This prophecy on Tyre is well known to both believers and those that are sceptical of biblical prophecy.
What is most commented on is the apparent non-fulfillment of this prophecy.

Yet, if we were to use it as prophetic precedent, we would see that it's later fulfillment through Babylon the great is not a contradiction, but the completion of prophetic process.

Another aspect to this situation is the identification of Babylon itself as it did not yet exist in the time of Isaiah.
Isaiah who as a member of the court would have been aware only of the commercial might of neighboring Tyre, and on the basis of this observation was able to see into the future where another unnamed empire would be present in the last days.

The point to be made is that it doesn't matter if Tyre wasn't destroyed, what matters is that God set a precedent for the end times that through Babylon will be finally fulfilled.

Understanding what Isaiah saw is key to understanding the prophecy.
Understanding prophetic process is key to understanding Isaiah and all other prophetic writers to include Revelations.
