Throughout all of Scripture, God never gave the compliment to any man or woman that they had "too much faith," so I will never consider that a possibility for myself or anyone else.
There are plenty of times where people in Scripture don't have enough faith.
Yahoo! has a story about the world's second oldest person and the oldest American, Gertrude Weaver. I will let you all read the story for yourselves, but wanted to share one awesome piece:
'Weaver cited three factors for her longevity: "Trusting in the Lord, hard work and loving everybody."...
Never thought I said that? I said not to make Bible reading an idol, as in feeling like you have to get your "hour's worth of reading in" or you fail, or something of that nature. It is always good to read your Bible..I wasn't warning against reading too much. It IS important to be doers of the...
I haven't read the bulk of the responses and won't get into any debate, but I think there is some validity in what your friends say, but not to the point where they should be questioning your walk in any way. James says to be not only hearers of the Word, but doers also. (ref. James 1:22). It is...
Well, I have not been around the forum very consistently and wasn't allowed to post in this particular forum for most of my time on cfnet, but wanted to throw out probably the most vague question of all time in regards to marriage and see what happens. Sooo to all who are married, male or...
To RECEIVE salvation, you need nothing but faith, but to truly live that salvation out, works are necessary. As someone else noted, "faith without works is dead." We receive salvation from the sacrifice of Christ and His resurrection, and Scripture tells us that "while we were still sinners...
So you need to figure out what you think the Spirit would bear witness about: The virgin birth of Jesus, or His baptism and crucifixion..
This is a Matthew Henry commentary expounding on the latter, and the perspective I take. That explanation of the water and blood representing a virgin birth...
This whole stereotyping argument is silly. I'm a guy, and if you look at many TV shows with families, the Dad is either a total boss of everyone or portrayed as hopelessly incompetent. Guys can be stupid sometimes; they aren't stereotyping men in saying that all men are either bosses or...
Alright dude, it's obvious we're not getting anywhere here. You've still never explained why born of water would signify a simple birth of a human being, while born of water and blood would mean supernatural birth by Mary. I understand the Spiritual birth is not first and never claimed that to...
But if you would only keep going in the 1 John passage, the context indicates that water and blood are separate things.
6 This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is...
If it's our right, then that would make it open-handed; it does not skew either of our views on who Jesus was, is, or what He's done and provided.
Did Jesus not come back following His crucifixion?
You have yet to explain why it's a reference to the virgin birth. Jethro seems to be making...
Okay, but there is no other evidence that people from that era described natural birth with the description of "water." It might be easier for us to say, yeah the amniotic fluid that the baby is living in could be seen as water to people back then. Even today, we have the phrase that "her water...
I understand the context and what the passage actually says. I'm saying that I don't think born of water and spirit in the first verse is supposed to be taken as too separate things, unlike the born of flesh and born of spirit. If you can prove that born of water means natural childbirth then I...
I actually brought up the same thing to my pastor and he stated that the first two are not supposed to be linked to the second two. So birth of water and spirit are supposed to be viewed together, while the flesh and Spirit contrast each other. Looking in my study Bible, the note on that passage...
I hate to be nitpicky, and maybe I shouldn't be, but I had certain things to comment on in this post, that simply don't line up. You make a good point about a church being influenced by false teachers who preached circumcision and Mosaic law as necessary for new believers, but that church was in...
