  • John 17:3 [Full Chapter]
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1 Timothy 6:12
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

1 Timothy 6:19
Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Titus 1:2
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

Titus 3:7
That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

1 John 1:2
(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

1 John 2:25
And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

when i use the term saved i use it in reference==Eternal life ..so if we are absent from the body ..we aint here if we aint here were in heaven

ask your self this on question do you have eternal life ?
1 John 5:13 King James Version (KJV)
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God

another question that i ask many times in a message do you have a know so salvation ..that you know that you know beyond a shadow of doubt you have eternal life..the next breath you drawed is your last one. the next step is eternity. the soul leaves the Body were no longer alive . absent from the body . its appointed unto man once to DIE after this the judgment. so your analogy/ interpretation does not line up with scripture

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

This fleshly body will physically die and return back to the dust of the ground. It's our breath/spirit that returns back to God who gave it that He breathed life into us making us a living soul. Those who have believed in Christ will have, do have eternal life with Christ when we are resurrected when Christ returns and the New Jerusalem is ushered down where we will be with the Lord eternally.

this makes twice you backtracked

tell that to the undertaker next time you go to the funeral home

John 3:13; John 5:28, 29 and 1 Corinthians 15:51-58 makes it very clear that there is no one that has ever died has gone up to heaven.

soul sleep another empty well

Sorry, but I do not believe in that deceptive teaching of soul sleep.

Ecc 9:5 for the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

Psa 104:29 Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.

Dan 12:2 and many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

James 2:26 for as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

This body/flesh dies and deteriorates as it turns back to dust while in the ground. The breath/spirit goes back to God who gave it, Ecc 12:7. The soul which makes up the conscious part of ones being is that of thought, action and emotion. The spiritual nature of man regarded as immortal and separable from the body/flesh at death and susceptible to happiness or misery in a future state.

Without the spirit/breath from God our soul would not be alive as spirit and soul are connected, Genesis 2:7. When we physically die our soul, as the breath goes back to God who gave it. 1Corinthians Chapter 15 speaks of the resurrection of the dead as those who have died that are the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus as this is the first resurrection. We will not be raised from the grave in our old physical bodies, but will be raised with new Glorified bodies which we not know what we will look like, but will be like Christ, 1John 3:1-3.

not being saved and having the mind of christ

Well, if you want to ignore those scriptures from your Bible and let man's doctrines teach you, you go right ahead, but I will believe that of what has already been written.

Matthew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. (means we will be saved from the lake of fire as our names are found written in the Lamb's book of life)

1 Corinthians 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Question: "What does it mean to be absent from the body?"

Answer:
The phrase “absent from the body” is found in 2 Corinthians 5:6-8. Paul states that he is confident in his eternal destiny and longs for the day when he can be “absent from the body” and be present with the Lord he loves and serves. To be “absent” from one’s body simply means to die because, at death, the spirit is separated from the body and moves into its eternal abode—either heaven with the Lord or hell, separated from God for eternity. https://www.gotquestions.org/absent-from-the-body.html

so when you use the phrase MAN doctrine might remind you that so is yours

when the apostle paul wrote to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling that is what he means. i have said from the beginning along with others..i disagree with you.. there i will stand. i have done my homework research to make sure . by some chance i have made a error in my study.. i can only read my Bible which READS the same as yours..from there i do internet resources . many which i use all the time. i have yet to run across a BIG red flag of caution... even Got questions which i seldom look at even though they are calvinist based . even at that there doctrine of how we are saved . i am %100 in disagreement with.. my hole point is sources .i examine from all perspectives before saying i agree . like you in forums i play hard ball when posting.. some could say debate some arguments some discussions. for me i really don't care what it is called . each one of has a man doctrine trying to work out our own salvation.
{ i see this scripture used so many times it falls in with judge not lest ye be judged }

Matthew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. (means we will be saved
iam still pondering the correct interpretATION of this.. due the fact we are under Grace we look back to the finished works of the cross. the price is paid our job is to repent so really dont see this connected to our saved by grace :tonguelan of salvation.. yes i realize this will draw fire.. but once again i am big boy and i can take the rebuke.. <lol> i dont run with the big Dogs .i stay in the shade lol so there is two disagreements

I agree with this 100%, but while we are yet alive physically we need to abstain from the desires of this fleshly body,

Amen.

