Translation difficulties and the miracle have perpetuated this confusion...

She was squeezing him...He was telling her to let him go...she didn't need to hold him like that, He wasn't going anywhere for a while.

The answer to why Mary thought that Jesus was a gardener because he was gardening...

Jesus is fully man as well as fully God. A paradox.

God created man to live in symbiosis with the Earth. Jesus, as a man like Adam, was fulfilling his duty to care for the Earth...Adam was Eden's gardener.
It's a symbolic thingy.

Luke 24:36-43
As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!” But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit. And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate before them.

The reason Jesus asked for something to eat was to demonstrate he was not a spirit, but made of "flesh and bones". Hope this helps clear up any questions.

One of the gospels has Jesus telling Mary not to touch him as he has not yet risen. Another gospel has Thomas touching him. When he died was a resurrected as a spirit or did his flesh come back to life like Lazarus?
A bodily resurrection.
Mary found the tomb but the body of Jesus was not there.
Mary thought someone had taken His body
Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

If she held on to Him it would have been His body.

By reading John 20:11-31, but the answer to your question is in verse
John 20:17 is the reason why Jesus told Mary, Touch me not; I'm not yet ascended to my Father.

Please Notice, it was two appearances of Christ, One with Mary, the other with His Disciples and Thomas present John 20:26-31.

You asked: When he died was a resurrected as a spirit or did his flesh come back to life like Lazarus? yes, as Spirit and Flesh for His appearances, we believe. But did you get your answer to the question before?

Susannah,

Your answers are found in a reading of the Scriptures near the end of each Gospel. Here's an example from Luke 24:

35 Then the two from Emmaus told their story of how Jesus had appeared to them as they were walking along the road, and how they had recognized him as he was breaking the bread. 36 And just as they were telling about it, Jesus himself was suddenly standing there among them. “Peace be with you,” he said. 37 But the whole group was startled and frightened, thinking they were seeing a ghost!
38 “Why are you frightened?” he asked. “Why are your hearts filled with doubt? 39 Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do.” 40 As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet (NLT).

Verses like these demonstrate Jesus' resurrection was a bodily resurrection. See:
Jesus’ resurrection was a bodily resurrection.

However, after the resurrection Jesus could suddenly appear in a situation (e.g. Luke 24:13-43). Even though he rose bodily from the grave, he had a 'transphysical' dimension in his life.

The really good question is why did she think he was a gardener?

And why was Jesus gardening?
It's a Jewish writing style. If you were Jewish, you would know John was pointing back to creation where Adam was a living soul who brought death into the world.
However, we are new creatures in Christ and Christ brings life through the resurrection.

I must add this. The garden was a place where all of creation was in harmony and God walked amongst them. the Tabernacle with Moses and later through the temple where foreshadows of the coming Messiah and the restoration of all things.

Outside of Eden chaos ensued and it was the first people of God who's task it was to expand Eden. As Christians, we share that same harmony with creation and with God, and our task is also to expand Eden.

Well... what you said is true...but real world is that he was gardening...seen him doing gardening things....man and Earth living in symbiosis... needing each other like in the Garden in Eden.

I was editing my post as you were posting lol!

What most people don't consider is the contrast between being inside the garden and outside the garden. Before death entered the world and humanity was exiled from the garden, humanity was tasked with expanding the garden... God always empowers His creation.

The picture John paints with Jesus in the garden, and being spoken of as a gardener shows us that there is a new Eden, and there is much work to be done. But it also shows us that we are no longer exiled, and we are brought back into harmony with God.

If it wasn't a bodily resurrection then one,.. nobody would be able to touch Him and two,.. then He wouldn't be the Son of God as that would mean He would have died just like the rest of us. It even says that He ascended into Heaven being in His body form. Can somebody please help me in finding the Bible verse or verses that talk about this?

I'd be glad to try to point out some scripture, but I am not sure what you mean by "this."

not to jump in as Mr.Sound Doctrine or whatever, but...

a -big- part of Christianity is the understanding that Our Lord humbled Himself and became Fully Flesh (100%) and Fully Divine (100%), at the same time, for a purpose set out by God.

A spirit-only resurrection is I think a gnostic concept...reminds me of the Nag Hammadi and other faux 'Christian' texts of that era.

Its...what makes Christianity something of a 'mystery cult,' except...ours is True. Just as The Lord, Christ Jesus, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, so too must all believers work with The Holy Ghost to crucify flesh (self) daily. less (me, you, any Christian), more Jesus.
