10% x 10% is indeed 1%. How counter-intuitive! God does have a great sense of humor, but somehow I don't think He'd reveal something like this to someone who thought it meant way less than 1 in 100 was getting in ...

Hey wait, you guys got me wondering if I spoke correctly. Isn't square root the same thing as a number squared? (I've never been very good at math)

So maybe I used a wrong term? He went through the numbers too (of the present world population based on a 6 billion figure) and came up with close to 8000.

So...squared, square root? I don't know, I forget his exact figures but his concluding answer I do.

No, squared and square root are not the same, but they are related. In fact, one is the converse of the other. Maybe an example would help:

In 3 x 3 = 9,
3 is the square root of 9.
9 is the square of 3.

He went through the numbers too (of the present world population based on a 6 billion figure) and came up with close to 8000.
Well, then he was using the square of 1%, not the square root. Using exactly 1% squared gives an even 1,000,000 to 1.

Those population figures yield 769,230 to 1 headed to perdition, which is in the same ballpark. A very astounding ballpark.

Jay55's comment is looking scary now.

Ok sorry about that you guys. Math has always been my worst subject (except counting money accurately, lol). I think I thought that the square of a number was shorthand for square root or something, lol.

Wait, .01 x .01 is not going to wind up with 6 decimal places before the 0!

Not that the math here is what matters. Revelation tells us of 144,000, remember? And those from just one short period of time. Not that I'm saying this is necessarily literal, just that a million to one odds like a lottery is NOT God's plan of Salvation

I suspected that, but not being good at math, I didn't know how to counter what you said, lol. Now I've thought about it, his figure was 7700 and change which is kinda close to what you posted...if you move the decimal, lol

And you are right, God is not willing that any should perish, but He did make some big promises, like no liars or thieves in heaven and so forth, plus many will say to Him on that day...Lord we did all these things and He's going to have to say, I never knew you. (or He couldn't keep His promises!)

I guess it really depends on one's perspective. Do you come to Christ w/ the expectation that Heaven "comes with the deal," or do you go for the Holiness way of doing things, that one must stay "prayed up," etc. in order to "earn" Heaven? Or...to take a more sophisticated approach...do you pull an RC Sproul, Calvinist slant and decide that its a miracle that anybody goes to Heaven?

The Barna stuff I read over makes it seem that maybe 1-in-3 church goers are genuinely Born Again, in terms of outlook and philosophy. Kinda scary. Then again...there's a lot of US church goers, and 1 in 3 is far better than, say, 0 in 3.

Let's remember...Our Father, who art in Heaven; hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth, as it is in Heaven....

and keep on praying, fighting the good fight, etc. He who endures to the end shall be saved. :)

Yes, my math was off. 1% squared translates to 10,000 to 1, which I said in an earlier post and should have stuck with. Was just trying to figure out how someone could say only 8,000 would be saved out of the entire world population. That is a shockingly small number, and does close in on million to one odds.

Squares a powers at a fraction.

Meaning multiplying the base by half ,one third so on.

In percentages that will increase its size as zero cancels out. 1 percent is .01

NDEs do occur after all vital signs are gone. Not all of them, of course. Basically, medical science is never going to label any such thing as "death," because that would then imply there's something they don't know.

Well not all of them come back either. I thought about it and it may be a misused term, near death experience. They're not near death, they're dead.

To take the thought even further, it's actually a near Life experience, isn't it? Jesus is the way, the truth , and the Life and whether they get to visit hell or heaven, Jesus is always involved so it is more of a near Life experience than anything else, lol.

You lost me, lol. How much would that be in dollars? That, I have a handle on.

I thought the square was the number times itself or something like that? Like, the square of 5 is 25 (5 X 5)?

I remember him talking some of it. I remember he said the square of a million is 10,000 and then (something) and something something then .01 and the answer is 7700 something. So Does that give you any clue to how he got there?

10 to the third is 10000,10 to the 6 is 100000.,1million to the half power aka square is 10000.you can ask was the 3rd root of 27 which is 3
