Chapter Nine; The O'Reilly Clan

As Lilly stepped inside, a bunch of other leprechauns were huddled around her. That's when suddenly they all turned to face one another and started to whisper. Lilly studied them very carefully as she caught certain words like "girl" and "stranger." "I'm still here you know." she commented rather loudly catching their attention. "I haven't left." she said before suddenly a female leprechaun with bright red hair like Dan's (although hers was curly) and long silky green dress with bright blue eyes and wooden shoes upon her feet walked over to her.

"I'm sorry miss, please excuse us. We don't mean to be rude." she began. "I'm Mrs. O'Reilly, but you can just call me Patricia. And these four young gentlemen are my boys. Patrick, Keith, Ryan, and Dylan. And these two right here are my twin girls Molly and Shannon." she explained.

"So basically I'm the black sheep of the family." Mike began. "Since everybody has an Irish name but me." he explained.

"Well at least you weren't saddled with a name that comes from an old Irish song." Dan said before all four of his brothers gathered around him and started to sing.

"Oh Danny boy the pipes are calling,.." they sung out before Dan raised his fist and shook it at them.

"Oh yeah, well you'll be calling a dentist to have your teeth fixed if you don't shut up." he growled underneath his breath.

"Touchy." one of his brothers (Lilly wasn't quite sure which one since they were all rather tall and skinny and looked exactly the same) began. "You really need to lighten up a bit Danny." he teased.

"He's totally not even worth our time worrying about, he wouldn't hurt a fly." another one of the boys said.

"Yeah, he totally fits the Danny in the song." the third brother said when suddenly Dan's eyes turned as red as his hair.

"Yeah,.. he even lives in a meadow!" the first brother exclaimed and before Dan knew it he was on top of him and the two leprechauns started wrestling each other to the ground before Patricia's own eyes turned red.

"Boys! That's enough! We have a guest!" she hollered before her eyes instantly changed back to blue and then she turned back over to look at Lilly. "I'm sorry my dear, I didn't catch your name." she said.

"Uh,.. Lilly." she replied rather quietly.

"Right then. So how exactly did you get here miss Lilly?" she inquired.

"Uh,.. I__ I don't know." Lilly replied.

"Daniel can answer that one for you." Mike began. "Go on, tell her son." he instructed while both of the boys slowly got up off of the floor.

"I shrunk her." Dan admitted sheepishly before his mother put her hands upon her hips and glared at him sternly.

"I see. And just why in the name of Saint Patrick would you want to do a thing like that for!?" she exclaimed.

"I had no choice Ma, she nearly ran me over!" he cried. "I think the real question here is what was she doing in the Enchanted Woods in the first place? No human has ever been known to find them before, and not only that,.. but you're supposed to get into Fairytopia by using the Garden Gates not the woods."

"What??" Lilly questioned him with uncertainty. "I don't even know what you're talking about." she told him with a shake of her head before he quickly turned back over to look at her.

"The Garden Gates. That's the real way into Fairytopia. It's right after the Sea of Tears. That's where all of the sorrow in the world gets washed away since it can't enter here." he explained.

"Wait a minute, that must be what I dreamed about then." Lilly realized.

"Nobody has been able to enter here before without passing through it." he told her.

"Actually, as it just so happens,.. there has." his mother began. "You see a long time ago there was another girl who discovered our land by our woods. Her name was Jessica Darcy. The only problem was that since she didn't pass through the gates, she didn't have all of her sorrow drained out of her. I know this because I met her once, it seems like yesterday although in reality it was such a long time ago." she explained.

"Wait a minute? Jessica as in the evil enchantress Jessica?" Lilly inquired as Patricia nodded.

"Yes child." she told her.

"So,.. what happened?" Lilly wondered.

"Well at first she seemed like a lovely child, but the more I started to know her the more I started to realize just how exactly troubled and misguided she was. She came from an abusive situation. A lot of the time her mother would drink and take her anger out on her, and her father was hardly ever home. When he was, he didn't believe that the young and beautiful woman that he fell in love with and married would do such an awful thing like that. So he called her a liar, he told her that she needed to grow up and sent her to her room afterwards. So she decided to runaway." she explained as Lilly bit her lip.

"I know how she feels." she admitted when all of a sudden all of the leprechauns looked over at her with concern. "I mean, nobody has hit me before, but I know how it feels when just about everyone you know thinks that you're being untruthful. Although I can't say that I blame them for it since I haven't always been a hundred percent honest in the past." she told them.

"See that's the trouble with lies." Patricia began. "You start telling enough at them and you start getting so good at it that people will believe them until they find out that they're untrue. And once they do find that out, it's really hard for them to trust you again. Since trust isn't something that can easily be glued together again." she told her.

"I'm beginning to understand that." Lilly began. "So what happened to Jessica?" she asked.

"Well,.. at first she loved it here in Fairytopia. I swear in all my eight hundred and fifty two years I had never met a more kinder, beautiful, and gentler little girl. However, once she met the queen of our land that's when she suddenly changed. She started becoming envious of her beauty and tried capturing her and pulling her wings off." Patricia explained as Lilly's mouth suddenly fell wide open.

"You mean Sophie's mother?" she questioned her out of horror and utter disbelief.

"You mean to tell me that this child has met our princess?" Patricia responded as Dan nodded.

"Yes. Sophie's the whole entire reason that she's here in fact." he told her.

"So,.. anyway,.." Patricia continued. "Maria had to do something that was one of the hardest things that she ever had to do. She banished Jessica and sent her away into the darkness. I never saw her after that." she said.

"It's true." Dan began with a nod. "I remembered what happened when she first got here, but I didn't know that it was the same way that Lilly got her. The only time she comes out of her castle now is when she's collecting magic." he said.

"I hope you guys understand that I'm nowhere like her." Lilly began. "Just because I came the same way that she did." she finished. "I mean we might share some similarities but I'm not an evil person at all." she told them when suddenly a moment of silence fell over them. "Honest!" she exclaimed. "I'm really not!" she cried indignantly.

"Calm down I believe you child." Patricia began soothingly.

"How can you?" one of the leprechaun brothers began. "Jessica said exactly the same thing."

