Point one. It's important to understand that in Romans 9 call uses the Patriarchs Abraham Isaac and Jacob 2 proclaim that the way of righteousness by faith was for known and for elect by God long before the Mosaic Covenant Nation was formed through Moses. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob Israel

The Israeli's claim the land they now occupy the homeland of the Israelites while their great leaders were buried elsewhere; Israel, Isaac, Rebekah, Abraham, Leah and Sarah were not buried in the land we now call "Israel" but in a land called Canaan which was beyond the Jordan river.

Why is there such a disconnect from biblical history and the occupied land of today?

There never was a covenant Nation, and Moses is none other than the man who murders a man in the street. The Pharaoh sought to punish Moses for this murder but before the Pharaoh can catch Moses, Moses gathers his followers and flees, marking the beginning of the Exodus.

All Israel has been defined by Paul in chapter 9 to be those who believe in Christ as the seed promised to Eve and through Abraham(Sara's/isaac) miraculous birth (Mary as it's fulfillment). And it applies to those encountering God as they war for their Good soul and become sons of God like Jacob/Israel did and as John says in John 1:11-13. Later in rom 9, Paul says that the mercy of righteousness solely by faith extends to the former Israelites called gentiles by the Jews. And it likely includes Roman or Greek etc ancestored persons who believe as they are indistinguishable from Israelites by this time. And this was the purpose for the Assyrian dispersion as stated in Hosea 2.

So here we have a believing group who are leaving the national law of Moses and referred to as Israel. They are hounded and persecuted by those who do not believe. Now what about these persecutors? Are they cast off for not believing? Paul says no,

Then he explains that it was prophecied in deut 32:21 (rom 10:19) that God would provoke (some of them)'to jealousy unto emulation due their (the believers among the nations)vfulllness of the spirit of the living creator ,(gal 5:22) that was being experienced by non Jews.

This second chance given to the unbelieving Jews as they came to persecute and harass them and the Jews becoming jealous unto faith is the mystery which Paul doesn't want his first century readers to be ignorant of.

But not all of those witnessing the fullness of God in the believers of the gentiles will become emulative of their faith and leave Judaism for Christ. Bin fact likely not many, but enough. Those who do not believe will continue to hunt, persecute and harass and kill (,through Rome and by themselves) the believing sect.

So how are these who are already saved with regard to sin, be delivered from this persecution and harassment.?

The word So means in this manner. It is grammatically connected to the words as it is written and is thus referring to the coming of God as a deliverer that was prophecied in Isaiah ,59. And this removal of persecution by the judaizers was accomplished partly through the Roman armies as prophecied in deut 32:42.

A gentile who follows our Lord is NOT a Jew.
Paul was talking about the Jews who were broken off of the tree of God by unbelief and disobedience no longer being counted as Jews. See Romans 11.

I thought Romans 11 spoke of the gentiles being grafted in.

My wild olive tree is not changed into a souped up version to provide my limb the root sustenance I need, but grafted into the Jewish tree.

Grafting is grafting. From one tree to another. One branch is removed , a slit is made and a similar small limb is grafted in. Then the wild tree limb has a better root. Bud fits in here somewhere.

Correct. Your wild variety of olive is STILL a wild variety. And if you graft a lemon branch onto an orange tree it will still produce lemons and not oranges.

Not all folks of a group totally believe alike.

This whole thing of the gentile inclusion deals with some that did not want to deal with the gentiles.

Peter had to be convinced.
The circumcision party members were shocked.

Convincing ourselves and others of the one new man is tough.

Cornelius was not a regular gentile. He was a "God fearer." A gentile that was ALMOST a Jewish convert - everything except circumcision. They are written of very highly in the Talmuds.

You may have missed I was talking about the circumcision party people. I realize why the Jews explained how Cornelius had done favors for the Jews.

I also realize ( not discussed yet ), that there was no ceremony for the receiving of the Holy Spirit. Or for that matter no mention of Circumcision. There was a baptism ceremony.

This is a transition period so if he was circumcised, that practice later may have fallen out of practice. Onetime a coworker of Paul was circumcised and another time one was not.

Deciding how the one new man cam about is rarely discussed. I guess each group wants to maintain their roots. Knowing a gentile has no real in depth roots.
