Denominations are essential in Christianity.
Imagine if the roman catholic church had it's way and they were the only church
There would be murder in the pews every Sunday morning

Denominations allow us to freely express our Christianity.
Just as humans need to express who they are as well.

Roman catholics are involved with being a nation, military, they are international diplomats, they own real estate around the world.
I was told there isn't a motel in Italy that doesn't use vatican soap, towels, spreads, shampoo and everything else.
They are all vatican companies.

Roman catholics are everything that the world is.

But then came all the denominations.
Some good, some not so good, but they keep coming, more and more denominations as more and more people express their Christianity.
We need denominations.
We should not bash denominations as long as they do not commit to the ecumenical council.

So you're saying the CC would be a Monopoly.
When only the CC existed they were able to do whatever they wanted.
For instance, have people pay for indulgences.
Normal people outside of the clergy knew nothing of God's word and could not complain.

But I also don't like the arguing that goes on between us. Did Jesus intend to have so many different churches? He meant for us to be United.

Yeah, when he returns
Only God can do what God can do

nothing wrong with denoms they have their place. problem is many worship the denominational name in truth and spirit ... i call it name tag religion .. i have seen some southern baptist mention gen baptist or Pentecostal ..it was like saying a cuss word.. to much emphases is place on the name over the door. instead of the name on the heart
Hebrews 9:28 21st Century King James Version (KJ21)
28 so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto those who look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin, unto salvation. the name tag will either fall off going up or burn off going down.... sometimes it reminds me of the debate over Apollos and Paul see each demon has a work to do. we work together 1 plants 1 waters God gives the increase

Why would you say such a nasty thing? Is hating people an essential part of your religion?
Protestants murdered as man Catholics as Catholics did Protestants.
The Protestant Reformation was a disaster for everyone.
Denominations allow us to freely express our Christianity.
What does "freely express our Christianity" mean? Do your own thing?
How about do JESUS' thing and "express" your CHristianity the way the apostles taught it.
Denominations are the result of people being arrogant enough to make up their own versions of Christianity and discard the teaching of Jesus' apostles for their own personal views and tastes.
Just as humans need to express who they are as well.
It's not who WE are that needs to be "expressed." It's who JESUS IS that needs to be expressed by our behavior.

It would be a good thing to quit listening to and spreading the gossip you hear about the RCC.
Delighting in evil is not a Christian practice.
And, please, burn those Jack Chick comics. They're demonic.

Di your mother never tell you that if you can't say something nice the don't say anything at all?

That's really good advice.

You don't do your soul any good reciting lies, slander and gossip about other people.

But if I consider them truth, how can that be?
Are we not just expressing ourselves?

The only time I remember my mother tell me to shut up was in the catholic church when I questioned why St. Anthony was holding the baby Jesus?
She hushed me up and rushed me out of the church.
She told me not to ask those questions, just pray to St. Anthony.

Unfortunately, that is how much of our teaching is handled. In another forum bearing the same name as this one... except that it ends in "com" instead of "net", you are actually told to "Get out of this forum!" by the mods if you dare to question any of their rather peculiar habits.

Jim,
I respect your words a lot. And I really like you. But, there is much to be said for "expressing your Christianity" as Al states.
In my denomination, The Vineyard Fellowship, we believe strongly in, and openly practice, physical healing. Yet, quite frankly, many other denominations would drag us to the front door and kick us out on the curb if we ever dared to do in "their" building, what is a common practice at most Vineyards every week.

Latin root word for religion is bondage, which is different then that of Gods pure religion of James 1:27, but that of following tradition and the doctrine of a mans church, not Gods true Church. The Latin root word is religare as re is a prefix that means return and ligare means to bind. Religion tells you what you can and cannot do and becomes socially acceptable by mans interpretations, traditions and doctrines. Religion is what nailed Christ to the cross because the word of God (Bible) is not socially acceptable to society, if it were then Christ would have died in vain. God is not about mans religion, nor does he recognize organized religion. God is about a personal relationship with you and His son Jesus Christ. The first Church started with the Disciples in Jerusalem gathering with others as being one body in Christ as they met in their homes behind locked doors in fear the Sanhedrin would find them and send Roman guards to capture them and put them in prison and possibly kill them like they did with Jesus.

John 1:1 in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 the same was in the beginning with God.
John 1:3 all things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
John 1:4 in him was life; and the life was the light of men.
John 1:5 and the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Romans 10:10 for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

If it bothers you so much, why do you listen?
You bad mouth me and you bad mouth Jack Chick and you tell me your mother is better than my mother.
The real question is, "why do I bother to listen to you?

Brother, I think you should perhaps realize you have raised the ire of one who is a member of the Catholic church. Perhaps just let it go and move forward. Anger for anger is going to get you nowhere.

As to the OP, I would counter with, what denomination did Emmanuel sustain with his teachings ?
Denominational association far too often appears as if allegiance is to that denomination that sustains the gospel with its own identity and methodologies. All denominations were the brain-child of men.

I believe holding to the teachings of Christ is what God intended. Because as you can read denominational loyalty puts denomination first and the truth of Christ far removed.

Hi Jim, I agree with much of what you posted. I found this Web History of the Reformation interesting.
Reformation Papacy - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reformation_Papacy
The institution of the papacy underwent attacks by many Protestant reformers, including Martin Luther (Pope Leo X planned the initial church reaction against Luther until his death in 1521), John Calvin, Thomas Cranmer and John Knox identified the Roman Papacy as the Antichrist.
  • History
The institution of the papacy underwent attacks by many...
  • Aftermath
The pontificate of Pope Sixtus V opened up the final stage...

You know something, I think women belong in the kitchen.

This thread appears to be getting out of hand with the RCC bashing as well as the personal attacks. Locking down for moderator review.
