I posted in the prayer section a link to a short opinion piece from fox news ((never, ever thought I"d be linking to fox news, btw...just sayin')) about the growing persecution of Christians. A lot of us are aware of the violent, even straight up genocidal persecution in parts of the Middle East, but...

the piece also mentioned growing persecution in the US. I'm thinking/assuming if its growing in the US, then its already an "issue" in other affluent, developed, modernized 21st century nations.

So...just out of curiosity...do any of you have personal stories of persecution you'd care to share? Thanks. :)

Personally, I have some pretty cool God-stories of ANTI persecution.

The closest I've come to persecution was my kids in Elementary and Middle School, around 2005. Muslims allowed to pray no matter how much they disturbed everybody, including on their mat in a crowded hallway between class periods. Christians couldn't even wear a cross, much less any sort of emblem on a shirt.

I've been fired before because I am a Christian.
Not a big deal. I went to another job the next day.
Then when someone started bad-mouthing Christians the boss spoke up...said he was one too. That shut him up. He didn't last long on the job.

I'm usually a foreman on jobs. (Construction) I make it very clear that I am a Christian and that if you don't like it I'll kick your "lower back/upper leg" area.
But...I also celebrate Easter and Christmas with cookies for everyone and candy. Even the jerks are given cookies.
Next thing you know everyone is talking about going to church instead of parties involving heavy drinking and recreational drugs. I've seen the difference...
All it takes is one guy to stand up without apologizing. And it's amazing what happens.

i now and then get mild persecution, from my "progressive" acquaintances. I'm not even -conservative-, I'm just....Christian....as in a bona fide Christian (not hopping into the local Episcopalian social center to soothe my conscience kind of "Christian"), and that "rubs them the wrong way," etc. I don't get it.

I am not ashamed of the Gospel!

Man, now I gotta listen to some Carman, lol

So I'm on Tumblr right. On Tumblr there's a large segment that is dedicated to call out culture, which is where they'll harass people online for having views they seem immoral--in some cases they'll look up someone's personal information, post it publicly, and either encourage people to be nasty or contact said person's workplace to tell them to fire said person. That's called doxxing, and it's illegal.

I've not been targeted directly, though I once attracted the attention of the call out community when they messaged me telling me to avoid someone because "they're a Nazi" and I basically told them to find something better to do than spread rumors about people that may or may not be true. So they made a post mentioning me, and that was scary because I had no idea if they planned for me to be their next bullying target or whatever. Their post about me made special mention of me being "an evangelical Christian", in a way that you could tell they didn't think highly of that.

Aside from that, there used to be a member on another site that would come on my profile and just dump an angry tirade on me, y'know. Every few months. And me being me, instead of ignoring them I was like "maybe they just misunderstand me and I can alleviate that by explaining". Just made things worse.
I don't think they're a bad person though, just they were hurt and since I was part of the group they felt hurt them they refused to give me the benefit of a doubt.

I don't think I would call that persecution, but people are definitely more aggressive about particular topics and they feel justified and empowered to act that way now than in the past.
What I would worry about is the Tumblr mentality and call out culture spreading. They don't only target Christians, but Christians are definitely one of the groups on their crap list if they hold certain views. If you get a large group of people who think it's okay to bully others and they have a community that encourages and empowers that behavior, that's not good for anybody.

2 Timothy 3:10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, 11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

The persecutions we see here in the USA are mostly verbal as well I know in my own walk with the Lord and if I'm right they are not life threatening, but sure it will be in the future. They can play with our emotions, but yet we know who we are in Christ so it should never bother us.

I work with a ministry in India and receive many reports and pictures of the brutality that comes against them by the Hindus. Pastors being murdered, families dying and Churches being burned down as they live their lives for the Lord. The greatest testimony is that no matter the persecutions they continue forward in the work God has called them to.

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

The "call out" culture has spread to essentially everywhere young people exist, and is only getting worse.
I so long for the days when it was considered honorable to humiliate such a disrespectful belligerent punk physically, so they would come to understand exactly who their superior is.

I have no idea how this is going to be remedied in today's society.

They don't don't realize "nazi" means national socialist workers party. So unless the person they called a Nazi is a socialist they really don't know what they talking about.
Tumblr's thing is they'll call everything racist or Nazi whether it is it or not.
At least, the political side of Tumblr. I try to stay on the fandom side, but it leaks over into there too sometimes.

I don't get the kids these days, lol. Like this whole MeToo movement. I Mean, OK...yay! stand up to rape! awesome! But...there's a seriously punitive, even draconian component to the whole thing, as in...--I-- say he raped me...send him away, throw away the key! TO THE DUNGEON!

I mean....due process, anyone? Just an example off the top of my head, totally off topic (of course).

This is Antifa, and their influence. Many people are buying into their ideology without even realizing it. It is a very dangerous game they play. Are you aware of the College Prof in jail for violence via bike lock?
