If you asked me I would just say I don't know. I think I lean more towards the old earth side because I've heard somewhere that there are stars that are millions of years old so I feel like earth would be somewhat close behind that. What do you guys think?

I don't think about it. What does it matter anyway aside from just satisfying our own curiosity?

I think the biblical chronology and timeline was, creation, then about 2000 years until the flood, then another 2000 years until Jesus came as a man. Then about another 2000 years until now, the present day.

So with 1000 years being as one day with the Lord, then we could rightly say that we are early in the morning on the seventh day since creation...A day of rest. We could also say, that we are early in the morning of the 3rd day since Jesus died on the cross.

Biblically speaking, what happened early in the morning of the 3rd day? What happened on the 7th day?

There is a reference in Luke that may shine some light on this.

Luke 4:16
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.../(KJV)

This is talking about Jesus. His custom was to go to the synagogue and teach on the Sabbath. So if this is the early morning of the 7th day for us...and we are the temple of the Lord now...then we are all prime for a visitation from the Lord for Him to teach us.

Plus, in the end times, knowledge will be increased is what scripture says...

That's what's going on right now. No wonder I am seeing and hearing so many testimonies of people having visitations from the Lord recently.

All of this fits with a young earth.

There was a good video on this, I'll try to find it and post it.

Brock,

While Answers in Genesis and Creation Ministries International support a young earth, there are eminent evangelical scholars who support an old earth. See some of the reasons at: A Biblical Case for Old-Earth Creationism

See also, Norm Geisler: “The Young Earth view is not one of the Fundamentals of the Faith. It is not a test for orthodoxy.”

Have you read any evangelical scholars who conclude with an old earth and the reasons they give for believing such an age?
My comment assumes you believe in an old earth/universe. If you don't, the estimate doesn't apply.

I said in the original post that I leaned towards the belief of an old earth rather than a young one.

Brock,

Would you be able to share your reasons for leaning towards an old earth interpretation?

Many thanks,
Oz

I agree with the Bible
It doesn't tell us the age
If people are millions of years old, if people come from monkeys and slime, it goes against the Adam and Eve teaching.
So why believe it?
We don't need so-called experts in science to tell us what the Bible means.
Charles Russell changed the Bible to fit what he believes.
Scientists today try to do the same thing.

OzSpen, in all your teachings all your life on an old earth, what has any of it done to edify the church?
That is a more important question than anything you are posing.

Hey Barbarian, you believe in an old earth?

One doesn't "believe in" things like that. One accepts or rejects them on the evidence. Since scripture doesn't say how old the Earth is, that's not an issue.

Radioisotope dating, for example, says the Earth is Billions of years old, and we know that's reliable, since it accurately dated the flow that buried Pompeii.

As Kelvin showed, the heat flux from the Earth says that it cannot be less than tens of millions of years old.

Darwin won his argument with Kelvin, pointing out that a few million years was inadequate, given evolution. He was right, as Rutherford later showed.

We can measure the rate of spreading from the Mid-Atlantic ridge. It shows that the spreading has been going on for hundreds of millions of years.

How about the Mississippi Delta?
How long has that been spreading?