"I know, but Lilly has come from a lot different situation than she did. However, that doesn't excuse the fact that she lied and ran away from her mother who must be so worried sick about her right now. I think that Daniel you better take her down to the Sea of Tears just in case." she said.

"What? Why?" Lilly wondered.

"Don't you remember what I told you before? There can be absolutely no sorrow or negativity in this land. It wasn't meant to exist here. All you have to do is go wash yourself in it and you'll be fine. Then you won't have anything to worry about." he explained.

"Yes but I think that that can wait until tomorrow. First we need to put some food in that belly of yours and find some place for you to sleep for the night." Patricia said.

"She can share our room." one of the twins suggested. Lilly thought that they looked rather cute. They both had long red curly hair like their mother with fancy silky pink and purple dresses.

"Thank you dear." Patricia said smiling down at her daughter. "Why don't you go ahead and show Lilly to her room then?" she questioned as both twins nodded before showing Lilly down the hallway.

Chapter Ten; Squirrelback Riding

That night Lilly slept rather soundly and peacefully. She had never had such bountiful feast for supper let alone any meal. For she had absolutely no idea that roasted rat and frog legs (although the sound of it didn't sound very appealing to her) would be so delicious. She wasn't too crazy about the lily pad salad that Patricia made, but she was very honored by the fact that she made it in honor of her. The next morning Lilly woke up and threw on a new set of clothes before going down into the kitchen. "So, what's for breakfast?" she asked.

"Toast, cereal, oatmeal,.." Dan began. "take your pick." he replied.

"Ah,.. I see some things never change. That sounds pretty normal." she said.

"I can fry up some snake eggs and lizard guts for you if you want me to." Patricia suggested and Lilly made a face.

"No thanks." she quickly replied with a quick shake of her head before Patricia placed her hands upon her hips.

"Now how do you know you don't like it if you never even tried it?" she questioned her. "May I point out that you felt exactly the same way about that rat before you decided to step out of your comfort zone and it give it a try. Then I couldn't stop you from raving about it."

"Oh come on Ma, if she doesn't want to try it she doesn't have to." Dan said.

"That's true, but if she doesn't she will never know what she's missing out on." she told him.

"Well, we don't have time to eat a large breakfast anyway. I have to take her to Paradise Beach so that she can wash in the Sea of Tears remember?" he questioned.

"Ah yes, right, very good point." she began. "And the sooner she does it the better if you ask me. The longer she stays in Fairytopia unclean, the longer we have to worry about her turning into Jessica." she said before quickly glancing over at Lilly who tried opening her mouth to defend herself but she simply put a hand up to stop her. "Not like we are, we just want to take the proper precautions." she assured her. "Now Patrick, can you please get the snake eggs out of the refrigerator for me?" she questioned her other son while he strolled into the kitchen.

"Yes Ma." he replied before he turned around and opened it up and Lilly made a face again. Dan stifled a laugh before he quickly turned over to her.

"Here." he told her while presenting her a box of Lucky Charms that he removed from the cupboard. "There's goat's milk and unicorn's milk in the fridge but I personally prefer the goat's milk myself." he told her.

"Don't you people ever use milk from a cow?" she wondered.

"Huh? What's a cow?" he asked her.

"You know what a goat is but you never heard of a cow before?" she questioned him but he just simply stared at her blankly. "Never mind." Lilly said with a groan and a heavy sigh before she rolled her eyes and started walking towards the fridge.

............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

After breakfast Lilly met Dan outside. For she saw that there was now a black halter and reins attached to Chester's head, and Dan was busy sliding a red cloth that resembled a saddle onto his back. "What are you doing?" Lilly asked him.

"Squirrelback is the easiest way to travel." he began. "A lot quicker than walking that's for sure."

"Whoa,.. wait a minute hold on a second there. Are you saying that you actually expect me to climb up onto this thing?" Lilly questioned him.

"Yeah, sure, why not?" he wondered.

"Well it's just that I have never actually ridden a squirrel before. In my world we ride horses." she told him.

"What's a ___" he began.

"It's a unicorn without a horn!" she exclaimed abruptly before he could finish his question.

Dan chuckled. "A unicorn without a horn now that's pretty funny there." he said.

"It's true!" she cried indignantly.

"Sorry Lil, I didn't mean to laugh at you,.. but I guess we really have come from two entirely different worlds." he said before he turned around and Chester bent down and allowed him to mount. "But the way I see it is that you have two choices. One, you cold come with me and stay in Fairytopia as long as you want to,.. or two, you could stay here and risk being banished from it forever." he told her. "And really, how different is it from riding a horse?" he asked before he reached out to her and offered her his hand.

Lilly took a deep breath before she grabbed ahold of it and he hoisted her up onto the squirrels back behind him. "Oh and one more word of advice." he began while she wrapped her arms around his middle. "You might want to hold on tight." he advised her before Chester reared up onto his hind legs. "Hiyo Chester! Away!" he exclaimed with a tap of his reins before Chester let out a rather loud squeak and then cantered away. Lilly was a little more than pleasantly surprised to discover that Dan had been right. It wasn't all that different than cantering on the back of a horse. A wide grin stretched a crossed her face while the wind blew through her hair as they galloped over the dirt and the grass.

Dan glanced down at Lilly and smiled warmly at her when he realized that she was enjoying herself. For he had not even turned eighteen yet (which was somewhere around seven hundred and fifty in leprechaun years) but he suddenly felt this warm sensation inside his heart and he silently vowed that he was going to protect this little girl and look after her as if she were his own. Lilly also found to her delight that now that it was lighter and she actually had a chance to look around and view it that she could see more of the Enchanted Forest. Fairies of all shapes and sizes (and even genders) flew together circling the air.

"That's a fairy pack." Dan began. "Leprechauns are the only species of fairies that can't fly by the way." he told her.

"Wow." Lilly began. "I've never seen male fairies before. I didn't even know that there was such a thing." she told him.

"They're called hunters." he told her.

"Why?" she asked him.

"Because that's what they typically do,.. hunt. They trap bugs and spiders and lizards and kill them for food. Then they bring them home to their families." he explained.

