You asked me a question in another thread, and I wasn't able to get back to it, so rather than derailing the other thread (which has pretty much run its course), though that I'd bring it here.
I don't think that it will affect our duties as Christians at all. Might make it harder...

This is primarily for those who hold that Jesus is the Son of God, but not God in the flesh...and I'm curious as to opinions concerning the following...
In the short time that I've been here, I've seen denial of the Divinity of Christ, the Trinity, etc., from those who claim the title "Christian".
So then, the question is: "Are there essential doctrines that one must adhere to in order to be a Christian, and if so, what are they?"

Used to be that Apologetics (defense of the faith from attacks outside the faith) and Polemics (defense of the faith from attacks within Christianity [i.e. heresy]) were two completely different disciplines. Scholars devoted...
