I like what is said here: Christians should use them to celebrate the life that God gave us and praise our Creator for it—something secularists would have no reason to do.

Every breath we breathe is a gift from God as we never know when the last one will come. In between those breaths it should always be about Christ being in our life who gave us the greatest birthday gift of His birth. When we are Spiritually made new again that is when day one in Christ begins and we need to give Him all our praise and glory in His greatest gift of love.
