I have had this is a study folder for quite a few years and am still working on it.
I want to put verses up from Revelation that come closest to or similar to those found in the OT.
And I would like others to add to them if they know of any.
One of my favorites concerns the song of Moses in Reve 15. Ironically the same chapter #occurs in Exodus.

I am using the ISA Interlinear for the translation:

Revelation 15:3

And they are singing the Song of Moses, the bond-servant of the God and the Song of the Lambkin<720> saying "great and marvelous the works of Thee Lord! the God, the Almighty.
Just and true the ways of Thee, the King of the saints" [*ages/*nations].

This is just so beautifull. Miriam also joins in after the parted Red Sea drowned the Egyptians:

Exodus 15:
1 Then Mosheh is singing and sons of Yisra'el this song to Yahweh
and they are saying to say of "I shall sing to Yahweh that to exalt He exalts. Horse and one riding of him He heaved into the sea [Reve 15:3]
2 Strength of me and melody of Yah. And He becoming to me for salvation.
This One El of me and I shall adore Him, Elohiym of father of me and I shall exalt Him"
21 And Miriam is responding to them "sing ye to Yahweh, that to be triumphant He is triumphant, horse and rider He heaved into Sea.

Deuteronomy 31:30
And Moses spake in the ears of all the congregation of Israel the words of this song, until they were ended.

Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak;
and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.
My doctrine shall drop as the rain,
my speech shall distil as the dew,
as the small rain upon the tender herb,
and as the showers upon the grass:
Because I will publish the name of the Lord:
ascribe ye greatness unto our God.
He is the Rock, his work is perfect:
for all his ways are judgment:
a God of truth and without iniquity,

just and right is he.

Deuteronomy 4:2
Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

Revelation 22:18-19

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Thank you for that thoughtful comment.
Here is a site that has helped me learn about this area of study.

THE SYMBOLISM IN BOOK OF REVELATION

One man studied and found 348 allusions (not illusions, Light) in Revelation from the Old Testament. You see the similarity in wording and the context mirrored in Revelation and the particular Old Testament story, and immediately can recognize the reference source! That's IF you know the bible well enough to even notice that.

95 of the 348 plain references used in Revelation as taken from the Old Testament are repeated in Revelation.
That makes about 250 Old Testament passages are cited. How many chapters are in Revelation? 22. That makes about TEN OLD TESTAMENT REFERENCES FOR EVERY CHAPTER! .....................
==============================
Now this is really awesome.
Note that both Ezekiel and John get taken by Spirit, Ezekiel to Jerusalem, and John to the Woman/Harlot the wilderness.

Ezekiel 8:3
He stretched out the form of a hand, and took me by a lock of my hair; and the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven, and brought me in visions of God to Jerusalem,
to the door of the north gate of the inner court, where the seat of the image of jealousy was, which provokes to jealousy. [Revelation 17:3]

Revelation 17:3
and he carried me away to a wilderness in the Spirit, and I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet-coloured beast, full of names of evil-speaking, having seven heads and ten horns, [Ezekiel 8:3]

Pulpit Commentary
Verse 3. - So he carried me away in the spirit; and he carried, etc. (cf. Revelation 1:10 and Revelation 21:10).
In the latter reference the analogy is sufficiently close to lead us to believe that it is intended. Into the wilderness; a wilderness, according to the Revised Version, which is the rendering of Wordsworth and others; but Alford strongly supports the Authorized Version rendering, notwithstanding the absence of the Greek article (see Alford, in loc.).

Some commentators have thought that the "wilderness" signifies the desolation which is the lot of the harlot (see ver. 16; Revelation 18:2, 19; also Jeremiah 51:26). But we can hardly avoid the conclusion that the "wilderness" here is that spoken of in Revelation 12:6, 14, which is symbolical of this world, particularly when we remember that the "wilderness" in both cases is the abode of a woman, who moreover is representative of the Church;

though in Revelation 12. she represents the Church of God as a whole, persecuted by Satan, and in this place the woman is representative of the faithless part of the Church (see also below on "beast"). Vitringa, referring to Isaiah 21:1, and Revelation 17:1, 15, and Ezekiel 20:35, arrives at a similar conclusion; it is a "wilderness of the people." And I saw a woman. There is no article, but this vision, occurring immediately after the words of ver. 1, "I will show thee... the great harlot," identifies this woman with the harlot of ver. 1. This woman represents the faithless portion of the Church (see on ver. 1); that part which, following after worldly things, has thereby rendered to the beast the love and honour due to God alone. This woman is not identical with the woman of Revelation 12. The latter represents the faithful, the former the faithless, part of the Church

