Do you feel the Church is to keep the feast of Passover, the way God commanded the children of Israel?

JLB
God always said to everyone to choose for themselves

i choose to and it is awesome

those who choose not to do not realize what they are missing - but that is ok - God is good

Yes, these feast days pointed to Christ, who is the substance of the shadow He cast.

He will return on the feast of trumpets.

pretty cool - loaded with great truths - the secrets of the Lord are for those who fear Him - He will make them know His covenant - Psalms 25:14

Is there a place where you live that sells unblemished lambs?

Here’s a secret -

The Church doesn’t keep the Passover the way the Lord commanded the children of Israel.

“Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover to the Lord your God, for in the month of Abib the Lord your God brought you out of Egypt by night. Therefore you shall sacrifice the Passover to the Lord your God, from the flock and the herd, in the place where the Lord chooses to put His name. You shall eat no leavened bread with it; seven days you shall eat unleavened bread with it, that is, the bread of affliction (for you came out of the land of Egypt in haste), that you may remember the day in which you came out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life. And no leaven shall be seen among you in all your territory for seven days, nor shall any of the meat which you sacrifice the first day at twilight remain overnight until morning.
You may not sacrifice the Passover within any of your gates which the Lord your God gives you; but at the place where the Lord your God chooses to make His name abide, there you shall sacrifice the Passover at twilight, at the going down of the sun, at the time you came out of Egypt. Deuteronomy 16:1-6

And that is because Christ our Passover was sacrificed for us. That was the end of all Passover Feasts. Now only unbelieving Jews observe the Passover.

I agree.

Those among Judaism are those who deny Christ Jesus as the Messiah.

Messianic Judaism is an offshoot of Judaism.

For a proper understanding of which laws are no longer applicable and which continue to apply , Christians must study the epistle to the Hebrews carefully.
HEBREWS 9 (THE MOSAIC SACRIFICIAL SYSTEM IS ABOLISHED)
8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
9 Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

HEBREWS 8 (THE TEN COMMANDMENTS ARE STILL APPLICABLE)

7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

"The time of Reformation" began the day Christ died on the cross. The Ten Commandments are now within the Law of Christ.
Great post Nathan,
I really appreciate your posts and thoughts and how you view Christianity.

You just left out one type of commandment which is no longer in use today.

There were 3 types of Law in the O.T.
CIVIL
CEREMONIAL
MORAL

As you stated,,,the Moral Law will NEVER be abolished.

The civil and Ceremonial laws were abolished.

I do believe you left our the civil law....

This subject in my opinion, is of #2 importance when it comes to putting on the whole armour of God. I've grown up in an environment that expressed that it wasn't required or expedient to keep the laws of God. I attempt to shed light on the subject with this two part video.
God Bless!
Is that you in the video Servant Morris?
Or did you just use the name?

I can't watch a 35 minute video.
Anyway, we really should be stating our ideas and not use videos to do this or this would turn into a video forum.

Could you just tell me in 25 words or less what your belief is?
Sorry, I just got here.

This has always caused a conflict in me.
But I don't worry about it all day long and am trusting in Jesus.

Observing the Sabbath is one of the 10 commandments.
The Moral Law was FOREVER.

Jesus is now our Sabbath and we worship, I mean, celebrate, His Resurrection.

Why isn't this breaking the 4th commandment?

Observing the Sabbath is one of the 10 commandments.
The Moral Law was FOREVER.

Paul who if anyone was going to observe the necessary commandments it would be him, said it this way.

So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.
Colossians 2:16

Do we need to rest, at least one day a week?

Yes.

Do we observe the Sabbath the way the law of Moses required.

No.

If a person desires to observe the Sabbath then that is up to them.

One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. Romans 14:5-6

The weekly Sabbath points to the rest to come, when the Lord returns and removes the wicked and we will receive immortal bodies that will not die anymore and shine like the sun.

We will have rest here with Christ, for 1000 years, which will be the 7000th year from Adam.

But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3:8

We will no longer be striving with the sin in our bodies.

