Is it because we fear God or is it because we love God (John 14:15)? If we do it out of fear, it means that we are trying to save our self from punishment? In other words, it is out of self interest. On the other hand if it is out of love, then it is pure, holy and selfless. Which of the two reasons will bring us peace?

we're supposed to do it out of Love of God. Which at the same time is the "fear of the Lord" which to me means the fear of doing something against God that would hurt Him i.e. sin. Kind of like with our friends, sometimes we wont do something even if we want to because it would hurt them. The same kind of principle just magnified since we are to Love Him the most. Love brings peace. and Christ promises us peace if we seek Him with all of our heart. This doesn't happen over night. the more we trust the more peace we'll have no mater what is going on

But fear of hell is ok to start with and God can work with that and turn it into Love if we let Him