"Oh I see." Lilly began. "Sort of like spiders."

"Yeah, sort of, but they generally trap them in leaves and nets,.. not webs." he told her and while they continued traveling through the forest, Lilly caught sight of a doe and her fawn, some chipmunks, rabbits, and other squirrels. She even caught sight of a mare unicorn and her foal which aside from the phoenix that traveled over the trees, (making a very triumphant screeching noise) that was the most beautiful thing that she had ever seen. Both of the unicorns were pure white in color all over their fur, but the mare had a beautiful pink mane while the foal didn't have one at all yet and the horn protruding from his forehead was more like a little bump while his mother had a very large and long horn protruding from hers.

"When do they usually get their horns?" Lilly asked him.

"Usually about the time they turn two. Or that's when they get their permanent ones anyway. They get their novice horns when they turn a year and a half. They're a lot softer and less threatening. Then they shed them by using the trunks of the willow trees before getting their permanents. Not like the equawks." he said.

"The what!?" she cried in bewilderment and disbelief as Dan chuckled.

"Well that's a first. Now you're the one who's confused." he said while he glanced over at her and smiled brightly.

"Very." she began. "So what are they?" she inquired.

"Well picture this. They've got the body of a rather large unicorn, but they've got paws instead of hooves. They've also got gigantic wings and beaks, but the tail of a dragon. They also come in a variety in colors but usually they're white with black spots." he explained. "Oh yeah, they've also got a horn but theirs protrudes from their nose not their forehead." he added. "And their horn is short and fat not long and skinny like the unicorns." he told her.

"Wow, it sure sounds like quite the creature. Do any of them live in the Enchanted Forest?" she wondered.

"Oh no, it's much too warm for them down here. They live up in the mountains near Satopulous." he replied.

"Satopulous? Does that mean that they're evil creatures then?" she asked him.

"I don't know." he replied with a shrug. "I never actually met one of them so I couldn't tell you. And I never could either. Leprechauns aren't equipped to handle snowy climates. We would probably freeze to death." he told her before they finally made it out of the forest and that's when Lilly caught a very familiar sight. For there, just about fifteen to twenty feet in front of her was the exact same beach that she had seen in her dream.

Chapter Eleven; The Sea of Tears

Chester came to an abrupt halt in the sand. Lilly gulped as she saw the crashing waves and heard them hitting the shore. "I'm not sure about this. Maybe I should just go home. After all, I'm not a very good swimmer and right now I'm the size of a flea." she said.

"Don't worry Lil, you don't have to be a champion swimmer. Besides, I will be right there with you. I promise." Dan reassured her with a warm and loving smile before he dismounted and lifted her up by her waist and then sat her back down on the ground again beside him. Then she took ahold of his hand and he led her towards the ocean. She removed her shoes and socks and once again she felt the squishy sand in-between her toes. A wide grin stretched a crossed her face for this time it wasn't a dream. She was really here. A warm breeze blew through her hair as she placed both of her feet in the water and waded out a little ways.

"Be careful Lilly don't go too far." Dan warned her but it already had been too late. For a gigantic wave crashed over her body and swept her away. "LILLY!!!" Dan shouted frantically as he watched his friend disappear and felt his old green Irish heart pound up against his chest while he raced into the water and then jumped into save her. He took a deep breath and dove under the water but he couldn't find her anywhere. When he had to come to the surface again for air, he realized that his worst fears must have come true. He had lost her. He was almost certain of it. Just when he had promised himself that he would take care of her.

However as he turned his head he caught sight of a beautiful mermaid that had come to shore. She was a blonde like Lilly and had a blue tail with a matching top. She held something fairly tiny in the palm of her hand. That's when Dan realized what or rather who it was,.. "Lilly." he said to himself before leaping out of the water again and hurrying towards her. "Lilly!! Lilly!!" he called as the mermaid gave a rather loud gasp of astonishment and quickly turned her head towards him. "It's alright, she's my friend!" he exclaimed before he took her out of his hand and laid her down on top of the sand in front of him.

"Come on Lil, please don't be dead. You have to wake up! I don't know how to do CPR!" he exclaimed breathing heavily.

"Bring the girl over to me." the mermaid said before Dan looked back over at her. "I can save her." she assured him. Dan wasn't sure whether or not he should trust her, but he decided that it was the only option that he had. "Are you sure?" he asked her as the mermaid silently nodded before he picked Lilly up again and cradled her body inside his arms before hurrying her over to her and then lying her back down on the sand in front of her. "You better stand back just in case." she told him while rubbing her hands together creating static electricity through them. "It's been known to cause a few side effects here and there." she warned before placing two of fingertips down on top of Lilly's chest giving it a slight jolting zap.

Dan waited for a few seconds before Lilly's eyes shot open and sitting up she started coughing up water. "Lilly." he began before he pulled her inside his arms and embraced her tightly. "Thank the queen you're alive. You scared me so much. I thought I lost you." he told her and it wasn't until he pulled back away from her that she noticed that he was crying.

"Dan,.. you're crying." she began with uncertainty. "I thought that nobody ever cried or felt sadness in Fairytopia." she said as Dan smiled warmly at her and sniffed.

"That's because I'm not sad. I'm quite the opposite actually. I'm happy. Happy and relieved." he told her while placing a hand upon her cheek and resting it there while gazing into her eyes before turning to look back over at the mermaid. "I can never thank you enough." he told her.

"It was the least that I can do for Sophia." she said.

"You know her??" Lilly questioned before she nodded.

"Oh yes she's a good friend of mine." she responded.

"Mine too." Lilly replied. "Actually, Dan and I were just about to start looking for her." she explained.

"That would make sense since she was looking for you." the mermaid began. "By the way, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Claire." she told her.

"Claire. That's a very pretty name." Lilly said.

"Thank you, I've always liked it. Lilly is a very pretty name too. Yes I just spoke with Sophia yesterday and she told me all about her new human friend. She had a hunch that you would come here and seek her out and it looks like her hunch was correct." Claire said with a giggle. "Well, I hate to cut things short but I really must be getting back in the water now before I dry out. It was nice meeting you both." she told them before she leapt up into the air and dove back down into the sea again with a friendly wave and humongous splash.

