This subject in my opinion, is of #2 importance when it comes to putting on the whole armour of God. I've grown up in an environment that expressed that it wasn't required or expedient to keep the laws of God. I attempt to shed light on the subject with this two part video.

Are The Laws Done Away With?
For a proper understanding of which laws are no longer applicable and which continue to apply , Christians must study the epistle to the Hebrews carefully.
HEBREWS 9 (THE MOSAIC SACRIFICIAL SYSTEM IS ABOLISHED)
8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
9 Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

HEBREWS 8 (THE TEN COMMANDMENTS ARE STILL APPLICABLE)

7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

"The time of Reformation" began the day Christ died on the cross. The Ten Commandments are now within the Law of Christ.

To all those who think that all the laws have been fulfilled in Christ you are very wrong as below are the laws that are written upon our heart and can only be fulfilled when Christ returns and makes an end to sin by throwing it into the lake of fire with that of the beast and the false prophets. The only laws that Christ has fulfilled so far are that of the Temple and its sacrifices. Someone please show me in scripture where Jesus has fulfilled all the laws, because in Matthew 22:35-40 and Matthew 5:17, 18 Jesus does not say that he has already fulfilled all of them, but that love was the greatest of them all.

There are laws (commandments) of God that were especially written just for the Hebrews pertaining to the rituals of the Temple, sacrifices, festivals, Torah, Kohanim and Levites, the King and the Nazarite. Then there are the existing moral laws (commandments) for all of us to still follow as in prayers and blessings, love and brotherhood. The poor and unfortunate, treatment of the Gentiles, Marriage, divorce and family. Forbidden sexual relations, business practices, employees and servants. Vows, oaths, swearing, Court and Judicial procedures. Injuries and damages, property and property rights, criminal laws. Prophecy, idolatry and all its practices as the moral laws (commandments) keep us in line with the will of God.

We need to present ourselves a vessel of honor that God delights in as we allow the light of Christ shine in us and through us. This is a testimony of Gods grace and mercy as it is not ourselves that do any good thing, but Gods Spirit working in us and through us as we surrender our will to that of Gods will to be done.

Morality in God is His greatest commandment of love as we treat others as we want others to treat us. God is love and wants us to love and treat others as He loves and treats us.

Then your teachers were ignorant of what Jesus actually said:-

matt5: 17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

matt24: 35, Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment and he quoted the OT Deut 6:5 and Lev19:18

As these two sum up the whole of the law that your teachers were saying one does not have to obey.

Yes His commandments and doctrine are all about Love.

Loving God, and loving our neighbor.

For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:3

If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also. 1 John 4:20-21

“If you love Me, keep My commandments. John 14:15

Amen.

Bravo Glory Girl. You have presented a very truthful and accurate presentation of the reason why we don't discard the Old Testament as many folk have been told to disregard the Old Testament.

I love you,

Without the OT we would never understand the NT and our need of a Savior that is Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.

Rev 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

agree with everything except the festivals

they are called the festivals of the Lord and they are awesomely powerful reminders of a God who never changes - each festival of the Lord has a deep meaning today

Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment and he quoted the OT Deut 6:5 and Lev19:18

As these two sum up the whole of the law that your teachers were saying one does not have to obey.

This here is the crux of the matter I believe and the same scripture I thought to post and you beat me to it. Good job, Brother.

I'm not sure that I personally understand why some would seek to be loosed from the law of the OT? The 10 commandments are words to live by. To press in and grow in Christ.

I actually had the thought earlier today that, once we are saved, the sanctification and purification process begins, and everyone knows it is a thing which is a process and takes time. But!! Let us not be confused about how it takes place, ok?

Does the Lord who sanctifies me and purifies me, do this of Him self? ...and it is a gift to me? A grace? This is not cut and dry clearly. Do I sanctify myself? Probably not, or at the very least I may only initiate it and thereby participate in it, in that way.

Scripture states, if you love me, you will keep my commandments. So that means that we are to put forth effort and action towards and to contribute to our own sanctification, correct? For example, I get saved and read more, pray more...even help the poor more...but continue to indulge in my favorite or two worldly sins. Will I go to heaven? Will Jesus show up one day and supernaturally transform me and my heart into a perfect being? He might...He could. But consider this,

scripture says that there will be no liars in heaven. Scripture says there will be no thieves in heaven. So we better make the choice to not speak that (so called) little white lie. Or keep the extra money which the big bad corporation accidently handed me at the check out counter. ...on earth as it is in heaven? So I can't be a liar when Jesus shows up. I can not be a thief at heart (if the conditions are right). Not being a liar or thief (right now) means not having the heart to do such things. I submit to you Brothers and Sisters, that we are very much responsible for our own sanctification as God is. If we are upright Christians who give at the church and to the poor, and walk in His Spirit, in love towards all, then we succumb ourselves willingly to temptations to lie, to steal, to cheat on our spouse's even in thought and don't realize that this is a stain on our wedding gown...then we might just be in big trouble...then maybe we need to study more.

When Jesus said, my Love covers a multitude of sins, He didn't say that so that we can go on sinning and not committing our life to him 100%. To the Lord, being guilty of even the smallest transgression of the law is to be guilty of all of it...so there is no loophole there! God will not be mocked.

If God does not change, then how could the OT be null and void? That is an absurd notion. Of course the Lord wants us to obey the law. It is obeying Him and a proclamation of our love for Him when we listen to our conscience and...do not fall for the temptation. Doing the right thing pleases the Lord. It is worship and pressing in and the Lord rewards such behavior and commitment. .

If anyone has never broke down and wept because of their own shortcomings, then I would think that the same does not take scripture or the Lord seriously.

Oh Lord, make in me a contrite heart.

I agree as the seven festivals are prophetic of Messiah as in the reality and fulfillment of Christ as the festivals were given by God and still celebrated today.

What I was referring to was the Temple sacrifices already being fulfilled in Christ as we no longer sacrifice the blood of animals.

Where did the feast days or festivals originate?

I'm not sure that I personally understand why some would seek to be loosed from the law of the OT?

It’s a misunderstanding of the law of Moses, which was temporary, and the The Law, Torah, which are the first five books of the Bible.

Moses was the mediator of the covenant at Sinai, which is why it’s called the “law of Moses”.

Jesus is the Mediator of the New Covenant, which is the new or refreshed Abrahamic Covenant, which is why it’s called
“the Law of Christ”.

The law of Moses was nailed to the cross, and has been abolished in His flesh.

The law of Moses was added, until the Messiah should come.

What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator. Galatians 3:19

  • It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come

By saying “till”, the Holy Spirit is indicating the law was temporary.

The 10 Commandments are not the law of Moses, nor did they originate with Moses.

Abraham kept His Commandments 430 years before he law of Moses.

And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.” Genesis 26:4-5

  • because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.

Abraham learned and kept His commandments by faith.

they were commanded by God in Torah to be eternally observed

the details of how to observe the festivals are what have deep meaning in Christ

at the time they were given to Moses the meaning wasn't revealed but any Torah observant jew who keeps the festivals since childhood and then learns about Jesus will have instant revelation of why Jesus is the long-awaited Messiah

Yes, these feast days pointed to Christ, who is the substance of the shadow He cast.

He will return on the feast of trumpets.
