It will, but age has less to do with it than previously thought.

A significant percentage of youngsters who catch 19 need medical care to get them through it. The need to provide medical care to 20% of infected people is what this lockdown is all about. Without medical care, a 2% zap rate becomes 20%. Italy is just turning people away from hospitals, because they have no room. Their zap rate is close to 9% substantially because they can only provide medical care to about 9% of infected, instead of 20%.

Many youngsters need medical care too. The medical care thing is not an elderly only phenomenon. The difference is that a 20 year old who receives care will almost certainly survive, while an 85 year old who receives care may only have a 85% chance.

Ok so i chickened out and didn't wear the hazmat suit
I ended up just wearing the disposable N95 masks that fog my glasses

First I was surprised at how busy the shopping center was
It was business as usual with most stores open and plenty of people shopping
It was like a normal day

What surprised me the most was that only 1 in 8 people were even wearing masks.
So many elderly people over the age of 60 seemingly without a care in the world not wearing masks.

Considering it's the elderly that are most vulnerable to C19 I was quite astonished to find so many of them showing a total disregard for their own lives.
I am 66 but don’t consider myself “elderly “. I think nothing of hiking with my dog three hours over hilly terrain with a good bit of off trail bushwhacking.
I go to the gym 3 days a week minimum, ( except now it’s closed due to the virus). I ride a bike, play tennis and racquetball, shoot hoops, split, carry and stack firewood. Tilled our large vegetable garden this week. Climb on the roof to clean gutters.
Over 60 isn’t “elderly”!

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend

I guess what I meant was that the people who are at most risk are people over 60
What age would you regard as elderly? Definitions of the word are very broad usually saying something like "old"

The average life expectancy for a man in the states is 76 years old
Is he elderly when he surpasses that average?
Or is elderly when your in your last quarter of the average, about 60 yo?
One could make an argument for either really

To be fair i think the term elderly is defined by the person using the term
I remember when I was a kid I thought that 30 years was old
Then at about 20 i thought 50 years was old
Come to think of it i've always looked at my parents age as being the example of "old"

Do u get called sir? I still call my parents friends Mr and Mrs......

Ye sorry again if u were offended.
U shouldn't be but cos it's really a persons opinion I think

If anyone was confused about which age group is at risk these are the latest numbers

Also males are more at risk as well

The term to me is more a matter of a state of health and vitality that indicates a degree of increased frailty. Not a specific age.
But I am happy to accept senior discounts! Though sometimes I have to convince someone I am that old.
My father in law was still riding his ten speed serious distances, working outside with tractors, chainsaws and the like, riding horses etc into his eighties.
I know I don’t feel particularly old. When I am climbing around the rocky, hilly woods I am surrounded by sometimes I take pretty good falls. I intentionally go off trails for the challenge of going straight up ridges and places my dog and I want to check out. Anyway it’s no different now for me than when I was thirty. I get up laughing about it and we keep going.
Can’t say how many more years it will be this way. I have peers my age that work at going up and down the steps in their house.

Keep in mind that those numbers are for people who get treatment in a hospital. Without treatment, the rate is closer to 20%. In Italy, hospitals are turning some people away, and their rate is close to 9%. In New York, some hospitals have started removing ventilators from some patients while they are still alive, giving them no chance at all. Shortages of medical equipment and supplies may make rates in some areas astronomical. Even many youngsters need help breathing for a week or so.

Ye health didn't even enter my equation

Looking at various sources for the definition; Oxford, Webster, Cambridge, Collins.
None of them say anything about health to define the term elderly

I still think it's definition is in the mind of the user
I've sometimes said "hey im not a kid anymore"
And other times said "hey im not that old im not even grey"
So it just depends I think, I hate being called sir or Mr, makes me feel like a dinosaur...?

The last years I worked a lot of the people that reported to me called me “Mr. Jeff” despite the fact for a good while I said that wasn’t necessary. But many of them were in their late twenties to thirties.

Indeed, but notice that even the full face masks have a cone around the mouth. There is no easy way to deal with a beard when it comes to masks. Temporarily shaving the face during this emergency is the most practical course of action.
We had to be clean shaven as per requirements at the refinery so a proper fit of ppe could be reasonably assured. Of course there were those who tested the boundaries with mustaches, goatees and stubble.

They say you enter the youth of old age at 50 and the adolescence of old age when entering your 60s.

In the 14th-16th the black death ravished Europe, aka the plague.

To keep from getting infected this is the mask that the doctors wore