"This place never ceases to amaze me." Lilly began. "My life was saved by a mermaid and my new best friends are a fairy and a leprechaun." she finished as Dan stifled a laugh.

"Trust me Lil, you haven't see anything yet." he told her before he dug something shiny and silvery out of his pocket. "Oh, that reminds me. I want you to have this." he told her before he unhooked the two ends and then tied it around her neck.

"Oh. Thank you." she began. "What is it?"

"It was my sister's." he told her.

"Oh I see. Molly's or Shannon's?" she wondered.

"Neither of them. It was my other little sister's,.. Brianna. We called her Breezy." he told her.

"Oh really where is she?" Lilly asked him but that's when suddenly he took a deep breath and sighed heavily.

"She died. She was crushed by a human." he began. "The family doesn't like talking about it too much because the memory of it still hurts." he explained.

"Oh I see. Then I really don't want to take this away from you if__" Lilly began as she started unhooking the necklace and then slid it back off the top of her head.

"No it's alright. She would have wanted you to have it. She was a real sweet little girl,.. just like you actually. That's why I want you to keep it. You remind me of her a lot." he told her with a wide grin.

"Are you sure that it's alright?" she inquired.

"I guarantee it." he assured her. "Come on turn around." he instructed before she instantly obeyed and then spun around holding up her hair while he placed it back around her neck and hooked it again.

"Thanks." she told him.

"You're welcome." he told her before he took ahold of her hand and kissed the back of it. "Come on let's go. Now that you washed yourself in the Sea of Tears, we can go after Sophia." he said while he hoisted her back up onto Chester's back and then they rode away together down the beach.

Chapter Twelve; The Cave of Nightmares

"I'm really sorry if this sounds like I'm being a pain in the neck when I ask you this but,.. are we there yet?" Lilly questioned her friend with a groan while Dan just simply chuckled.

"Almost, but first we've got to make it through The Cave of Nightmares first." he told her.

"The what!?" she exclaimed out of pure bewilderment, astonishment and disbelief.

"The Cave of Nightmares. That's where all of the bad dreams in Fairytopia go. If the dream catching fairies receive a report of a bad dream, they take it to the cave since it goes against the contract of our land. And just to be sure that it never escapes and sees the light of day again, it is guarded by a fire breathing dragon that's been forced to live there for a thousand years." he told her.

"That's it!" Lilly exclaimed before she pulled back the reins and immediately brought Chester to a halt. "I'm out of here!" she exclaimed before she quickly dismounted the squirrel's back and turned around.

"Wait Lilly, you can't!" Dan cried before she quickly spun back around to face him and placed her hands upon her hips.

"Why not? What's to stop me?" she questioned him curtly.

"The fact that you're a quarter of an inch tall." he told her.

"Oh yeah, good point." she said. "But I can't go in there! I'll turn into dragon dung!" she cried as Dan laughed again.

"No you won't." he told her.

"Of course I will I'm smaller than his boogers!" she exclaimed but he just simply grinned at her.

"Haven't you forgotten one thing?" he began. "I'm a leprechaun and I have given you three wishes." he reminded her.

"Alright then, make me big again." she told him.

"I already told you that I can't do that. The shrinking spell has no antidote you're going to have to just wait until it wears off." he said.

"Alright, then what can I do to stop the dragon from eating me?" she wondered.

"There's one thing that scares a dragon more than anything else. A knight in shining armor. A knight with a sword." he told her.

"Don't be ridiculous!" Lilly protested. "I'm just a kid! I don't know how to battle a dragon! Especially when he's a hundred times bigger than me!" she exclaimed.

"You don't have to." Dan began. "You only have to make him think that you're going to. You know just by looking like you're threatening. Besides, I personally think that you're giving up on yourself way too easily. I have faith in you." he told her with a warm and loving smile.

"How can you!? You just met me yesterday!" Lilly cried.

"I know. But I have faith in Princess Sophia. And if she has faith in you and believes that you might be able to save Fairytopia, then I am certainly not one to doubt her." he told her.

"Well,.. alright. Make me a knight then. That is, that's my first wish." she said while he continued smiling at her.

"Alright then, turn around. Slowly that is." he instructed as she rolled her eyes and reluctantly obeyed him before he raised his hand up into the air and then curled his fingers. "With all of the magic in my soul, the luck of the Irish in my heart, and all the power of Fairytopia, I bring you courage. A knight forever more you shall be." he said when all of a sudden her clothes began to vanish and were suddenly replaced by shining, glittering, silvery armor and then suddenly magic golden fairy dust made a sword appear inside her left hand and a red and gold shield in the other. "There. Now you look like a real knight Lilly Jacobs." he told her while gazing at her lovingly.

"Really? I don't feel like one though." she said.

"Relax. You'll be just fine." he assured her. "Red and gold are the colors of Fairytopia. Red for the blood that will be shed once Jessica is finally thrown into the lake of fire, and gold for the heart of our queen. They both will protect you now and bring you good fortune." he told her before he grabbed ahold of her hand and pulled her back onto Chester's back behind him before they rode into the cave together.

"I'm not sure about this." Lilly said nervously. "I can't even see anything." she told him when suddenly she heard a noise that sounding like snoring. With that Dan snapped his fingers.

"Let there be light!" he exclaimed when all of a sudden all of the torches on the wall of the cave surrounding them lit up and Lilly found herself nose to nose with a purple dragon. Its skin was all bumpy and scaly and it had a pair of two red horns on the top of his head and a couple of gigantic purple leathery wings on the top of his back. He had a very long and skinny and spikey tail and four rather large clawed feet. That's when all of a sudden his eyes shot open and suddenly she found herself staring inside his icy blue eyes. Lilly gulped as the dragon started snarling at her.

"Help." she squeaked out in a very small voice.

"Run!!!" Dan hollered before he grabbed ahold of her hand and the two of them started racing towards the exit. The dragon opened his wings and let out a rather large screech while Lilly and Dan continued breathing frantically. Just as they made it out of the cave Lilly heard a bark and a petrified squeal and quickly turned her head and looked over her shoulder.

