Hello,

My name is Doug, aka, TibiasDad. I am a sixty-year-old pastor in the Church of the Nazarene. I have been a Christian since I was 17, after being raised in the church my whole life. I have been married for 39 years, and have one son.

I have been on staff of my church for 13 years, and my area of ministry is working with senior adults. Prior to the arrival of Covid-19, I held weekly church services and Bible studies at five Assisted Living facilities in our county, averaging around 65-70 per week in attendance. Corona has dethroned much of that activity, though I still have a weekly church service via Zoom at one facility and a couple of months ago was able to resume an outdoor Bible study, so for this I am thankful.

My hobbies are music (I play piano and sing, compose and write lyrics) and writing (I've published two Christian novels and one non-fiction biblical study book). I have typically enjoyed baseball and football, and am a life long, die-hard Ohio State and Cincinnati Reds and Bengals fan! (Which means I understand the concept of perseverance especially well.) My two other hobbies are reading and trying to answer all things unanswerable, which is why I've come to be a part of ChristianForums.net, at the personal invitation of JBL. (Yes, you may hold this over his head if necessary! ;) )

Looking forward to getting to know you,

Doug

Hi TibiasDad and welcome to CF. Looking forward with sharing the word of God with you as we grow in a deeper relationship with Christ. I too have written to books. One is called "My People Perish" which is a collection of Bible studies and another book called "The Unveiling" that is a study in Revelations chapter by Chapter. I never had them published, but use both books here in the forums to help teach others. I really enjoy teaching the word of God and also learning by the Holy Spirit working through others here to help teach me.

God bless you and yours.

Thank you for your kind words! My non-fiction effort is called The Watchtower Jesus, and as it would appear, is about dealing with JWs that show up on our doorstep. I focus on the Deity of Christ.

I too try to invite them in for some Bible study, which they usually decline as they are not allowed to engage in studying with non-JW's. On the rare occasion they will come in and I too share the Deity of Christ with them as they are taught Jesus was created by God and Christ appeared on earth after his resurrection in a special body that Jehovah created for him. I had two males come in and the one was very interested as we both took out our Bibles and I was sharing the scriptures with the both of them, but the other one got very nervous and wanted to leave right away. Seeds were planted.

You’re right that they typically won’t do a “Bible study”, especially not with a non-Witness leading, or without a senior Witness with them. Surprisingly, over on the CARM forums, there was a Jehovah Witnesses forum that were full of JWs and other Unity types ho deny the Trinity.
You are also correct that the goal should always be to plant seed. My goal is always to try and get a group of Witnesses to return for a second or third visit, and I’ve even carried on a lengthy email correspondence with one Witness after our in person meetings stopped. The whole goal is to plant seeds and build bridges. My wife and I were even invited to a graduation party for the daughter of a Witness that worked for my wife.

How many regular members do we have that are pastors? Few I would guess....

I use to be a licensed Evangelist for God's purpose of sending me into prisons to have Bible studies with the inmates. It was only for a time and a season, but then God brought me to CF and all the great people here. I was only licensed through a church I use to belong to that closed down years ago.
