I'm assuming it's in the off-chance that while I'm in the backyard mowing, a gaggle of single women walk by our fenced in yard and notice me without my ring and take a chance to hit on me?
That or she somehow thinks that my love for her can only be infused while the ring sits upon my finger...
I agree Farouk, in Jesus' telling of the prodigal son, the father places a ring on the sons finger. So it's not as if I'm anti ring period! That placement of the ring was the completion of the redemption story, placing the son back into his inheritance.
But if you're rocking the Mr T bling...
Dave,
I know many men who wear rings, whether they be class rings or just a simple ring for adornement. Typically I don't notice it unless they specifically point it out, or unless is ridiculously gawdy, and that is where I find the issue. Those who wear rings that mean something to them...
I guess some of my argument against would fall in line with Dave, although I'm not sure that the Bible takes much time to detail Male's wearing jewelry outside the aforementioned bondservant aspect.
I would also argue, that historically speaking, the majority of ear jewelry belonged to women...
I believe peircings, much like tattoos can become an addiction.
Once again, dealing with something which I have done in the past.... piercings in both ears...... since Christ, would not recommend.
Where does one define the line between acceptable and problematic? And for whom?
Interesting!
Either way, for solidarity or acceptance, I don't recommend one getting one for inclusion any more than I would recommend one for exclusion.
I don't disagree with the premise that a tattoo has been known to be a conversation starter, but I guess in my mind, what method's were used prior to resorting to tattoos?
I could think of a hundred 'conversation starters' that are less painful, and less permanent.
I believe it to be a poorly...
If one is intent to get one, which I hope that decision is prayerfully sought, then at the least, make it something that you can use to witness.
I am still not sold on why someone would want one? In my opinion, we have become a society seeking to become different, and unique. And in so doing we...
I agree, Prayer, Scripture, and total Surrender. These things help us to bridge the gap created by our sinfulness. I would also add, that often times, when I find myself neglecting these necessary things, I must ask God to help me change my desires, to create a yearning in my soul for Him and...
Excellent article, well thought out.
I keep thinking to myself, why would any sane man want more than one wife? I have my hands full with one, Lord knows I don't need another! :lol
I think, as you stated, in the OT it was more a necessity for the continued growth of humanity, whereas when...
Thanks Mike,
I guess any upbringing in any church inevitably leaves us with lingering preconceived notions. I've been asking the Lord to search me and get rid of those things I hold to because that's what I've always heard. So the thought processes into some of these topics is relativley new to...
Classik,
I cannot comment on the last bit for obvious reasons... :lol
In regards to the First part, I've determined to take Jonathan Edwards advice.
I am resolved never to do anything which I should be afraid to do if it were the last hour of my life. – Jonathan Edwards

Reba,
Same here. Pentecostal upbringing, so I know the strict limitations I had growing up. And I wrestled for a while after seeing people shedding tears of repentance and seemingly get saved, only to see them a week later smoking and talking about Jesus. It seemed to go against everything I...
Not sure I quite follow, but will respond with what I believe you were trying to relay. So forgive me if I'm completely off target:D
I don't know that it's necessarily re-creating a neo-theocracy? Nor do we imitate Jewish customs for the sake of tradition.
Regarding using 'one of many means'...