"Oh no, we forgot Chester." she said before she quickly turned around and with her sword clutched safely inside her she raced back inside.

"Lilly!!" Dan cried. "I swear on me sister's grave, I lost her once, and I don't plan on doing it again!" he exclaimed before he started running after her. Lilly finally skidded to a stop and tilted her head back with a rather loud and astonished gasp while she watched the dragon chomping his sharp teeth down on top of the squirrel's body.

"Chester!!" Lilly shrieked as the dragon finally caught sight of her and spat the squirrel out and let out a triumphant roar and blew a jet of fire out of his mouth. She noticed that a thick black collar was around the creatures neck and connected to a long thick black chain. "Come on Chester we've got to go." she told him. "We've got to get out of here." she said tapping her knees while the squirrel struggled to get back up onto his feet.

"Lilly!" Dan cried while she hurried back over to him and embraced him as Chester finished limping out of the cave.

"Dan, Chester's hurt. You've got to do something." she told him before he took a deep breath and then knelt down while the squirrel collapsed at his feet and then lifted his head back up and sadly looked into his eyes.

"I'm sorry Lil, I don't think that there's anything that I can do. He's hurt too badly." he told her before suddenly Lilly burst into tears.

"What!? No! There has to be something you can do to save him! This is supposed to be a happy place remember!? First your sister, now Chester? How can things get any worse!?" she hollered before he took another deep breath and sighed heavily.

"Unfortunately you hit the nail right on the head. It's supposed to be a happy place. But just like in your world, sometimes things happen that breaks the contract." he told her while she watched the squirrel lay his head back down and breathe his last before she continued to sob and then he stood back up and put his arm around her.

"It's all my fault." she sobbed. "I shouldn't have left him." she said choking on her tears while he embraced her tightly and gently rubbed her back.

"Shhh,.. it's alright. It's alright." he whispered while resting his head against hers. "You were a very brave little girl just then. It took a lot of guts doing what you did. Not every little girl would face a dragon. Especially one smaller than a peanut." he told her smiling lovingly down at her while feeling his heart counting to beat steadily up against his chest.

"We have a story in my world." she began with a sniff. "About a boy going up against a giant. So I figured if he could have enough courage to, why couldn't I?" she questioned.

"There you see? You're a lot braver and stronger than you realize." he told her before he softly kissed the top of her head. "Now come on, let's go. We have to find Princess Sophia." he told her as he took her arm and started leading her away but Lilly quickly stopped him.

"No wait!" she exclaimed. "I just can't leave him here like this. We have to at burry him." she said.

"Alright. Come on. I know the perfect place." he told her.

Chapter Thirteen; Love at First Sight

Dan and Lilly finished burying Chester at the bottom of an enormous grassy hill. Dan finally finished his grave by placing a stone on top of it. "There. All done." he said.

"It looks nice." Lilly began. "But I sure wish that we had flowers to decorate it with." she told him before she even realized what she had been saying.

"Done." he told her before he raised his right hand and wiggled his fingers making some very pretty pink tulips grow right out from underneath the ground.

Lilly bit her lip. "Oops." she began before she covered her mouth with her hand. "I said the magic words didn't I?" she questioned.

"Yes, but you said them for the right reason. You've still got one wish left, and I'm sure that Chester would have really appreciated it." he replied before he placed an arm around her and she leaned her head upon his shoulder. A few moments later he pulled away. "Come on, we're almost there now. This way to the castle." he told her while they both started to turn around. "Lilly Jacobs, I can now officially welcome you to Fairytopia." he told her with a grin before holding his arm out in front of him while a gigantic white gate started slowly opening in front of them. "Now that you've washed in the Sea of Tears, you're free to enter." he told her as a wide stretched a crossed her face while she heard heavenly trumpets sounding inside her mind.

"This is absolutely brilliant." she said while slowly walking towards the entrance as Dan smiled at her affectionately, but before she could set foot inside the beautiful garden gates all of a sudden a Northern Hawk Owl swooped down out of the sky was a loud screech and lifted her into the air by its talons.

"Oh no, not again." Dan to himself. "Lilly!!" he shouted before he started chasing after her as she started to scream.

"This is it." Lilly began uneasily. "Now I really am going to die!" she wailed as the bird carried her higher and higher up into the sky towards the sun. However just when she thought that the bird was going to eat her it released her. Lilly screamed even louder as she fell through the air, expecting to meet her death as soon as she hit the ground. However she was pleasantly surprised and relieved when she fell onto a soft white cushiony pillow instead. Lilly felt the top of her head as she slowly started to sit up. "Whoa." she began while she started looking around. "Where am I?" she wondered aloud to herself as she suddenly realized that she was in a plaza. Beautiful flowers were sprouting up out of the ground all around her in beautiful garden beds. In the center of the plaza was an enormous fountain and a stoned cherub on top of it with water flowing out of his mouth.

From what Lilly could make out of it, there were all different colored pebbles at the bottom of the fountain and a bunch of different kinds of coins leading her to believe that people (or rather fairies and maybe even leprechauns) had made wishes in it. That's when suddenly she tilted her head back and saw a big beautiful crystal castle standing behind her. That's when suddenly a fairy with bright blue hair, dark blue eyes, and wearing a silvery white robe with a matching sparkling crown and black flats upon her feet flew out of the castle doors. Lilly noticed that she had sparkly silver wings just like Sophia had.

That's when Lilly realized that this must have been Sophia's mother and the queen of Fairytopia. "Maria?" Lilly questioned with uncertainty as the fairy suddenly gasped and then quickly turned her head over to look at her.

"It's a child." she said with a gasp in that same thick English accent that Lilly remembered Sophia having. "A human child." she whispered with bewilderment and disbelief while flying backwards into a corner of the castle shielding herself.

"It's alright, I'm not going to hurt you." Lilly reassured her before she slowly got to her feet. "I'm a friend of your daughter's." she told her. "She sent me here. My name is Lilly. Lilly Jacobs. I'm the dream interpreter and savior of Fairytopia." she explained and that's when suddenly as if on cue Sophia flew out of the castle.

"Lilly?" she questioned while a smile slowly started to emerge a crossed her face.

