Despite what is commonly believed, Chanukah is not the “Jewish Christmas.” Chanukah is the celebration and prophecy of the victory over the Beast and the Beast System.
Biblical history is prophecy. Ecc 1:9 That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun.
The historical account written in the Book of Maccabees concerning Antiochus “Epiphanes” IV (a shadow of Antichrist) is prophetic of what will happen in the End of Days:
Antiochus decreed a “New World Order”under Greek culture. 1 Macc 1:41-44 Antiochus wrote to his whole kingdom that all should be one people & that everyone should leave his laws (their national sovereignty) and agree to obey the commandment of the king.….he commanded that everyone give up their faith and the expression of that faith, and he decreed….
Don’t follow the Torah
Don’t circumcise your children
Don’t celebrate the Sabbath
Don’t observe the Festivals
Don’t consider the Temple, and don’t do anything with it
Eat pig! And whosoever would not do according to the commandment of the king, shall die.”
(Do any of the above “traditions” sound familiar?)
Mac 2:13 Then Mathias answered and spoke with a loud voice, 'though all the nations that are under the kings' dominion obey him and fall away, every one, from the religion of their fathers and give consent to his commandments- yet will I and my sons and my brothers walk in the Covenant of our fathers.
Those Jews who accepted the Greek mandates are called Hellenistic Jews, and are dubbed “wicked” or“ungodly” in 1 Mac 1:11 and 7:5.
Mac 2:21 God forbid that we should forsake the Torah and the Commandments. We will not hearken to the king's words to go from our religion, either on the right hand or the left.
The name “Maccabee” may come from the battle cry of the revolt which is a part of the Song of Moses seen in Ex 15:11 Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders?
In Hebrew it is: Me-cha mo-cha bah-ah-leem Adoni. From this the acronym is made: Mem, kaf, bet, yod and it became synonymous with this revolt. Makabee.)
Zech 14:2 shows us east Jerusalem being recognized as the capitol of a Palestinian state.
For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; The city shall be taken, The houses rifled, And the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.”
Very soon a Palestinian state will be declared (with East Jerusalem as its capitol) and called an “International City.” Since Palestine was granted “non-member state status” this week, we can already see east Jerusalem coming into the crosshairs now that Israel has announced it will resume its construction of homes in “Section E-1”that they had halted 5 years ago. We also see the nations (5 at the time of this posting) protesting Israel’s plans!
According to Zech 9:13 there will be a rebellion:
For I have bent Judah, My bow, Fitted the bow with Ephraim, And raised up your sons, O Zion, Against your sons, O Greece, And made you like the sword of a mighty man.
Those who are for the Covenant of their fathers will rebel, (just as the Maccabees did) declare their independence in the West Bank (Judea/Samaria) and call their capitol Jerusalem. The Bible calls that declaration of independence, “Zion.” So when Scripture talks about returning to Zion (“the mountains of Israel”) it becomes literal! This is Rev 12 covers: the birth of Zion and the immediate conflict between it and the Beast System.
Through the Maccabees, God has shown us how to get the victory over the Beast and Beast System: it is to stand for Yeshua (Jesus), to stand for the Torah, to stand for and believe in the Covenant made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and the other prophecies meaning… believe and understand that “I am going back to the Land of Israel! I will be led by a cloud during the day and a pillar of fire by night,” which is really Yeshua (Jesus) leading His people back to the Land, and through that will the Beast and the Beast System be defeated! Unfortunately, just as there were Jews willing to obey the wicked decrees of Antiochus, there will be believers who haven’t returned to the Torah (their Hebrew roots.) They don’t believe that the Messiah is coming to reunite the 12 tribes of Israel because they’re still stuck in Babylon. That’s why Rev 13 says there are believers who the Beast makes war with, and the beast overcomes them.
But, there is a group of people in Rev 15:2-3 who got the victory over the beast and his mark and over his image and over the number of his name, and they are seen singing the song of Moses and singing the song of the Lamb.” The song of Moses was the Maccabee battle cry!
Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders? This is the victory proclamation of those who are singing the song of Moses and the song of the Lamb! The Lamb Who will gather and unite His people from the nations where they are scattered.
In the meantime, He’s going to be waging war against the Beast and the Beast System, and it says in Joel 3:16 “The Lord also will roar from Zion, And utter His voice from Jerusalem; The heavens and earth will shake; But the Lord will be a shelter for His people, And the strength of the children of Israel.”
Zech 14:3 Then the Lord will go forth And fight against those nations, As He fought in the day of battle. This is a reference to Ex 15 when Pharaoh & his army drowned in the Red Sea. The Lord will fight against the nations like He fought at the Red Sea!
This rebellion of the Maccabees against Grecian rule is prophetic of the great battle in the Great Tribulation between those in the Beast system & those who stand for the Covenant & the Torah. Now look at the prophetic sequence in Ex 15:14-15:
"The people will hear and be afraid; Sorrow will take hold of the inhabitants of Philistia. Then the chiefs of Edom will be dismayed; The mighty men of Moab, Trembling will take hold of them; All the inhabitants of Canaan will melt away.
While this is speaking of the defeat of Pharaoh and his army, it is also talking about the defeat of Gog and Magog.
Ezek 39:25 Therefore thus says the Lord God: 'Now I will bring back the captives of Jacob, and have mercy on the whole house of Israel;
This verse follows the defeat of Gog and Magog. Compare it with the sequence in Ex 15:17 after the defeat of Pharaoh and his army:
You will bring them in and plant them In the mountain of Your inheritance, In the place, O Lord, which You have made For Your own dwelling, The sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established. "The Lord shall reign forever and ever." First we see the defeat of Gog/Magog, then the people coming back into the Land, and finally the Lord reigning forever and ever. This is Yeshua (Jesus) setting His feet down upon the Mount of Olives.
2 Thess 2:1-2 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him...
This gathering is the unification of the 12 tribes of Israel!
This places our “gathering” with the time Antichrist "opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God."
This is exactly what Antiochus did with the statue of Zeus/Jupiter: he placed it in the Temple, declaring Zeus/Jupiter to be god! By putting that image in there, he is saying that his god is greater than the God of Israel. This is the spirit of antichrist: putting some other god above the God of Israel.
The Maccabean revolt against Antiochus Epiphanies resulted in the rededication of the Temple.
1 Mc 4:39 Judah and his brethren and the whole congregation ordained that the days of the Dedication of the Altar should be kept in their season from year to year by the space of 8 days, from the 25th day of the month of Kislev and it is to be done with mirth and gladness.
Celebrating Hanukkah has everything to do with the days and times in which we live. This is a holiday that God wants us to celebrate and know its history because the lesson that we learn from Chanukah is the lesson that teaches us to how to obtain victory during the great Tribulation.