True Rest.

Do I remember correctly?
Jesus mentioned all the commandments except those having to do with God,,,He DID say that we are to love God...but I don't consider that an original commandment...

These are the first 4 commandments referring to God:

  • You shall have no other Gods but me.
  • You shall not make for yourself any idol, nor bow down to it or worship it.
  • You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
  • You shall remember and keep the Sabbath day holy.

IOW, one could say that if we're not required to follow the Sabbath, then why can't we steal, and dishonor parents, etc.

The fact that Jesus mentioned all these other commandments means that WE ARE REQUIRED to obey them.

BUT, He never mentioned the Sabbath, and so this leads me to believe that we are not required to obey the Sabbath commandments.

Right?

I do believe you left our the civil law....
True. I was only focused on which commandments do not apply to Christians. When we examine the civil laws of the Old Covenant, we see that their focus is primarily on justice and mercy, which are also covered by the last six commandments, or love for neighbor.

The New Testament expounds upon and illuminates things from the Old Testament.

There is really one commandment.

  • Now this is the commandment.
  • these are the statutes and judgments

By “one” I mean it in the sense of a plurality or unity of one.

Such as there is a coin, it’s one coin, with two sides.

“Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—a land flowing with milk and honey.’
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Deuteronomy 6:1-5

The way we obey this commandment to love the Lord our God, is to obey His commandment to love our neighbor as ourself.

If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also. 1 John 4:20-21

And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ Matthew 25:40

again

Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?

I'm going to post two links for the civil law because it's a bit much to get into...

If anyone is interested, here is a simple statement for the Civil Law in the O.T.

Up to this point we have shown from the Scriptures that the New Covenant explicitly rescinds Ceremonial laws of the Old Covenant. But what about the Civil laws? Are those rescinded as well?

The answer to that questions is Yes and here is why.

The Civil laws of Israel were made for a theocracy and can only be carried out at a governmental level. The theocracy of Israel ended because Israel broke its Covenant with God. Right now, Christ sits at the right hand of God in heaven. But one day Christ will return to sit on the throne of David and once again God will have a theocracy here on earth for 1000 years.

“25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:”

Sorry N. I just realized your point.
IOW, we do not have to follow the civil laws of the O.T., but we ARE required to follow the civil laws of TODAY.

Correct.
But since the 3 types of law are from the O.T., I think it's a good idea not to confuse the issue too much.

So no matter on what day we observe...we still love God.
Actually, we're supposed to love God, EVERY day.

Nevertheless the seventh day is the Sabbath, and the Sabbath was made for man to rest.

actually not - many christians and jews observe passover today - it is an awesome experience for a christian to see how Christ is found from start to finish in the feast typology

it actually makes more sense to celebrate what Jesus did when He did it - the passover feast

Again, there are deep insights to be gained from studying the feasts.

What I asked is about keeping the Passover the way the children of Israel were commanded, because it’s a requirement of a certain religious group, such as Judaism or some Messianic Christians teach.

Some of these groups entice unwitting Christians into their culture of Hebraic Christianity until they are brainwashed into only having Church on Saturday, becoming circumcised, dressing up like Jews, growing beards like Jews, eating Kosher, and returning to the law of Moses, in order to be saved.

It all starts with a subtle twist of this scripture then that one.

Most of them teach strict adherence to keep such feasts as Passover and Pentecost, bit have never been baptized with the Holy Spirit, with the evidence that is seen and heard.

It’s like going on a long trip to get to a beautiful vacation spot, and then spending your whole vacation rereading the map, and discussing the journey, rather than enjoying the beauty and rest of the vacation.

Paul says it this -

These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh. Colossians 2:23

  • but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh

not so - not sure which christians and jews you personally know who do that - but i know of NONE -

jews do not keep God's laws to be saved - never have - never will - they know God alone saves - not works

neither do any christians i have ever heard of and certainly none i know personally

show me any christian or jewish site that says THEY as a collective group are actively keeping God's laws to be saved