"Sophia!" Lilly exclaimed as her face suddenly lit up with excitement before the fairy dropped down onto the ground and the two girls raced over towards one another before Sophia embraced her tightly and spun her around in a circle.

"What are you doing here? And why are you so,..."

"Tiny?" Lilly finished for her.

"Well yeah. I wasn't going to say it but since you said it for me, what happened to you?" she wondered.

"I got shrunk by a leprechaun." Lilly told her in reply.

"Oh no! That's awful! Maybe they're really as bad as Mum says they are after all." she said.

"Oh no, you've got it all wrong. It was an accident. He's my friend." Lilly told her with a grin while taking her hands inside her own.

"Friends!? With our natural born enemy!?" Maria cried as she slowly fluttered her wings towards them. "You see Sophia? This is why humans aren't meant to be on our land in the first place." she told her daughter with a slow shake of her head. "We've already got one witch to deal with, and we certainly don't need another one." she said.

"Oh come on Mum! Lilly isn't a witch. She's my friend! And I trust her judgement. So if she says that she's friends with a leprechaun then I believe her." Sophia told her.

"Speaking of Dan he must be worried sick about me. He's really gotten attached to me you know." Lilly said.

"I'll take you to him." Sophia told her before she hovered off of the ground. "Just tell me where to find him." she instructed.

"Really Sophia! Is this any way for a princess to act!?" her mother hollered while Lilly gripped Sophia's hand tightly as they flew away into the distance. "Sophia Matilda Angela Rose you get back here!!" she shouted angrily but it was already too late since they both were already way too far away to hear her.

"Keep an eye out for him when you see him." Sophia told her friend as Lilly grinned loving the sensation of the flight while taking in the sights and smells all around her. She could see everything from up there, and she loved the scent of all the beautiful flowers that smelled like one of the sweet perfumes that her mother had. Lilly tried very hard not to think about her mother because although she was starting to miss her, she wanted to stay in Fairytopa with Dan and Sophia as long as possible.

That's when all of a sudden she caught sight of her friend and pointed. "There he is! I see him!" she cried before Sophia turned around and flew straight towards the ground. "Dan!!" Lilly called out through her hands before he suddenly stopped and quickly turned his head. "I'm over here! I've got Sophia! I found her!" she exclaimed before Sophia suddenly landed and Lilly landed besided her.

"Oh Lilly." Dan began breathing a sigh of relief. "Thank heavens you're alright." he told her before he rushed towards her and threw his arms tightly around her and once again felt his heart pounding against his chest. "I wish that you would stop doing this to me. I'm over seven hundred years old." he told her before he kissed her cheek and then took ahold of her face inside his hands. "And you just about gave me a heart attack. You know that?" he questioned her as he gazed into her eyes unaware that Sophia had been staring at him and studying him from a difference. That's when suddenly she cleared her throat and Dan slowly raised his head and met her gaze.

"Uh,.. hullo." she began while giving him a slight wave.

"You're Princess Sophia." he realized before a moment of silence fell between them.

"Awkward,.." Lilly said before Dan placed a hand over her mouth and covered it before gently pushing her aside.

"Yep, and you must be Dan Lilly's new friend. She was just telling me all about you." Sophia told him when suddenly Dan felt his cheeks turn pink.

"Uh yes." he squeaked before clearing his throat inside his fist. "I mean yes I am." he told her before Lilly rolled her eyes and simply shook her head before turning around and walking away unnoticed by her two friends.

"You know, I can see why Lilly likes you. You're kind of cute for a leprechaun." she told him with a giggle before fluttering her eyelashes and planting a kiss on his cheek before his face turned even redder.

"Oh good grief!" Lilly exclaimed throwing her arms up into the air before she sat down upon a rock and folded her arms. "I'm starving, when are we going to eat? I haven't eaten for hours." she complained before Dan's face changed back to his usual creamy peach color.

"Kids, what are you going to do with them?" he questioned her with a nervous chuckle while giving a shrug.

"I know right? They certainly can be a handful. Do you have any yourself?" she wondered.

"No, not really. I mean Lilly's the closest thing I've got right now." he told her when suddenly Lilly's eyes widened. Did Dan really just say what she thought he said? "I mean, I haven't known her for that long, but she really is just the sweetest little thing." he told her.

"I know she is. And not only that but I believe that she has the ability to accomplish great things." Sophia said.

"The only great thing that I want to accomplish right now is lunch." Lilly grouched while slowly turning their head away from them before Dan and Sophia both busted out laughing as they turned over to look at her.

"Come on you two, I'll take you back up to my castle and get you something to eat there." Sophia told them.

"Uh don't remember what your mother said? She made it perfectly clearly that she doesn't approve of you associating with a leprechaun." Lilly told her but Sophia just simply smiled at her.

"Don't worry Lil, I'm sure that once my mother finds out how nice and charming Dan is she'll change her mind about him. What do you say to that Danny boy?" she questioned while leaning her face close to his and hovering up into the air in front of him. That's when suddenly Dan blushed again. For the first time in his long life, he didn't mind what she called him.

Chapter Fourteen; The Confession

Once Sophia flew Lilly and Dan back to the castle, she took them inside the throne room. Lilly had never even seen or heard too much about the king fairy (since he was the king she wasn't really sure if he was still considered a hunter) before. He had rather long and thick black hair, chocolate brown eyes, and was wearing a long dark fuzzy red robe with a golden crown on top of his head. Unlike Maria's and Sophia's, his wings were transparent and rather plain and ordinary. He sat silently on his crystal throne next to his wife.

"Mum, Dad," Sophia began while she zipped over to them speedily and hovered up in the air in front of them. "There's somebody that I want you to meet." she told them before she quickly turned around to face Dan and smiled warmly at him before giving him a slight nod. Dan knelt down on top of one knee and bowed his head.

"King David and Queen Maria, I realize that although it might be rather difficult and even impossible for me to earn your trust, I hope and pray that it will happen eventually. I do not wish to harm either of you or your beautiful daughter." he told them before he lifted his head and looked at them as Sophia blushed.

"You really think I'm beautiful?" she questioned him as he smiled lovingly at her.