Which means we must be filled with the Spirit, in which we, by the Spirit, reign in dominion over the sin that dwells in our physical body, because we can’t be absent from it.

It’s by the Spirit, we mortify the sinful deeds that spring forth from our flesh, which we will struggle with until we die and are absent from it, and present with the Lord.

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Romans 8:12-13

Just because a certain website says it's so doesn't always make it so. There are way to many socially acceptable teachings out there, but what is actually written in the scriptures is not socially acceptable.

Read 2 Corinthians 5:1-8, carefully, especially vs. 8, 9 as you will see it is only Paul saying it is his desire to be with the Lord being absent from this sinful flesh. As yet being still alive we try to be absent from this filthy flesh as we continue to walk in the Spirit until Christ returns and we are changed.

Vs. 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.

Amen.

What you have written here is what was Paul's dilemma in what he wrote about in 2 Corinthians 2:1-9. It's like what he wrote in Romans 7:14-22. It's a dilemma to all of us.

We desire to be absent from this sinful flesh and would rather be present with the Lord in Spiritual fellowship with Him.

I never take anything personal. I never ask anyone to take my word for anything as even I am not perfect nor have all knowledge. It's only when I have turned away from what man has taught me all my life and really started to seriously get into the scripture for myself is when the Holy Spirit has taught me those things I never saw, or understood before.

I'm not an island, but a seeker of truth. If it ruffles feathers so be it as I have to only answer to God in what I teach others. If I error then the Holy Spirit will always send me someone more Spiritually learned than myself to correct me.

and might i also remind YOU just because one /you says it is correct ..does NOT make it correct .out of the so called discussion rules i gave you just 2 of my sources.. i also stated that what got question was.. i also gave you barnes commentary which is not a web site lets look at john Gill who studied un spurgeon (spelling)
Verse 8
We are confident, I say, and willing rather,.... We are cheerful in our present state, being assured of future happiness; though we choose rather

to be absent from the body; that is, to die, to depart out of this world. The interval between death, and the resurrection, is a state of absence from the body, during which time the soul is disembodied, and exists in a separate state; not in a state of inactivity and sleep, for that would not be desirable, but of happiness and glory, enjoying the presence of God, and praising of him, believing and waiting for the resurrection of the body, when both will be united together again; and after that there will be no more absence, neither from the body, nor from the Lord:

and to be present with the Lord. This was promised to Christ in the everlasting covenant, that all his spiritual seed and offspring should be with him. This he expected; it was the joy of this which was set before him, that carried him through his sufferings and death with so much cheerfulness; this is the sum of his prayers and intercession, and what all his preparations in heaven are on the account of. It is this which supports and comforts the saints under all their sorrows here, and which makes them meet death with pleasure, which otherwise is formidable and disagreeable to nature; and even desirous of parting with life, to be with Christ, which is far better.
i seldom use him i mainly stick with barnes and clarke this makes 3 sources in agreement .if i search hard enough long enough i could maybe find on in agreement with you.. i go by 2 or 3 sources just like the Bible say by 2 or 3 .. might i add i have used other sources but not going to waste my time posting.. if i aint here->dead and i am saved where am i at ? still in grave in a casket wearing what ever the funeral director put on me.. we have those perished in 9-11 no dead body where are they at absent from the body present with the Lord 1+1=2

I have Spiritual fellowship with the Lord everyday, and am in a physical body that is alive.

When I, (that is to say my body), die, I will be absent from my body.
