I know what you mean but I can’t help but think that celebrating a gay marriage in a church is inappropriate, announcing it on Easter Sunday, the day we celebrate Jesus's victory over sin is double inappropriate. Like you I don’t want to argue on Easter Sunday, I just think it’s wrong. Sorry.

Me too. Thanks guys. After all Jesus wouldn't want us to fight, especially on a day that we're supposed to be celebrating His resurrection and victory over sin and even death itself.

But yes I do agree with the fact that it's wrong. I never said that. I just meant that we should try to show some respect and self-control for the sake of the Lord.

Are you saying that women can't preach the gospel? Because I know for a fact that isn't true. The lady at my grandmother's church (the one that she used to attend while she still lived in Ohio) was magnificent!

Being a preacher is entirely different from being a Pastor. Or at least it can be. I think the Pastor should not be the only one to preach or teach, ever. In fact it could be a rare event in a large Church; the head Pastor has plenty of other stuff to do.

I thought that a pastor and preacher was the same thing.

it is but it isn't some preachers are called to evangelize a church is only as good as its pastor and a pastor is only as good as his congregation will let him be... my last church few wanted to run the church a dictate to me what i should do and not do ..

to many expect the pastor to teach class and preach . one church i had i was teaching s.s class leading singing and preaching ..lots of pressure

This is why I made my point. A common phrase in Churches is "five-fold ministry," referring to Ephesians 4:11 that spells out Apostles, (1) Prophets, (2) evangelists, (3) pastors, (4) and teachers. (5)

They then say pastor/teacher, which would mean a FOUR-fold ministry, not five.

Pastors have the chief duty of being sure that "everything is done decently and in order." I think a lot of the problems we've all seen and heard about could've been avoided if the whole Church were more willing to use the FIVE-fold ministry, the way our Savior told us He wanted to build His Church. Bad idea in a sermon? The teacher has a proof-reader and overseer, to filter that out. The flock gets fed. It's a good safety net, and a perfectly good Pastor (or anyone else teaching) might inadvertantly say something not quite right that could be problematic.

All that to say that pastor and teacher are separate offices. In a small Church the same person might actually need to serve both roles much of the time. It's better for everyone involved to delegate at least some teaching to someone else ASAP.

Another thing a Pastor needs is a prayer covering from their congratulation!

I'm sorry, but I still don't quite understand.

the problem with churches today, imho, is not enough workers to assist the pastor to do what his vision from God is for the church. they are often busy cleaning the church, counselling and also teaching!

i see this very much in church i attend dont get me wrong we have some great folks some rock solid .but most only show up Sunday morning

most teachers don't have to pastor(guide and direct) a flock like a pastor.counsel and correct like they do
no but i did i had no leaders i the Office of the Deacon is to serve tables to check on the flock while the pastor studies and does ministry work. but instead the deacon office is used to boss of the church boss of the Treasury and Boss the pastor . i have come to come dislike the office of the deacon. i have seen them cause more problem for the pastor... a major Pain in the backside