Back in Revelation 14:3 we read about those before the throne of God singing a new song that no man could learn. They who are singing this song are those whose bodies have returned back to the dust of the ground and their spirit has gone back to God who gave it as they sing the song of triumph as they have been redeemed of the Lord, Ecclesiastes 12:7; 1 Corinthians 15:55 . Those who are in Christ that are still alive during these last seven vial judgments of God will soon learn the song of Moses as God makes an end to all things here on earth and then we will be with the Lord forever before His glorious throne, Exodus 15:1.

The book of Revelation are those unveiling visions that Christ gave the angel to give to John in the book of Revelations while he was in the Spirit that day being a prisoner on the isle of Patmos for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

The book of Revelations are all the prophecies taught in the OT and the coming of Christ taught in the NT all rolled up in one being the mysteries of God revealed to those who have Spiritual eyes and ears to hear what the Spirit of God is teaching us. Matthew 24 is much like an outline Jesus gave us to understand the deeper mysteries in Revelations.

The Old Testament is how the book of revelation was to be understood (decifered) in that time period, because they didn’t really have the New Testament yet, although they had some letters it still wasn’t complete.

IOW, the Old Testament held the key to unlocking the symbolic references in the book of revelation.

In addition, it was written to the Church in a time of intense persecution that showed them who they were suffering for;

Who Jesus Christ is; The Lord God and not just some man who started some new religion. They were suffering as martyrs for the Lord Himself.

Thks for that informative post JLB

Both Joshua 6 and Revelaton 8 mention 7 Priests/Messengers and 7 trumpets in which the walls of both Jericho and Babylon the great fall.

Jericho is mentioned a few times in the NT, including the book of Hebrews, along with Messengers and trumpets.

Joshua 6:4
and seven priests do bear seven trumpets of the jubilee before the Ark, and on the seventh day ye compass the City seven times, and the priests blow with the trumpets,
Matt 24:31/Hebrews 11:30/Revelation 8:6]

Hebrews 11:30
by faith the walls of Jericho did fall, having been surrounded for seven days;

Revelation 8:6
And the seven Messengers having the seven trumpets make ready themselves, that they should be trumpeting
[Joshua 6:4]

===============================
Some interesing info on the trumpets:

The Sound Of The Trumpet

For if the Trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare for battle?
(1 Corinthians 14:8).

The Apostle Paul used the Roman military trumpet as a metaphor for spiritual battle. First-century historian Josephus wrote that the Roman army did nothing, except by trumpet signals. He listed three specific trumpet sounds, all of which can be devotionally applied.

The first trumpet was a signal to prepare to depart. "Now when they are to go out of their camp, the trumpet gives a sound."(1) The Bible believer should be ready to depart swiftly for any field of conflict as ordered, always ready to fight the good fight of faith (1 Tim. 6:12; 2 Tim. 4:7).

The second trumpet was a signal to form up: "Then do the trumpets sound again, to order them to get ready for the march."(1) At this stage, a believer should have on the whole armor of God. The Lord wants skilled warriors, lined up with others, who will do battle against the wiles of the Devil (Eph. 6:11).

The third trumpet sound was the order to march: "Then do the trumpets give a sound a third time, that they are to go out."(1) Some have suggested that this is the equivalent of "the last trumpet" that Paul referred to in 1 Corinthians 15:52 concerning the Rapture of the church: Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed--in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed (1 Cor. 15:51-52).

This trumpet may also point to the personal resolve of a believer to march out to serve Christ, to stand against all challenges to God's kingdom, and to be willing to endure hardships like a good soldier (2 Tim. 2:3).

Josephus also noted that before the army marched out, the soldiers raised their right hands high and shouted in martial fury, "We are ready!" Are you?

