    Salvation by faith alone/only?

If salvation is by faith and not works (Eph 2:8-9), then there indeed is a contradiction with James 2. Which is it: Faith with works, or faith whithout works? It can't be both... Two different salvations francisdesales???? Where did you come up with that, and what proof do you offer to...

    Salvation by faith alone/only?

vehement - zealous; ardent; impassioned: a vehement defense; vehement enthusiasm. strongly emotional; intense or passionate: vehement desire. marked by great energy or exertion; strenuous: Handy, a Christian who does not have this attitude isn't in keeping with the saints of the NT. Paul...

    Hello, curious Atheist here!

Hi skeptic. I am an ex-minister turned atheist. I have only been registered on this forum for a few days, so I'm fairly new as well. I'm kind of curious as to why I have been marked as 'non-christian' instead of 'registered member' though???:chin

    Salvation by faith alone/only?

The texts of scripture that really seem contradictory to me are Romans 4 and James 2. James says faith without works is dead, while Paul says faith without works saves...I actually had a public debate affirming that salvation is dependant upon works (not the law, but works of obedience). Looking...

    Salvation by faith alone/only?

Being a former minister in the Church of Christ, I taught vehemently that salvation was dependent upon obedience just as much as faith, and faith was not enough, by itself, to bring about salvation. The bible seems to teach both views, that salvation is by faith alone and that it is not. This...

what makes profane speech a sin?

I agree jasoncran about the hobbit being the more preferred tale. Frodo just popped in my mind after several minutes of trying to figure out a name for the forum. Thanks for your service. I'm also a veteran, returning from Iraq only 2 months ago. Christ_empowered, I think the verse you were...

what makes profane speech a sin?

I really appriciate the patience and genuine care that has been exemplified during this discussion. I'm impressed actually. Though I don't agree with the notion that cursing is sinful, I readily admit that it CAN and often times IS inappropriate. I 'swear' quite a bit, but what keeps me from...

what makes profane speech a sin?

Mike, you said I would be 'sinning'. Earlier, you said, and I quote: There is nothing intrinsically sinful or evil about man-made words. If I dont have bad intentions, and I speak words that are considered 'profane', then how am I sinning? I can say a 'curse word' without having anger or malice...

An atheist trying to convert christians

If Christians dont have an answer for why they believe what they believe, they are denying a fundamental precept set forth by God. In I Peter, the apostle states: But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the...

what makes profane speech a sin?

So my question is, why do MOST Christians condemn me for saying 'four letter words'? Even on this site, such speech is prohibited. Why? Can I not 'curse' since I have a good heart and mean nothing evil by it? :chin

    A terrific TRINITY Scripture passage

So im left still wondering...are there three gods or one god? Are there three persons (however you wish to define the word...i will stick with Webster's definition) or one person? If there are three persons who are all called 'god', then there are three gods...if there is one god, then is it...

what makes profane speech a sin?

Im sorry Mike. I thought you were serious about the 'word listing' portion of my initial post. :thumbsup I think I can agree with what you are saying. According to your stance/opinion on the matter, if i called somebody a 'coffee snorting funnel popper' (dont ask where i came up with that...

    A terrific TRINITY Scripture passage

francisdesales , you are not a trinitarian because the doctrine of the trinity teaches that there are three distinct persons in the 'godhead'. Your response depicts god as being a schizophrenic deity who names certain aspects of his being by personal names. If i named my body John, my mind Tom...

If a Jehovah's Witness knocks on your door

When I was a Christian, I would always keep some religious literature pertaining to my beliefs with in arms reach of the door and counter their efforts by offering THEM a bible study. I always made sure to address there most adoment doctrinal views. Needless to say, they weren't around for long! ;)
