I agree that citizens should pay tax for the upkeep of their country. Here in the United Kingdom, we pay 20%. I understand that many will say that this figure is too large, however there are many who do not pay tax or evade it; and whilst this practise continues, tax in the United Kingdom will remain the same or be raised.

I do not agree that the rich should pay more tax. If a businessman or businesswomen works hard for their money, resulting in more staff members and larger premises, they will naturally pay more than someone employed or a small business owner. They should reap the benefits of taking a financial risk in starting a company and making it a success.

As Margaret Thatcher once said, "If you pay nothing, you care nothing".

this is well-written and thoughtful....apparently, some of the "socialist" reforms are just rehashing old tax laws from 1946-1980. who knew?

Oh.
I love it.
I love it.
I love it.

Rather, they provide the basis for meaningful tax reform whose twin goals are reducing extreme income and wealth inequality and protecting American democracy from the predations of wealthy plutocrats.

Yeah...ya gotta hate those wealthy folk.
I say we should all be po'.
Who do they think they are anyway?

And, oh yeah, we need a lot of protection.
Gosh...that's what the government was supposed to supply us with from the very beginning! But now it does soooo much more... We're so lucky.

This predation thing sounds pretty dangerous. I wonder if it's like a Predator? Maybe Arnie could take care of it....

But it does make me wonder...
who is predationing who???

Are the wealthy predationing the poor?
Or is the government predationing EVERYBODY?

As soon as I find out what it means...I'll let you know.
It's good to use big words...makes people feel smart.
Smarter than the ones they're predationing.

You think that kind of tax is unfair, how about the fact that those who come work in the vineyard late in the day get paid the same as those who labored since morning.
Tax is not the same as income.
Mr. Book Keeper is here....maybe HE can explain it....

She also said.....
"Sooner or later you run out of other people's money".

20% huh.
I'm close by...maybe I'll move....
I hear the suburbs in the North of London are VERY nice....

I believe you are correct; I think Bull of the Woods is referring to income.
Tax is a governmental set percentage in which you pay according to your income to fund public services and governmental programmes.
I hope this shines some light on this confusion.

I remember, not so long ago, when it was 17.5% - oh, those where the days.
That is correct about the quote; it is especially true with the current British government; they know how to spend the taxpayers money in the wrong places. You're more than welcome, however London isn't like it once were; to tell you the truth, whenever I'm there, I can't wait to leave. For me it's far too busy and expensive. Some apartments in London are in excess of £1,000,000.

Yes. Mr. Book Keeper.
It sure does.
I am Mrs. Book Keeper.
Retired, of course.
But I still love those numbers....

Yes. I agree fully.
I said the Northern suburbs ....
You also don't like it there?
Maybe the countryside?
Maybe the Isle of White?
The Lake region??
So many choices....

There are some beautiful places in the United Kingdom; we have a rich and vivid history. You could say I live in the countryside; I live in Derbyshire which is in the center of England. I live close to the Peak District National Park which is a vast green space, however not as large as the North Yorkshire Moors.
Even North London; I would give London a wide berth.

Wow.
You DO live in a very beautiful area....
God's land.
Are you really a bookkeeper?

Yes. Mr. Book Keeper.
It sure does.

They're hard to kick when you've been crunching numbers for many years. Bookkeeping is the foundation of all mathematical and statistical order - I love it!

Think if you made 10 million and you had to folk over 7 million, or made 10 billion and had to folk over 7 billion.

That could have expanded business or built a new luxury boat that keeps millions in, and creates millions of jobs.

What happens if the wealthy stop spending because the they are forced to hand over the mass majority of there earnings.?.

Dont pick on the rich.

I did too!
Maybe I still would,,, but I'm beginning to hate paying bills and keeping checking account balances is becoming a thing of the past. That might be a clue.
