Does anybody else use this service? I do and although it seems to protect my computer from viruses it is also rather annoying with all of the popups I get from it because I'm never sure when it's just a scam and when it's actually genuine. However, I always click out of them anyways because I always assume that it's a scam. Today I got a popup saying that my internet provider was selling my searching history and I'm not quite sure what that means but I assume that it's a scam as well.

There was this one scam that I kept getting a few months back that was also verbal and very hard to close out of but I forget what that was exactly about. Either way with all of the telephone and computer scams that we have out there in the world today it's very sad indeed, and it's even sadder that people actually fall for them.

For years I have used the free version of AVG and it has always caught any virus and shows me what they were and to let me know they are taken care of. The pop-ups come once in a while as AVG wants you to buy their products. I get this one from another place that pops up and says my drivers are out of date and they want me to pay for their product. My drivers update automatically so I do not need this service so I just close it when it pops up. Avg already has a section you can click on for updates and a full computer scan so just ignore all those other pop ups.

Never had any problems with the free version of AVG. You just need to keep the virus definitions up to date and download the newer versions of AVG that come out every year. I use to pay for Norton until someone told me about AVG being free. Norton has gotten so expensive.

Thanks, that's exactly what I figured that it's nothing more than a nuisance.

avast is free updates on its own and works in the background silently i also clean with superantispy ware remover and malwarebytes both free

I used AVG for quite a few years until my old Windows Vista system became no longer supported. I liked AVG and never had any issues as you have described but it has been a few years since I used it too.

I found McAfee to be a huge resource hog, slowing my system down so much that my mouse would stop working while it updated definitions.

I have also used Microsoft Defender and haven't found any issues with it. Just replaced our old Vista system last week and I'm using Defender again. I have no reason to install any other.

Using some care about what you click on, what you download, what you agree to, what you reply to, and what websites you visit is still the best anti-virus program out there.

I used AVG, Malwarebytes, Ccleaner, Hijackthis, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Adaware all at the same time thinking it was necessary to protect our system. Yeah, I was paranoid. Each has its own strong points. About the only thing all this stuff really found were tracking cookies. Never picked up a virus and never got a warning of an attempted install. Now, it's just going to be Windows Defender which is built into Windows 10 and good ol' common sense.

only cleans up does not protect ccleaner is a good junk file cleaner adaware is out dated same as spy bot i have window defender built in malware bytes a good program to have for clean up

if you really want to be fool prof go Linux only same printers are hard to get to work with it

A good rule of thumb is to never open anything that you haven't downloaded in the first place.
Never click on any links in emails that you receive unless you are expecting the email from a trusted source.
Never even open an email that comes from an unexpected source, not even in preview mode. Spam mail comes loaded with junk.
Set your email app to not display any pictures or photos. You can usually allow them when you know the source.

I'll vouch for Malwarebytes.

I have used both AVG and Avast. (I like Avast cause I'm a Pirate - Avast ye matey, and shiver me timbers. Fun fact: if your timbers are shivering, it's because you're sailing really FAST! Good wind, sails set well, lots of skill involved, and FUN)

Hn. (That's what the character in my new avatar says a lot if you're not familiar with Naruto) I like pirate movies like Potc (Pirates of the Caribbean) and stuff, but what in the world are you talking about? :confused2

malwarebytes is a excellent program the other stuff you can get by with ..although Ccleaner is good for clearing up junk files that can clutter things up malwarebytes is good for removing unwanted programs ..that can sneak in unaware

I have the free version of Ccleaner and I notice the difference after it cleans up all the garbage files and fixes any issues I have in the registry. Free is a good thing LOL

Apparently it's the registry that makes PC / Windows susceptible to malware, viruses, etc. Even Android doesn't have one. Mac / Apple and Linux never did.
