Armour of God
Ephesians 6:10-18
Vs. 10 we are to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. The emphasis is the power of His might. Meaning there is nothing of ourselves we can do in the flesh to stand against Satan. It is only by Christ and through Christ that we are given the victory over Satan and his minions.
Vs. 11 we have to put on the full armor of God in order to stand against the cunning devices Satan will try to use against as his only purpose is to kill, steal and destroy ones faith in Christ, John 10:10. We have to put on the Lord Jesus Christ in order to not fulfill the lust of the flesh that gives place to Satan, Romans 13:11-14. We put on Christ by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour (fullness) of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, 2 Corinthians 6:7. It’s not our righteousness, but God’s righteousness found in us who walk by faith in the Spirit of God.
Vs. 12 we no longer wrestle against the flesh or the blood as we have crucified the flesh, dead and buried, as we now walk in newness of life as we walk in the Spirit of God in Spiritual places, Romans 8:5-10; Galatians 5:16-26; 6:7-9. What we do wrestle against is principalities, power, rulers of the darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in places of authority. Satan moves to and fro on the earth and is very cunning. He will do whatever it takes to separate us from God through deceitful lies as he works through a doubled minded person who is unstable in all their ways, James 1:5-8.
Vs. 13 in Christ we have peace, but in the world we will always have tribulation, but Jesus said to take heart as He has already overcome the world for us, John 16:33. When we take on the full armour of God we no longer war after the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled, 2 Corinthians 10:4-6. Having done all to stand means overcoming all the evil principalities of this world as we stand on the promises of God like the promises found in Psalms 91.
Vs. 14 begins with the first part of the armour of God. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness. Having your loins girt means to tighten your pants or in other words, being ready for any confrontation of the devil as you stand in all truths. This is the first part of the armour. The second piece is the breastplate of righteousness, which means we are surrounded by God’s righteousness and faith in Him that we will not falter, Isaiah 11:5.
Vs. 15 the third part of the armour is having your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace means that God goes out before you into all the battles we face, Deuteronomy 31:8; Isaiah 41:10; 52:11, 12. The battles belong to the Lord who will always strengthen us and make us victorious over the enemy.
Vs. 16 the fifth part of the armour is our shield of faith. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?, 1 John 5:4, 5.
Vs 17 the sixth part of the armour is the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. God is our salvation through His Son Jesus Christ who is above all, and through all, and in you all, Ephesians 4:6. God is our helmet and our sword that goes before us and with us in spiritual warfare, Exodus 23:30; Isaiah 41:10; Philippians 4:13; Revelation 3:21.
Vs. 18 praying is one of the most important factors in defeating the attacks of Satan. Praying is fellowship with the Father as we humble ourselves before Him sending up our petitions before Him. We need to watch and pray that we enter not into temptation that Satan will entice us with as the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak, Matthew 26:41.
