Chariots of Wat
What became clear pretty early on was that borders & nations were very fluid. When you think of it, the time period covered by the term "Ancient Near East" is huge, 2000 years or more! In the last 100 years the map of Europe has changed so much you would not recognise it and the same sort of changes were happening in the Ancient Near East. Mighty empires rose and fell, some with little trace. If we chose a specific date to set the Grand Campaign we would have to have ruled out many of the interesting nations that existed. E.g. The Sumerians were the earliest civilization, but they died out and the Akkadians came along. Later there were the Egyptians, Hittites, Assyrians, Babylonians etc, but these people were not all contemporary with each other, or if they were there was often one nation at the peak of its power while the other were fading. We've taken a little bit of liberty and taken all the mighty empires back to their seed points. From here we let the player re-write history.
