Those that follow Jesus Christ are referred to as "Christians" today. This was not always the case, however. The Bible records another name that the first century church was referred as. In Acts 24:14 we read, "But this I confess to you, that after 'the way', which they call a sect, so worship I the God of the fathers, believing all things written in the law and in the prophets." Where did this term "the way" originate from? You may have guessed it, from Jesus himself (John 14:6).

What is the importance of knowing that the first century Christians were often referred to as "the way"? Today the term 'Christians' can mean many different things. There are many different denominations behind the term "Christian". The term "The Way" gives a much more clear and direct picture of how the first century disciples lived.

The obvious 'tell-tell' sign of someone being a follower of "The Way", was the WAY they lived their life. This is where the importance of this name comes to affect. The people knew they were followers of "The Way" because they followed the founder of "The Way", Jesus. In the same way a Jew is a Jew because he follows the customs of Jewish laws. A follower of "The Way" was known because they followed Jesus' way.

How simple yet profound this revelation is! All those that want to be a follower of 'The Way' must subscribe to the teachings of the founder (Jesus).

The point of this article is to point people to Jesus and His teachings. Those teachings that you can find in the four gospels. The same teachings that will judge us on the last day (John 12:48). These teachings separate a true believer of "The Way" from the imposters. You will know a good tree by it's fruit; therefore brothers and sisters, let us start (and continue) following Jesus' Way.

Very nice post.
Very simple.
If everyone believed what you've posted, we wouldn't have to discuss doctrine because we'd all be living as Jesus would have us live and it would not be necessary for us to have to hear that obedience is not necessary for salvation. Very sad indeed.

Thanks for a great post.

Yep,
Jesus said "I am the Way, the truth, and life; no one comes to the Father except by me."

I would think that had something to do with the title used.

Unless you be converted like a little child, you shall in no wise enter the Kingdom of Heaven. ~ Jesus

I like your last sentence.
Children come up with better questions than adults do.
Their head is not all full of doctrine, they can't understand concepts but only solid ideas.

Maybe the Moral Example Atonement is correct...
Use Jesus as an example.

I like your last sentence, also.

Think how simple that teaching is to follow. If Jesus did it, then we do it also.

The problem today, as I see it, is we are not satisfied with just following Jesus and living a life in accordance with what Jesus is. Instead, we search and search for explanations so we can find ways to circumvent the obvious and define the bare minimum needed for our salvation and then we are happy to just stop there when in reality it is the beginning.

We always want something different or new that excites us. We are not happy with the simple truth that Jesus has given us, so we look for complicated formulas to fill our time. In reality, all of our time should be filled with sharing Jesus' message with the whole world! We can't do that when we sit down watching T.V. and play video games all day (as an example).

At the end of the day, we have nobody to blame but ourselves. We all choose to do or don't do what God wants. We definitely have influences that effect these choices, but in the end, we still choose who we listen to.

Only those that are willing to follow the Lamb (Jesus) wherever he goes, will be able to be in tune with His voice when he speaks.

Sadly, we are not taught to listen to God. We are taught to listen to our pastors, friends, church leaders, parents, etc., everyone but God.

As an example, the church world has created a lie regarding a name that right-fully belongs to Jesus. They commit blasphemy when they give this name to a mere object. I remember reading this and thinking how wrong this was, but nobody believed me.

The truth finally seems to be coming out. I stumbled across this YT channel that made a video on this exact topic. Check it out here: bit.ly/SecretName
