I hated math in High School. Loved art, so I focused on that. But in college I took a Physics course and the calculus clicked. Finished an engineering degree. Now I'm a geophysicist by profession and having fun with the equations in graduate school. Still paint though :)
I'm telling you...
I think one of the places that the idea of demons being fallen angels comes from is Revelation 12:4. There, it sounds as if one third of the heavenly hosts rebelled.
Isaiah 14:12-6 talks about "the morning star" falling from heaven; and the reason for falling being pride.
Hi Jeff!
Yes, all is well! It's good to be back ...and to see some familiar people. I've just been busy lately...graduate school and such. Hope you are well also :)
I'll look into the scriptures about the angels and satan; although, I'm fairly sure they are somewhat vague.
I've heard it said that angels had free will at one point. For example, if you consider humans, we are presented with choices and exercise our choices continually. In contrast, angels had only one choice, one decision. This would be the time satan and the other angels fell. Now, they are...
I too, doubt he thought dead people became glowing balls of hydrogen. I also agree that Luke clearly states that "spirits" are not physical in Luke 24:39. However, in Corinthians 15, Paul is using the term "spiritual" to describe the resurrected body; not in the sense of stars and glowing...
I see, in my mind I'm not sure what healing, prophecy, tongues, and miracles, would apply to, if not to the stories in the gospels and especially acts
This view doesn't seem to harmonize well with the rest of the chapter. Although I can see how this could just be a disagreement in semantics...
I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done— by the power of signs and miracles, through the power of the Spirit. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully...
I'm very late to make this comment, but I'd like to point out that a comparison should be made between what happened in Athens, and what happened in Jerusalem on Pentecost. It is very instructive to us in that it illustrates what we will expect in our mission. In particular, compare Acts 2:41...
I know I'm interupting here, and I know this question wasn't posed to me (I am neither Calvinist nor Arminian but somewhere inbetween) but I wanted to answer it.
I would say yes to the first part:
Do YOU think it is ethical/moral for god to create those who he purposefully sends to hell,
But...
Yes, I see your point. God can use anything he wants to his good. ...maybe I should just say the TV media provides a platform that lends itself easily to harm. I think you really have to push hard the other way to make it good.
Well, I'm not in a place to deny a persons right to salvation. I can't make those judgements, I only believe God can do that. But, if someone believes Jesus died for the sins of the world, I accept them as a Christian brother or sister. I'm sure I would disagree or deeply worry about someone...
Well I'm sure in some cases it has. But, all Christians are doing their best to follow Jesus not "religion".
I don't believe Jesus is the Father, but that they are two distinct persons. I affirm what has been called the trinity, but that is partly because of Jesus' statement in John 14:7...
They do not listen to Jesus; and so they are not on the side of truth.
Here is what Jesus says:
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:7
Everyone on the side of truth listens to me. John 18:37
If what they proclaim is...
One can be enemies with someone and still love them. This is what Jesus called us to do. The muslim faith is an enemy. We are to proclaim Jesus as the only way to the Father as He taught us; yet, love while we are doing it.
Wow! Welcome! I'm sure you and your family will be a blessing to the church as well! We may just physically cross paths someday :-) From my experience the amount of depth in the MS church's scholarship and study of the Bible is wonderful...we truely regard the Bible as truth!
We will see what happens. There is a split forming in that Church due to their recent decisions. I'm fairly close to this as I'm part of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church (which is about half the size of the Evangelical Lutheran Church). My church holds fast to the inerrancy of the Bible and...
In fact, if anybody is interested, here is a great read on how the media and Jesus simply don't mix:
http://books.google.com/books?id=ojxTzo ... q=&f=false
Malcom Muggeridge frames "the media" as the fourth temptation. It's a very probing and witty read. You can see why Jesus came in a time...
I'm planning on not having a TV when I raise my children. I don't have one now and it's been quite refreshing. I guess I will just have to worry about the internet....which is another thing to tackle.
Yeah... but sometimes we people mess it up. And this is a complex philosophical issue so it's not suprising. I disagree with those who hold the position that there are only certain elect whom God loves, but I'm not going to say they're going to hell (not my judgement anyways)- not even close...
The verses also don't say that "all" doesn't mean "all with black hair". ....
Yup, and I've worked iniquity; and unfortunately probably still will. Without Christ I am one of those He hates.