"Exceedingly beautiful Princess." he told her before suddenly the queen spoke up.

"I see leprechaun. And what is your name my dear sir?" she asked him.

"Daniel." he began. "Daniel O'Reilly." he told her when all of a sudden she smiled at him.

"Well then Daniel O' Reilly, as long as it's alright with my husband, I think that a trial process might not be such a bad idea after all." she told him before she and her husband turned to look at each other. David smiled and nodded at his wife before they turned back over to look at him.

"Very well Daniel O'Reilly. After all although I might be king of Fairytopia, I am not by any means an exception to my own law of not making assumptions about other fairies before I get a chance to know them personally myself." he told him.

"Thank you your majesty." Dan said before he stood back up.

"And speaking of getting to know somebody personally, I just wanted to take this time to humbly apologize to Lilly Jacobs." Maria said as she and Dan both turned over to look at her and smiled. "It seems like my daughter was right about you after all. I think that you just might have greatness in you after all." she told her as Lilly grinned proudly.

"Thank you your majesty." she told her.

"You and your friend may call me Maria." she began. "For any friend of Sophia's is a friend of mine. Now, what do you say that I get the cooking fairies to make you something to eat? Do you like rabbit stew?" she inquired.

"I don't know I never had it before." Lilly replied with a shrug, but at least it sounded better to her than snake eggs and lizard guts. At this point she was so hungry that she would have agreed to anything though even that. "But it sounds good." she added as Maria smiled at her and then clapped her hands together. A few seconds later a fairy that resembled a butler flew into the room.

"Jacob, would you please show our fine friends to their table?" she inquired before he gave a slight bow.

"Yes my queen." he told her before he showed Lilly and Dan out of the room and Sophia speeded away after them.

...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

After lunch, the three friends stepped back outside into the royal gardens. "So, what do you guys think of the palace?" Sophia questioned them.

"It's great, but it's made out of glass." Lilly began. "Aren't you afraid that you're going to break something?" she wondered.

"Or everything." Dan added with a grin.

"No, not really." Sophia began with a grin. "But I guess that's because I've lived here my whole entire life with my sisters." she replied.

"Really?" Lilly questioned her. "I didn't know that you had sisters." she said.

"Yeah they're Anastasia, Isabelle and Annabelle. Isabelle and Annabelle are twins but I call them Izzy and Ana." Sophia told her. "I'm the youngest of the four of us and Ana's the oldest so she's first in line to be queen after our mother. That is, if Izzy or I don't get married first." she explained. "I doubt that I will ever get married, I've never even been in love before so I don't even know what that feels like." she said before she took a deep breath and sighed heavily.

"Me neither." Dan begun. "But I hear that it's very powerful."

"My mother always tells me that love is the closest thing we have to magic in our world." Lilly said.

"I like that." Sophia began. "Do you miss your mother Lilly?" she questioned her but she just simply gave a shrug.

"I guess." she told her.

"She's probably really worried about you. Maybe we should try and find a way to make you your correct size so you can go home." Sophia suggested but Lilly simply just backed away from her.

"What!? Are you crazy! I can't go back there! She thinks that I'm a liar and a troublemaker! Besides, I have to help you guys defeat the witch remember?" she questioned her before she looked over at Dan. "And I really don't want to leave you guys. You're my friends, and you're the only people that care about me." she said before she turned around and ran away and that's when Dan and Sophia simply looked at each other.

"Should we draw straws?" Dan asked.

"Nah, why don't you just go talk to her. After all, she might have met me first but she has spent more time with you." Sophia told him before he nodded at her.

"Right. I'll be right back." he told her before he turned around and jogged around the corner after Lilly who was busy sitting down in front of the fountain with her back up against the wall. Dan stopped and looked at her before breathing a heavy sigh and then sat down next to her. "Are you alright Lil?" he asked her.

"No." she replied in a quiet voice as she breathed a deep and heavy sigh while staring down at the ground. "I feel awful about what happened at school, and for yelling at my mother like that. I didn't mean it when I told her that I hated her." she admitted.

"No. Of course you didn't. You're too much of a sweetheart to have meant something as awful as that. I'm sure that she understood that. Look, as you might have already noticed, my brothers and I don't exactly have the greatest relationship and we hardly ever get along. But despite our fights I know that deep down that we all really care about each other. And I know that you and your ma do too. Even though I've never met her, I highly doubt the fact that you still love her and that she loves you. I know that I love you and I haven't even known you for more than a day." he told her while smiling brightly at her and running his fingers through her hair.

"Really? You love me?" Lilly questioned while glancing up at him and looking into his eyes.

"Give me one reason why I wouldn't." he told her softly while continuing to smile at her and that's when he suddenly realized that he knew what it was like to be in love with somebody after all. Even if it wasn't in the romantic sense.

"I love you too. And Sophia. And that's why I don't want to ever leave Fairytopia." she told him.

"Don't worry Lil, we'll work something out." he assured her before he threw his arms around her and embraced her tightly.

You have given me my first introduction to male fairies April. Well done, your imagination is brilliant
:wave2

Thanks! as soon as I'm finished up with supper I'm going to post the next chapter. Would this be a book that you think that you and your friends would possibly be interested in if it does get published. I don't really think that it will make it all the way to the UK, I just hope that people would want to buy it. Awfully cute of the father/daughter relationship that is developing between Dan and Lilly isn't it? And the way that Dan and Sophia are flirting with each other. :)

I think it would be good for school children. You have this new idea of male fairies and friendly leprechauns . When you have finished the book you will need to go right through it again with an editing pen.

Good point, but there is a severe issue with this. I have to find another publishing company and I will explain why in my post that I made in the business section. :shame

Chapter Fifteen; Puffballs and Gardens

That's when all of a sudden Dan pulled Lilly back up onto her feet. "Come on, we better get back to Sophia before she starts wondering what's become of us." he told her when suddenly Lilly heard a noise that she had never heard before.

