My post was a direct response to this statement from you.

I quoted scriptures, where Paul uses the word God to refer to Jesus Christ.

  • our great God and Savior Jesus Christ
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, Titus 2:11-13

again

  • God was manifested in the flesh
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh... 1 Timothy 3:16

Peter also -

We're talking about 1 Cor. 1 You're just muddying the waters

The RSV says He was manifested in the flesh. 1 Tim. 3:16 The He in this case is the Son. Also if you read Peter's letter, he says, 'May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord'. 2 Pet. 1:2 In the foot notes, 2 Pet. 1:1 may be read 'of our God and the Savior Jesus Christ.' Likewise Titus 2:11-13 can be read, 'of the Great God and our Savior'.

Please don’t say such things about me.

I am participating in this thread just like you.

I used scripture to validate my perspective.

You made a statement and gave you some scriptures to consider.

Thanks JLB

The RSV says He was manifested in the flesh. 1 Tim. 3:16

Yes God was indeed manifested in the flesh.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1,14

JLB

Also if you read Peter's letter, he says, 'May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord'.

Yes, God in that verse refers to God the Father.

Which, I might add, shows us we need to rightly divide each verse in context to understand if God refers to the Son or the Father.

JLB

Likewise Titus 2:11-13 can be read, 'of the Great God and our Savior'.

I don’t see how adding “our” changes anything. Unless you believe God the Father will also appear with His Son.

glorious appearing of our great God and (our) Savior Jesus Christ,

I take it the Son of God was manifested in the flesh.

1 Cor. 1 vs. 3 Paul says God our Father. He doesn't have to keep repeating our Father whenever he says God. It's understood when he says God he means our Father. So when he says, 'so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus' vs. 29,30, he means the Father is the source of your life in Christ Jesus. The Father made Christ Jesus our wisdom.

Mark,

Are you convinced the Bible teaches Jesus is God?

In 2 Cor 5:10 (NIV), it states: 'For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for 1his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad'.

Here Christ is performing the act of Deity, 'judgment'.

Do you support the Bible as teaching the Holy Spirit is God?

The Holy Spirit has the attributes of Deity. He is eternal (Heb 9:14), omniscient [knowing everything] (1 Cor 2:10-11; Jn 14:26; 16:12-13), omnipotent (Lk 1:35), and omnipresent (Ps 139:7-10).

10 nor to pilfer, but to show entire and true fidelity, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

11 For the grace of God has appeared for the salvation of all men, 12 training us to renounce irreligion and worldly passions, and to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this world, 13 awaiting our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior[a] Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all iniquity and to purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds. Titus 2:10-14

God (the Father) is the one who saves through faith in Jesus Christ. When Paul says 'the grace of God has appeared' he is referring to the Lord. So when he says the appearing of the glory of our great God (our Father) he is again referring to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Titus 1:4
To Titus, my true child in a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

Again it's God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior as it is in most of the apostles' letters.

2 Thessalonians 1:2
Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Timothy 1:2
To Timothy, my true child in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
2 Timothy 1:2
To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
Philemon 1:3
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:2
chosen and destined by God the Father and sanctified by the Spirit for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.
2 Peter 1:2
May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
2 John 1:3
Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father’s Son, in truth and love.

I take it the Son of God was manifested in the flesh.
God was manifest in the flesh as the son of man! "The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" (which means "God with us"). Matthew 1:23

John 1:1, 14 (RSV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . [14] And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father.

John 10:30 I and the Father are one.

Colossians 1:19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,

Amen brother JLB. It's also very important for us to understand that we worship and follow a perfectly Holy (PURE) God who asks us, his followers, to be holy and perfect as He is, and walk in holiness ( at least diligently try our utmost)
Matthew 5:48

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Leviticus 20:26
You are to be holy to me because I, the LORD, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.

1 Peter 1: 14-16

As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."

Jesus said,
John 4:23
But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him.

1 Peter 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

You know God the Father raised him from the dead? The apostle Peter knows. That's why he said blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Peter did not change his mind in his second letter. He said the righteousness of God. But he didn't say the righteousness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. But this goes without saying. Should he have said, and the righteousness of our Lord? He would be repeating himself. But there will always be people who will twist his words.

Galatians 1:1
Paul an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him
from the dead—
Colossians 2:12
and you were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.
1 Peter 1:21
Through him you have confidence in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

Jesus said,
John 4:23

How does this change these scriptures that show Jesus is our God and Savior?

Because our Father made Jesus is our Lord and Savior and no one seems to give the Father glory. Jesus taught us to pray to the Father, to ask the Father in his name. No one can come to Jesus unless it is granted him by the Father. The Father put all things under his feet.

And God the Father anointed him God. So I'm not arguing that Jesus isn't our God. He reflects the glory of God, and bears the very stamp of his nature. Heb. 1:3 I'm just saying the Father is the only true God.

But what does this have to do with 1 Cor. 1?

awaiting our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

Jesus Christ reflected the glory of God. So we are awaiting his appearing.

The above statement is contradictory. First, you agree that Jesus is "our God." Then, you say that the "Father is the only true God." The second statement denies Jesus' deity and basically says that He is not a true god.

I feel that you need to comet to grips with this. Is Jesus God or is He just a god? There is only one true and living God.

Because our Father made Jesus is our Lord and Savior and no one seems to give the Father glory.

If Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God the Father, the Lord God, creator of heaven and earth, our a God and Savior is glorious, then how much more so is the Father, who is greater.

Which is why Paul said -

  • every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11

It glorifies the Father when we honor the Son.

For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

  • that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father
