No Christian can "preserve" themselves!

1 Peter 1:5

who are kept by the Power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time

It seems you have the word "preserve", mixed up with the word "persevere".

Which teachings?
This is a 'good' question and might not be readily found now. It is not worth anyone's time to listen to a half hour or more from someone who was years ago shown to be a false teacher when they know it, not good to recommend either.
If someone has the time and resources, and maybe like the wayback machine, to find the exposes that were readily available ten years ago, that might be helpful
but I'm not sure anyone cares enough to find out the truth today.
We simply don't listen to mac or his followers (they carry on the same and maybe worse errors in teaching)
and they
might be the more recent "easier" source of false teachings, since they <seem> to post them regularly without discernment.

... he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. 1 John 5:18

this is not what the Original says, as Written by John. the oldest and better supported reading is

"We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He Who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him"

The difference is, here we have "αὐτόν" (him); and the KJV and some others read, "ἑαυτόν" (himself)

The reference is to Jesus Christ, as "The born of God", as we have in Matthew 1:20, " for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit". same Greek word is here "conceived", and "born" in 1 John 5:18.

The believer is protected by Jesus Christ, so that the devil, "ὁ πονηρὸς", which is masculine, does not "touch" the believer.

This is also very clear in 1 Peter 1:5, "who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time"

How can any believer, apart from the Power of the Lord, "keep himself"? It is an impossibility!

We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He Who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him"

Let's look at the context.

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.
We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.
And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. 1 John 5:14-21

  • We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.
whoever refers to Christians who are born again, so in the same verse he who has been born again continues to refer to Christians.

Are you trying to say that Jesus "keeps us" from committing sin?

Good question if good motive/ goal/ spirit.

Does a Shepherd keep His sheep safe ? Keep them from the enemy the devil and the enemy religion(s) ?

Jesus has given us His Spirit, to lead us in the way of righteousness.

Each born again Christian must choose to either live their life according to the Spirit or live their life according to the flesh.

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1

You sound surprised that it is Jesus Christ Who keeps us from sinning?

It is not "my version", but that which is the best attested for by the evidence

....It is not "my version", but that which is the best attested for by the evidence
Realizing all along, or learning newly, that "the evidence", like history, is rewritten dishonestly by the victors, or by anyone able to do so, as if to present their cause as the one most right.
What mankind promotes, is bad.
What God Gives Freely and Honestly, is Good for those who are in Christ Jesus, having given up evil ways, having given up sinning, having given up any bad religion.

He and his church are TOTALLY WRONG!
This is true without question and without doubt, from the evidence of their own words decades ago, and their ongoing bad teachings all along without repentance.

But it is not only this one bad teacher and bad church - there are many.

And there are many guests (hundreds each day) and how many members who may or may not post often,
who have been taken in by bad teachers and bad teachings, whether wittingly and willingly or unwittingly, is not the point here; simply it is quite commonly accepted and not corrected.

This is a huge issue for all churches ⛪️ and church leaders. Here locally a branch of a megachurch somehow has a dude accused of sex crime at other churches volunteering around children. Did not go well lots of litigation…

But it’s a fallen world we live in. In the case I mentioned for instance the dude had a clean official background check and he slipped through the cracks it seems. Who is liable? Or do we have to admit that no one can guarantee 110 percent safety?
Safety ? Guarantee ?
Rest in Christ Jesus and His Word, as written, as revealed by the Mighty Almighty Eternal One.
Daily seek refuge in Jesus, praying constantly. Nothing in this world is "safe".
Many of this world, in this world, are "quicksand", and promoting quicksand .

scripture tells us to minister to each other. Advanced degrees are not necessary. Faith humility and love are essential.

Search the Web and you will find the truth
It is more and more and more difficult to find truth anywhere.
The fake websites, and
the legitimate websites with false information,
are multiplying beyond being able to count.

The true information in every area is more and more and more censored,
and NOT getting easier to find. Sometimes not even available anymore.
