I use Ubuntu and I have an excel spreadsheet I created and save in excel. when I change something and save it, it always says page not responding. if I open and recover the document it makes the change. any Ideas what going on

Well Im not really using excel in linux it just allows me to save as ods (linux) or excel (ms)
i made the excel spread sheet in (ms) and moved it to Ubuntu computer then saved it as excel. had no problem at that moving it. at that time I was using 14.04 ubuntu I have since upgraded to 16.04 and not if I edit a cell it says page not responding and saves withouut change I made, later a I can open it and do recover and it makes the change I wanted. This just sounds strange I get what I want but it seems it isnt right

You're right, that is strange and not to be expected, even though you get what you want in the end.
I suspect it's in the extension you are using to save it. I would stick with the .xls or .xlsx extension since it was made and saved in that originally. Don't use the .ods extension. Not sure if you can go back to the .xls extension, though. You may have to go back to an earlier document still in excel saved as .xls, or start completely over in the .xls extension.

I don't work with spreadsheets anymore but that is a weird, nasty, habit. I don't know if you're using Open Office or Libre Office but it sounds like you need to go to their site and file a bug report.

I may have to live with it I have over a 900 rows and 4 cells in each row in the sheet, I Can not redo it.
I may have overworked the data in the sheet.

I would make another test.xls sheet, open it and save it in Libre Office with the .ods extension, and then see if you get the same behavior.

If it turns out that the problem lies in you having saved an .xls (or .xlsx) file as an .ods then you can still take your .ods file, convert it to a .csv, open it in Excel and resave it this time with the .xls/.xlsx extension. Then use it in Libre Office as before but this time do not convert it to .ods. I think you can continue to save it as .xls/.xlsx in Libre Office(?)

Roro, have you tried the forums for whatever word processor you're using? Likewise, have you tried Ubuntu forumsw? They will need to know what word processor you are using, though.

I just picked a random thread that talks about computer problems because I have a big one even though this thread was started two years before I signed up. Anyways, my laptop has been driving me absolutely NUTS lately! :wall First of all I kept getting a blue screen after I visited this website (twice it happened right on here) that said my computer seemed to be experiencing problems and they would let me know more once they received the error information and that it would automatically restart afterwards. (Which it never did and I had to shut it down manually afterwards.)

And now it keeps freezing up whenever I walk away from it for a period of time. :angry3 Does anybody know what the problem is and if so would you know how to fix it? Besides calling a computer exorcist that is.

Blue screens are always related to hardware.
You either have a piece of hardware failing or you have a corrupt software driver.

A software driver is the software that talks to the hardware.

Check your event viewer and look for the error and let me know what it sayd

In your search bar, type: event viewer and then hit enter.
Go to the 'Windows Logs' folder and click on it.
Go to the 'System' folder and click on it.
Scroll down till you see the red circle with the ! in it. those are your errors.
Find the red error that occurred at the time of your blue screen.

In other words, next time your computer blue screens, take note of the time. Then go to the Event Viewer and find the error.

Sometimes you can look in the "Application" file as well. But for a blue screen it will probably be in the system file.
