The FCC's legal limit for mobile phones is 1.6 Watts of radiofrequency energy per kilogram, using a measure called Specific Absorption Rate (SAR).
The Environmental Working Group, which tracks SAR data for more than 1,300 cell phone and smartphone models, notes that several factors besides your handset affect your actual level of exposure. For example, distance from the cell tower plays a part: If the connection is weak, the handset needs to generate more radiation to make a connection to the tower. Network frequency and technology may play a part, and even the age of the user is an issue.
"Children and teenagers would likely get higher radiation dose than adults from the same phone," EWG spokesperson Leeann Brown said in an email.
Distance from the phone also matters. Using a headset or the speaker -- or texting instead of talking -- are inexpensive ways to cut down your exposure, EWG advises. The organization has posted 8 cell phone safety recommendations on its Web site.
The FCC also cautions that SAR alone doesn't tell the full cell phone safety story, since it measures maximum possible and not typical radiation levels.
There's a fairly wide range of SAR levels for cell phones tracked by EWG using data from vendor Web sites, last updated in December 2010, ranging from the LG Quantum's 0.35 W/kg to several Motorola models that come in just at 1.60 W/kg. Are there any proven cases of someone being brain-radiated?
I remember when TVs were still only BW and it was hyped in the news about possible adverse radiation levels being emitted from TV sets. (Yes, we really had news back then. We even had newsmen in helicopters! :o) Mom used to say "You're going to ruin your eyes if you watch too much TV!" Well, maybe that was her excuse to get us out of the house... dunno.
Anyway, when color TV came on the scene in greater popularity the hype was reignited claiming greater levels of radiation exposure.
The microwave oven got it's time in the spotlight too.

And all the scientific facts about these things were indisputable.

Oh yeah... Here's one. Lucille Ball's tooth fillings were in the news about picking up radio messages which led to the capture of a Japanese spy during WWII. :lol

Another...The light from fluorescent lights is a health risk. Not just the mercury but the light itself.

It was found that Castor Oil, a favorite oldie's cure-all, was also a health risk. They injected lab rats each with a quart of the stuff and they died. No more Castor Oil for me you betcha. :nono

There is so much risk in living it's a miracle I lived through adolescence much less survived my adult life. Someday I expect a report about how to die safely. :biglol

no, shoot ham radios and radar put out more radiation then the cell phone ever could. smoke detectors are also radiatioactive and yet the word is mum on them.

You know as much as I do that ham radios are a much lower frequency, and as such will not cook one's brains as readily as microwaves.

As for radiation from smoke detectors, they would increase rates of cancer if people placed them next to their ear all the time, but they are hanging on the ceiling whereas cell phones are close proximity. I never talk for lengths on them.

uh negative. the ham radios as in radios are microwave radiation. you can cook a man when you key that mike. i have heard of it done with a army issue handheld with a range of less then 3 miles. the guy keyed the mike and it burned his arm and he felt and thought nothing of it and four days later got real sick and near death and they saved him barely right arm apumpated.

we also have anti ied radios that can cook you innards and also high power am radios that can do the same. none of those have the range of a ham

My fault then. I'm getting older. I grew up in the days when ham radio was in the shortwave band. I never knew they also had those up in the Microwave band. Now mind you, you can even get an RF burn of a powerful transmitter in the lower frequencies when touching the antennae or close to it. I was thinking, however, Ham radios in the shortwave end at only a few watts, say about 50 or less. A cell phone I know is about 0.6 of a watt (supposedly).

the am one we had that almost lit me up had 1500 watts.

1500 watts! That's as powerful as a radio station! :lol Yeah, I guess no matter what frequency that would be a problem next to you.
 
The price we pay. No one is going to throw out their cellphone and swear them off. No one is going to rip out their car radio. No one is going to tell the police/fire/ambulance/army to ditch radios.

Just have to accept it.
