Do you know Psalm 51? I love it. Seems to be the most sincere prayer ever recorded in the bible. I pray it at times...relevant ones

Yes, it's a very humbling and wholesome Psalm to read, to internalize and to live out, isn't it?

Blessings.

Yea. I see a broken and contrite heart.

Classik: Yes, and it's more likely to be a continuous thing to experience a broken and a contrite heart if we daily and prayerfully meditate in the Word, right?

Blessings.

¶ [[To the Chief Musician. A Melody of David. When Nathan the Prophet had come to him,
after he had gone in unto Bath-sheba.]]

Ps 51:1(ESV) Be favorable unto me, O God, according to
thy lovingkindness,
And, in the >multitude of thy compassions<
blot out my transgressions;

Ps 51:2(ESV) Thoroughly´ wash me from mine iniquity,
And, >from my sin< make me pure;

Ps 51:3(ESV) For, >my transgressions< do |I| acknowledge,
And, |my sin| is before me continually:

Ps 51:4(ESV) >Against thee—against thee alone<
have I sinned,
And >wickedness—in thine eyes<
have I done,—
That thou mayest,
Be justified when thou speakest,—[a]
Be clear when thou judgest.

Ps 51:5(ESV) Lo! >in iniquity< was I brought forth,
And >in sin< did my mother´ conceive me.

Ps 51:6(ESV) Lo! >faithfulness< hast thou desired in the
inward parts,
Yea, >in the hidden part< wilt thou cause me
to know, |wisdom|.

Ps 51:7(ESV) ¶ Wilt thou cleanse me from sin with hyssop,
That I may be pure?
Wilt thou wash me,
That I may be whiter, |than snow|?

Ps 51:8(ESV) Wilt thou cause me to hear[c] joy and gladness?
The bones thou hast crushed |would exult|.

Ps 51:9(ESV) Hide thy face from my sins,—
And >all mine iniquities< blot out;

Ps 51:10(ESV) >A pure heart< create for me, O God,
And >a steadfast spirit< renew within me.

Ps 51:11(ESV) Do not cast me away from thy presence,
And >thy Holy Spirit< do not take from me:

PS 51:12(ESV) Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation,
And, >with a willing[d] spirit< wilt thou uphold me:—
Ps 51:13(ESV) I would teach transgressors thy ways,
And |sinners| >unto thee< should return.

Ps 51:14(ESV) ¶ Rescue me from shed-blood, O God,
the God of my salvation,
My tongue should shout thy righteousness;

Ps 51:15(ESV) O My Lord! >my lips< wilt thou open,
And |my mouth| shall declare thy praise.

Ps 51:16(ESV) For thou wilt not desire sacrifice—that I should
give it,
|Ascending-offering| will not please:

Ps 51:17(ESV) |The sacrifices of God| are a spirit that is
broken,—
>A heart—broken and crushed< O God, thou
wilt not despise.

Ps 51:18(ESV) Do good, in thy good-pleasure, unto Zion,
Wilt thou build the walls of Jerusalem!

Ps 51:19(ESV) |Then| shalt thou desire the sacrifices of
righteousness,
Ascending-sacrifice and whole burnt-offering,
|Then| shall ascend upon thine altar, young bulls.

SPARROW'S NOTE: I very much enjoy the Rotherham Emphasized Version because it is very visual and easily shows the emphasis that is found in the sound of the Hebrew. Reading this along with the ESV helps me to hear the sound of the 'Other-ness' that is so often missed while reading familiar things.

Yes, it's good to go through a passage, phrase by phrase like this.

Blessings.

This is my favorite Psalm. Perhaps because it's a cry from the depths of grief and guilt, were I've found myself before.

We know that David was a man "after God's own heart" and "righteous before God", yet he was as sinful as any other man. How could he be a man "after God's own heart?" Because he truly loved and trusted God. He loved God's law and demonstrated his faith every day. He was a man just like us, for whom sin came easily, but, despite his sin, he always loved God, always returned to God with a contrite heart.

When Nathan the Prophet had come to him,
after he had gone in unto Bath-sheba.

This song, this Psalm, is what the Holy Spirit worked into him right at the time of his greatest need.

Ever wonder what was going on in your life? Why the turmoil? Has the flesh of your heart been ground up? It could be that a seed need be planted. We know well how that is done. The earth is torn open, sometimes violently --and then the precious seed is planted. David watched what was done in him. The Holy Spirit showed him. He then spoke and we now may hear.
