Just How important is Prayer in your life?

1SA 12:23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

How Important should it be?

PRAY WITHOUT CEASING!

When you hear of an incident--send up a prayer.

When you see a situation--send up a prayer.

When your feelings are roused--send up a prayer!

However--if you see a brother in need and you have it by you to supply his need--don't pray--ACT!!

Agreed, Evanman. When I read this verse it just struck me that failing to pray is actually a sin. Christians often don't realize this, myself included. Prayer is a must.

Excellent food for thought Brutus.
  • We wouldn't think of going all day or days without speaking to our earthly fathers (if we have ample opportunity) but many "christians" never give a thought to going to their heavenly Father in prayer. :sad
God knows our hearts but He still likes for His children to come to Him and talk to Him. Everyone of us need to make prayer an important part of every day.

1Thess5:16-18-
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
I give this verse ot to anyone who wants to know what "God's will" is for their life. If we are in an attitude of continuous prayer, be SURE that in the correspondance between you and God, His will will be abundantly clear. Prayer is powerful. Anybody read any E.M Bounds's works?

That verse is a favorite of mine, Wild. I just don't think that enough Christians think of not praying as a Sin.

Indeed prayer is very powerful, and God's guided me often because I was not afraid to seek His hand in prayer. :biggrin

I've never been much of a reader, so I have never heard of this author. Can you suggest a book or two for me to take a look at?

Sure. He's a 19th-Century author (or early 20th, maybe) - so, in my opinion, its good to get one of his books that has modern english terms substituting his archaic verbs and pronouns. But he has many books on prayer. The Possibility of Prayer, The Power of Prayer, The Purpose of Prayer, etc. ANY of these books are REALLY good treatises on prayer - foundational, faith-building, scripturally based, encouraging, and inspiring are words that come to mind when I read them. I got "The Complete Works of E. M. Bounds" from my wife for my anniversary this year. Granted, some of the old works from ancient authors are dry and boring to some. Instead of spending money on it, go to thislink. Many other Classic Christian works can be downloaded from this site - free.

I am bound to say that I had never heard of E M Bounds before!

An Elderly Spiritually-experienced Man of God used to remind me of this verse whenever i answered that i was not praying much.

This is really a very serious verse which clearly says that "Not Praying is a Sin".

A Man of God said "Praying is just like Breathing". So, what happens when we don't breathe? we cease to live. Similarly, if we fail to pray, we cease to live spiritually.

A healthy prayer life is a sure sign of a good spiritual life. :biggrin
