Do Preterists say that the book of Revelation already happened?

tob

*edit: forgot to ask; do they believe Matthew 24 has already been fulfilled?
IMHO I think this is an important question. Can someone answer it? Where do the preterists believe we are right now?Are we in the Millennium? Is there no Millennium? When does Jesus come back? What happens?

Thanks reba, what do preterists present as an event/events that has/have already happened, just one example then we can go from there..

Thanks..

:thumbsup That is what is interesting about it.Yes,it is sometimes confusing

No one denies that Revelation contains amazing and sometimes confusing visions. No one denies that Revelation describes many things figuratively—that’s the nature of apocalyptic literature. However, to arbitrarily deny the literal nature of select portions of Revelation is to destroy the basis of interpretinganyof the book literally. If the plagues, witnesses, beast, false prophet, millennial kingdom, etc., are all allegorical, then on what basis do we claim that the second coming of Christ and the new earth are literal? That is the failure of preterism—it leaves the interpretation of Revelation to the opinions of the interpreter.

I hate to burst your bubble, Kathi, but that is exactly what every single person you or I have ever read of or heard speak about Revelation does. I haven't, and you know you haven't ever heard one person try to explain Revelation who wasn't putting either THEIR OWN spin on it. or just parroting someone else's opinion.

It is a rare person, indeed, who is able to admit that they really don't know, and are giving it their best guess. Not many can be that honest. Religious egos are some of the most bloated things on this planet. Some can't admit not knowing even one little thing..... let alone 98% of a book.

About all we can know for certain is that John CLAIMS to have written the book, and that he was probably on Patmos at "some" time.

Talk about PRIDE.... and we're too proud to even admit THAT.

Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Act 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
Act 2:15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
Act 2:16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

Gen 37:9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.

Gen_17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

1Ki 21:23 And of Jezebel also spake the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.

Gen 41:15 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.
Gen 41:16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

Is this considered preterism?

:confusedWhat does that mean to you as a preterist believer?

The term preterism comes from the Latin praeter, meaning “past.”

I believe every Christian has preteristic views of some part of scripture..

Where in the Bible would that be?

Not knowing the can of worms that would open years ago in a chat i got yelled at twice ... Once i was told you are one of those ... i quoted scripture and got told i was a calvanist i did not know what a calvinist was... ..

then later on i said i believed the words the lords of Jesus saying 'this generation' the yelling started again PRETERIST

I am not studied on either account...

What Reba showed you were many prophesies that were made that have come to pass already (in the PAST [praeter] ), thereby showing you that even you believe in some things prophesied, that happened in the past.

And that was the challenge made to her statement that we ALL have a Preterist view of parts of the Bible..... simply meaning: we all see certain things as having already happened.

Do you still await the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, or do you see that as already in the past.

When the prophets declared the rise of Babylon as God's servant, and then the subsequent judgement at the hand of the Medio-Persian empire. Then that nation was judged with the rise of the Greek empire, and the same with the Roman empire.
Do you see those things as yet future? If not and you do recognized that this is accepted and considered as biblical history, then as reba implied, you as with most Christians do hold some preteristic views.

There was a time (in my religious days) when I wouldn't even TALK with certain individuals in my own church because they saw things as having happened that I thought were still to come. We "TRUE" Christians, shamefully, got together and gossiped about "THOSE" Preterists.