"Wait second,.. what is that?" she questioned as she got back down onto her knees before a tiny red mouse like creature bounced around the corner. It had long pointy ears and bright blue eyes with hardly any nose. It also had a tiny bowling shaped belly with a bit of fuzzy white fur on top of it. It didn't have any arms or legs, just a rather long and skinny furry red tail with a bit off a fluffy ball on the end of it. "Aww,.. it's kind of cute." she said while smiling affectionately at it as it blinked its enormous blue eyes back up at her.

"Puff??" It questioned her with uncertainty.

"Huh??" Lilly questioned it back.

"Puff!" it exclaimed happily with excitement.

"Is that your name? Puff??" she asked it with uncertainty before it continued bouncing up and down in front of her.

"Puff!! Puff!!" it cried before Lilly turned her head and glanced over at Dan for an explanation.

"I think I know what that is. It's a puffball." he told her.

"Puff!! Puff!!" the little red creature continued chanting while bouncing up and down at the same time.

"What's a puffball?" Lilly wondered.

"They're the little creatures that live in fairy gardens and eat all of the mushrooms and insects out of it. That's the reason that they're called puffballs. That's one of their favorite things to eat. Puffball mushrooms." he explained.

"Puff!!" the little puffball cried before Lilly quickly turned her head back over to look at it and it finally stopped bouncing and then started rubbing its head up against her shoulder. "Puff,.." it said again before closing its eyes and started to purr. Lilly smiled down at it as Dan smiled at her.

"Oh and they will do just about anything until you give them attention." he told her.

"I figured that much." she said before softly tickling him under the chin. "Well little guy, do you have a name?" she asked him when suddenly he stopped purring, lifted his head, and opened his eyes again.

"Puff??" he questioned her with uncertainty.

"Is that all you can say?" she asked him before he shook his head at her.

"No." he replied.

"Alright, so what's your name then?" she asked him.

"Puff." he answered before she giggled.

"I'm not sure whether or not that's your real name because you do like saying it an awful lot." she told him before he let out a rather loud happy coo. "But,.. it sounds like a good enough name to me. So, Puff it is then." she said while his ears twitched as they had whenever he was listening really intensely to her.

"Ooh,.. Puff likes that!" he cried with a quick nod.

"So you can say than more than syllable." Lilly realized with a nod before Puff started bouncing up and down again.

"Puff!" he cried proudly. "My name is Puff! Puff! Puff! Puff!" he exclaimed as Dan chuckled.

"I think he likes his new name. It looks like you found a new friend Lilly." he told her.

"L__L___Lilly!! Puff! Lilly! Friend!" the tiny little puffball exclaimed before landing back on the ground and leaning his head up against Lilly's shoulder closed his eyes again and started to purr. Dan smiled warmly down at the pair while Lilly stroked Puff's cheek.

"You sure are a cute little guy." she told him.

"Puff love Lilly." he told her while opening up his bright blue eyes again. "Lilly Puff friend." she said.

"Look Puff, I love you too and I'm really happy that we're friends but I don't think that I can keep you. I don't know the first thing about you other than you're extremely cute. I wouldn't know how to take care of you." she told him.

"Puff show Lilly how." he told her before he bounced around the corner.

"Wait Puff! Wait up!" she cried as she and Dan raced after him. When they finally had caught up to him he had found a tiny black spider on the ground and was curling his tail around it wrapping it up inside of it very tightly. Then he tilted his head back and tossed the small insect inside of his mouth and chewed it for a few moments before swallowing it in one entire gulp.

"Mmm,.." he began with a lick of his lips. "Yummy spider." he told her before Lilly made a face.

"Eww! You really do eat bugs! That is so gross!" she exclaimed. "How is it possible that something so cute can enjoy something so disgusting?" she inquired as Dan laughed.

"It isn't disgusting to him." he began.

"Puff love spiders!" Puff exclaimed before purring and rubbing up against Lilly's leg.

"Besides, that's the whole entire reason that the king and queen have him and the other puffballs in their garden in the first place. He keeps all of the bugs out of them." Dan explained.

"No bees." Puff began with a shake of his head. "Puff doesn't like bees. Bees sting Puff. Ouch!" he cried as Lilly giggled again.

"I just can't get over how cute you are." she told him. "Do you liked to be picked up?" she inquired as Puff nodded quickly.

"Yes. Puff up!" he replied while Lilly stifled another laugh and slowly bent down over onto the ground.

"Alright then, come on Puff." she told him.

"Thank you Lilly." he responded slowly while she held out the palm of her hand and with one great leap Puff landed on top of it and twitched his tail. "Careful of tail." he began. "Puff doesn't like it when it's pulled." he told her.

"Don't worry I won't pull it. I'll be careful I promise." she told him as he tilted his chin back and purred while she tickled it and closed his eyes. Then a few moments later she stopped and carried him back to Sophia.

Alright, I just have to ask this question. How adorable is Puff? :)

Cuties!! Are they all red or do they come in different colours?

They come in different colors. You're going to be meeting a yellow one very soon. But yes, they are just a bunch of cute little things. :) I really wish they were real because I really want one lol they even know how to (somewhat) talk.

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you all know that I haven't forgotten about continuing this story, I've just been really rather busy but Tessa, I wanted to tell you that I had intended on posting more tonight but my head unfortunately had other plans as it sort of hurts right now. :sad So, I'm really hoping that it will be better tomorrow and maybe somewhere in-between bike rides and waiting for my ride to pick me up to take me to dinner and then the movies I will be able to post. I can't promise nothing but cross your fingers! :crossed So sorry about the wait and inconvenience. :/

Have a lovely time April and hope you're soon feeling better..

Thanks, I am feeling a bit better now. I just woke up a little bit ago. My head doesn't hurt anymore, it just feels clouded, but I'm sure that will change once I'm up for a bit. I'm going to have myself an apple for breakfast and then take a shower since I'm going out tonight, and besides that, the steam does wonders for me. Hopefully I will get a chance to type later but I also want to get a chance to go outside and get some fresh air before my ride picks me up. I just can't wait for all of that yummy buttery movie popcorn after my delicious steak dinner! :popcorn Oh and of course I will get some kind of large drink to go with it, I'm just not sure what kind yet. I get a large drink so I can take it home and drink it the next day. Besides that, it's only like fifty cents extra. Sorry, not sure exactly what that is in UK currency though.