Miscellaneous:
Read about the trumpet (shofar) and its use in The Holiday Of Rosh Hashanah.
The shofar - trumpet - is usually made from a rams horn.

Revelation 8 Commentary- Plagued by Trumpets

The Roman Assault on Israel Began around the Feast of Trumpets Hence the Seven Trumpets of Revelation—Thus Began the Jewish War.

In A.D. 66 while Judea was aflame in bloodshed, riot and revolt, Rome responded by sending the 12th legion in addition to thousands of auxiliaries from neighboring kingdoms. These troops, as if orchestrated by God, arrived in Jerusalem in the Jewish month of Tishri, a month that begins with the Feast of Trumpets. Called the Day of Judgment, it is on this day that trumpets sound the somber days of atonement and final judgment (Leviticus 23:24, Numbers 29:1). Thus began the Jewish War.3

Reve 18:8 and Exo 40....the glory/Shechinah of the Lord.........
Note in Revelation 15:8 that no one was able to enter into the Sanctuary [most versions had "temple", which is an incorrect rendering].

3485: ναός, ναοῦ, ὁ (ναίω to dwell), the Sept. for הֵיכָל, used of the temple at Jerusalem, but only of the sacred edifice (or sanctuary) itself, consisting of the Holy place and the Holy of holies (in classical Greek used of the sanctuary or cell of a temple, where the image of the god was placed, called also δόμος, σηκός, which is to be distinguished from τό ἱερόν, the whole temple, the entire consecrated enclosure; occurs 46 times in 40 verses of the NT

Revelation 15:8 and filled/replete<1072> was the Sanctuary/Tabernacle<3485> with smoke<2586> from the glory of God, and from His power.
And no one was able to be entering into the Sanctuary/Tabernacle
till should be being finished the seven plagues/blows of the seven Messengers, [Exodus 40, Isaiah 4:5]

Just as Moses was not able to enter the Tabernacle because of the glory of Yahweh:

Exodus 40:
34 And the cloud covereth the tent of meeting, and the glory of Yahweh hath filled the Tabernacle;
35 and Moses hath not been able to go enter to tent of meeting, for the cloud hath tabernacled on it, and the honour of Yahweh hath filled the Tabernacle.

Isaiah 4:5 then Yahweh will create above every dwelling place of Mount Zion, and above her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night. For over all the glory there will be a covering.
=========================
An interesting site I found on that and because of the Jewishness of Revelation, I felt it is appropriate............

When the glory of the Lord came down and filled the tabernacle for the first time it must have been an awesome spectacle to behold. God was truly pleased with His people, not because of their goodness but because their sins were covered and they were hid in Christ who was to come someday. I believe the high priest sensed a sweetness when he encountered the Presence of the Lord in the holy of holies.
The etymology of the dwelling or presence of God is the Hebrew word Sh'cheenah or as we pronounce it Shekinah. The term Shekinah was many times used interchangeably with the word God. In the Jewish mind it always spoke of the fact that He "dwelt in" or "rested upon" those who merited His favor, whether an individual, a community, or the entire Jewish people.

Jewish Tradition
Shechinah

1600812418486.png

According to Jewish tradition the radiance of the Shechinah, with its untold blessings, "rests" upon all those who are pious and righteous. According to ancient Rabbis the Shekinah appears in the midst of at least a minyan of worshipers when they pray in congregation, and of two or more Jews when they engage in the study of Torah, or on a man when he recites the Shema.
The Shekinah is said also to rest upon the chaste, the benevolent, and the hospitable, and upon husband and wife when they live in peace and harmony. The ancient Rabbis also said that the Shekinah appeared before Moses at the burning bush, rested upon the Tabernacle in the Wilderness on the day of its dedication, and in the holy of holies in the Temple at Jerusalem, and it has illuminated the bliss of the righteous (Heb. tzaddikim) in the world-to-come ever since.

The Talmudic Sages conceived of the Shekinah as a spiritual essence of indescribable beauty and exalting effect. It was generally spoken of as brilliant light or radiance and when it approached it was announced by a tinkling sound of like an ethereal bell. One interesting Jewish legend even described the dying Moses as being lovingly enfolded in the "wings" of the Shekinah.
