In the book of Job, God makes reference to the big strong tail of the Bohiemeth which is as hard and straight as a cedar. In it's original Hebrew, it's actually referring to the males sexual organ. It has been translated as tail by modest interpreters.

Curious where you found the original meaning of the tail of the Behemoth that is described in Job 40:15-24.

Thanks for asking this! I will have to back track and say i was wrong about the tail also being translated as the males anatomy. My bad, and thank you for keeping me in check.

I have been fascinated by Job for a long, long time and have read it many times as well as a tremendous amount of commentary from various sources and backgrounds. Here is my favorite commentary (and much, much more). It is a difficult book because as a gentile, i was entering into a conversation that i was unaware existed. For example, we are familiar with our core Christian discussions that recycle. Well, the Jews have their set of deep discussions as well. Here is the book.

I have listened to many audio commentary from well known Rabbi's as well and the general consensus of Job as a literary work is that linguistically, it is difficult to translate because there are archaic Hebrew words only found in Job and nowhere else that even the best Hebrew scholars have a difficult time understanding their meaning and best guess a translation.

In addition, all Jewish scholars agree that Job has been altered in several places by pius scribes, and Job 40:17 is a prime example.

Here is the KJV
“He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.”

Here is a Jewish translation.
His tail hardens like a cedar; the sinews of his testicles are knit together.

In the KJV, moveth can also be translated as extended. Here is how the KJV could have translated this verse while still being linguistically correct and true to the Masoretic text.

He extends his tail like a cedar:

Tails don't extend... if your following... Also, the KJV renders the Hebrew word as stones (nice way of putting it) where the jews use the word testicles.

As is widely accepted by the Jewish community, they purport that Pius scribes altered the word from penis to tail due to their piety.

Hope this helps.

You know me as I had to go research this. Going off topic for a bit as I find this fascinating through out the different translations. It is a deeper study, but this is what I quickly found.

The Douay-Rheims Bible translated from the Latin Vulgate, Genesis - Job being published around 1610 uses the word testicle.

Noah Webster's Bible Translation, 1833, replaced archaic words from the KJV making simple grammatical changes to remove words he found offensive. He uses the word male organ.

The KJV and Jubilee Bible says stones. Other versions use the words thigh, muscles or nerves.

You can see some of the research I have done on the English translation of the Bible in the Bible 101 section of the classes section of the forum. The thread "game of thrones"is the title.
