As mentioned in my introduction and my profile, I have had quite a long spiritual journey and two of the religions I experimented with were Jehovah's Witnesses & Mormonism.

During my stay at Kingdom Hall and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I felt so restriction & judgement.
Mormons can't drink tea or coffee and if they feel any sexual urges they were what is called "Magic Underwear", it didn't work because there was a couple who I used to be close friends with and they performed sexual acts before their marriage.
Another thing that bothered me about Mormonism is the polygamy.
Jehovah's Witnesses weren't too bad but their denial in blood transfusions is a little over the top, I cannot donate blood for physical health problems but I would donate in a heart beat if I could.
Also, their "gospel" songs didn't sound too gospel to me, they seemed to mentioning going door-to-door a lot in their "Hymns".

I think staying an Anglican Christian and attending the St. Mary Magdalene church of England and only admiring Buddhist principles seems like a better deal to me.
I may find Buddhists and the Dalai Lama inspirational and I may practice yoga and meditation and collect anything oriental or zen in my home but my heart belongs to God and his son, our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ.

Mormons should get rid of their three extra books. JW's actually have a decent translation. I recommend the 60's version. They shouldn't change father to Jehovah in the New Testament.

I agree, I think Mormons are far worse than JWs. At least they let you drink tea or coffee and don't make you wear "magic underwear" nor practice polygamy.

Like you, I think we should continue to address our creator as our Father.

The only things I disagree with when it comes to JWs is their gospel songs encouraging harassment to convert, the denial of blood transfusions and changing the name of our father in heaven but otherwise, I think they're easygoing, I wish they'd cool it down on the door knocking though :rofl2

Buddhists/Hindu ? You keep coming back until you get it right ? :lol
I think Taze Russel is a liar who give many false prophecies that never come true and many unbiblical false doctrines
JW's were banned in Russia and I think in the june 15 2002 Watch Tower they began allowing blood parts for transfusion sorry blood is blood and they allowed 1000's to die before they ''heard from their god at magazine headquarters''

I think Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon stole a fiction novel from Solomon Spalding ''Manuscript Found'' from Lambdins print shopand created a man made religion out of it and false doctrine on top of false doctrine ever since JS was a witch
Bring'm Young U was the last college to allow black folks 76-78 maybe ?
Jimmy Carter advised Gordon Hinkley that BYU would lose tax exempt status if they didn't integrate black athletes and students and within 2 weeks President Hinkley received a divine revelation from God it was now OK to accept black students .. :lol

Oh, and who said Gods name is Jehovah I thought God said to say he is the great ''I Am'' and that JHVH was unpronounceable

Buddhism may have originated from Hinduism but their principles and beliefs are different.
Yes yoga and meditation originated in India but I find Buddhism more fascinating as it's very relaxing.

That is the problem with JWs, they deny any blood donations or transfusions and people die.

I kinda gathered that Joseph Smith was a liar, okay yes scaring people into religion is wrong but forcing people to live a different lifestyle is wrong too.

It's weird how Nephi created a boat, I always remembered Noah creating boat (well Ark) and is suspicious that Joseph Smith didn't want anyone to see the golden plates with the so-called scriptures and only he could see them. In my opinion, they didn't exist!

Not me, the so-called Witnesses claim that God is called "Jehovah". I just only remember God being "God" or "Father in Heaven", nothing else, nothing more.

All the locations, animals, Indian names, indian mounds, story lines in the BOM were stolen from failed writer Solomon Spalding's manuscript and the story took place between two of the great lakes according to witnesses and signed affidavits

I worked with Mormons and they were good folks and good workers but they wouldn't volunteer any info out of the church but if you pinned them down on it they would usually admits it

It's not like I am a Hindu or Buddhist in general. Either way, the principals, the yoga and meditation is just to help me stay calm and better myself, I'm not converting to any other religions. As far the oriental stuff, I've always been interested in Chinese or Japanese furniture, artwork and sculptures since I was a teenager. :nod
I blame my Anime & manga addiction for lol (and don't worry, I know that Anime/manga is from Japan only and not China). :thumb

All I can say is the LDS church members in London were very judgemental, rude, disrespectful and strict on me.

I can understand why you'd say their nice people, when I first attended the church, I felt like I had a second family with the whole sports and cooking activities and the gospel lessons, it was fun but then I found the members sexist and hypocritical.

I was told my fashion was against their word of wisdom, I grew up as a skater punk, it didn't change my faith in God.
And making women wear skirts even if they don't like it, only the men can wear the suits.

I was told off just for flirting yet 2 people I knew from the church engaged in sexual activity, quite graphic, no penetration or full intercourse but still sexual physical contact together, that just proves the "magic underwear" is a lie.
All I did was compliment and teased a single female church member and exchanged numbers but I did not do anything physical.

Also, Joseph Smith isn't a prophet, in the Holy Bible his name is not mentioned and there is more then 1 prophet in the Holy Bible whereas Mormons believe there's only one which they believe is Thomas S. Monson.

Awesome! I'm a former Karate student.
Although Bruce Lee is my number celebrity idol and he practiced Jeet Kune Doo, his film Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story and the video game Tekken 2 on the first PlayStation console both inspired me to start Karate classes when I was 11 or 12.

I no longer practice karate, I know practice boxing (general old fashion beat the bag boxing) because of an old ankle injury.

Ha, there's lots of folks like that but the Mormons don't want to lose their investments if you know what I mean ..

Lol, oh yeah the "offerings" although they don't really go to anything.

I always give money a proper genuine Christian churches because I know that the members at the church always help out and perform charities.
I was always given food when I was broke by churches and church members, I was even given actual money to help out with bills so I wouldn't lose my electricity or heating.

From what I could tell, both JWs and Mormans are nice people and hold strong family roots. I also like the idea of door to door ministry and missionary ministry as a larger part of our faith. It seems like to me the push to keep our faith private goes against God's calling to teach the nation's and spread the word.

That said, I don't know enough of their actual beliefs to give a real critism (positive or negitive), but there are aspects I don't really trust. (Mostly small things I guess, but enough to not look further).

Well the Mormons I've known wanted me to dress like a history teacher, they didn't like me wearing skater punk clothes or having long hair, I wasn't allowed to drink tea or coffee. I got told off for flirting yet an unmarried couple did physical sexual stuff together.

My experiences are brief, and I didn't look further into their communities or their beliefs. You sound like you've had more experience with them then I've had.

most are incredibly nice people, as long as they don't talk about religion.
they have been radicalised in a cult you know, so no use trying to appeal to their commonsense

Mormons and JWs have significant errors in their theology and are considered cults, not Christians.

As for Buddhism and Christianity, they do not mix.

No, it isn't a "decent translation". The NWT has words inserted into the NT text which do not appear in the Greek, completely changing the meaning of the text. Of course, they do it to deny the deity of Jesus but in so doing, create significant contradictions in the NWT.

"Small things"? Hardly! There are incredibly huge things; irreconcilable differences with orthodox Christian belief.
