We will have to agree to disagree. I can only go by my own experience. I don't care if the word inspire is human or Divine. I just know I get inspired and I write down what the Holy Spirit says in my own words. English. Many of the books I've read that have saved my life we're inspired by God. I guess I'm just confused. Are you saying the Holy Spirit stands over the shoulders of the people who wrote the Bible and dictated it word for word. What about all the different translations? I feel we have to be more flexible when it comes to scripture because it's been translated so many different ways over the years. For instance I was brought up with the expression the fear of God. So naturally I was afraid of God until I was an adult and found out that it means AWE. This was such a relief because I don't want to be afraid of God

No, I don't agree to disagree. I disagree.

OK, so you go by your experience. Another goes by their experience. Another goes by their experience. And another goes by their experience. But....yall don't have the same experience. What now? See, the Bible means nothing. Your 'experience' defines God and Christ to you...not the Bible. You're creating God after your image. You are not following God by what He has revealed in the Scripture.

No other books on earth have been inspired by God to be written as 'His Word', except the Bible. None. Christians may be inspired to write books about the Bible and commentaries, and so on. But the Bible is a Book Authored by God. It is His Word to His people.

Sometimes it was dictation. Some of what Moses and others wrote was definitely dictation. That doesn't make it wrong, just makes it of God. Sometimes it was the Holy Spirit so moving upon the mans spirit, that what he wrote was the product of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes the prophets didn't even understand the things they wrote. (1 Peter 1:10-11)

I think Godly fear is a good thing. I think 'awe' really takes away from it. There is no place to be 'flexible' with the Word of God. But of course, if it isn't the Word of God....what does it matter? So, is the Bible the Word of God or not?

Wow. Like I said before you have anger issues. You seem to want to be right at all times. That comes from your ego. There is room in life for more than one opinion. But I can see you're one of those people that it's useless to argue with because you're not flexible at all. When people stand up to you it makes you angrier. So in all humility, have it your way. Have a good day.

P.S. You know people who have to be right all the time are kind of lonely. I know because I used to be one of those people. I don't have all the answers. Maybe you are right. Everything that happened to me could just be my imagination. But I'm not taking any chances. I know when the Holy Spirit inspiring me and when she's not. She told me that helping people is more important than reading scripture. I do both just to cover my bases.

P.S.S. In my prison ministry I often meet uneducated people who can't read. So I read passages from the Bible to them. But they are still Christians because they surrendered to Jesus. The Bible is mostly for educated people who can read. I find that when you can't read you are sometimes more intimate with Christ because you focus more on prayer and meditation ❤

In my opinion it's best not to generalize. The all-or-nothing concept does not work for me. I also believe that Christ sent the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire people to write other books. As I said before why would the Holy Spirit suddenly become mute. She has a lot to say.

In the Gospel of John, it is written if all the things that Jesus said and did, even the world itself couldn't contain the books that should be written.

Also, to man it was given to read of every book of the garden, but the book of the knowledge of good and evil you should not. Some who sit in the temple of God showing themselves that they are god will testify to the book of the knowledge of good and evil while they stand in condemnation of any other book.

"Some who sit in the temple of God showing themselves that they are god will testify to the book of the knowledge of good and evil while they stand in condemnation of any."

"Showing themselves that they are God." How does one do that? Are we talking about the ego. People with a huge ego think they are like a god. That is why humility is so important. The rest of the passage I don't understand. Is it for reading other literature or against it?

I don't have any problem being angry. There is no room for the Christian to believe the Bible is the Word of God. That is not flexible.

I didn't say whatever happened to you was your imagination. I said whatever happened to you is not how you gain knowledge of God. Your 'experience' does not trump 'revelation' from God, as found in the Bible. You keep wanting to call God 'she'. You like it. It is a product of your 'experience'. Yet it is not true based upon the Bible, the revelation from God. It doesn't matter to you. You create God in your image.

If your Holy Spirit is a 'she' it is not the Holy Spirit.

Well, all you are telling me of your prison ministry is that you have more affect upon people that can't read. No kidding. When you come across people who can read....then there are problems. But of course those 'readin people' have ego and anger issues.

Do you believe the Bible is the Word of God?

I believe you think you're God. Almighty Quantrill. I know that most of the Bible is the Word of God. Loving our neighbor as we love ourselves is the Word. But when I meet people like you who worship the Bible and have no love then I'm disappointed. As I told you before the Holy Spirit is spirit. She has no gender . It is a personal choice to use the female pronoun. God bless you. God help you!

P.S. nature is very masculine. I'm thinking of tornadoes. But we use the expression mother nature, which is feminine. Finally, I have a question for you about the Bible. I have always wondered this. In one gospel three women went to the tomb. In another gospel only one woman went. Which is correct

I am sorry for losing my temper. When someone is dying and someone throws them a life line they tend to bond with whatever saved them. The Bible saved you and now you appreciate it. I understand that. But the book that saved my life was Alcoholics Anonymous. It was also inspired by God and has saved millions of people. When asked where his inspiration came from, Bill Wilson pointed to a picture of Jesus. Since I have anger issues, I also found the Course in Miracles inspirational. When I read the Bible I use the "Living Bible," because to me the words are living, breathing, and understandable.

I studied history in college and apparently translating the Bible into English was punishable by death. The priests wanted to hide the Truth form people and make them dependent on them. It changed everything when people could read the Bible for themselves. It changed everything for me when I was able to read the Living Bible.

Throughout the world, people speak different languages so they keep translating the Bible. Each time you can alter the meaning a little as the process of translation continued because some words do not have corresponding counterparts in the second language. As time goes by, we need the Holy Spirit more and more to fill in the gaps. We must stand in the light of the Holy Spirt as whispers the correct interpretation to us.

Take care Quantrill . . .

How do you know most of the Bible is the Word of God? How do you determine that which is in the Bible to not be the Word of God? And what is the source of your method?

Who says 'spirit' is genderless? God is Spirit. But, God is masculine. Your body reflects your spirit. Adam was created in the image of God. (Gen. 1:27) (1 Cor. 11:7) Jesus Christ is the exact image of the Person of God, in every way. (Heb. 1:3) And Christ was a man.

Without knowing which Scriptures you are alluding to, I will just say this concerning the accounts of the resurrection morning. All accounts in the Gospel's are true. Is this your 'go to contradiction' that you feel justifies your rejection of the Bible as the Word of God.

I do not reject Bible. I believe most of it is the Word of God. Some things in the Bible are outdated like wearing a veil. Other things are carved in stone, like loving your neighbor. I also think it's time to have another ecumenical council so we can add additional material. God continues writing his word through the Holy Spirit.

You do not reject Susannah's Bible. You do reject the Bible. Your Bible is composed of some things in the Holy Bible....what you would like to think is of God. So you take away from the Bible, and your Bible can be added to, as you just indicated.

All of that is contrary to the Bible.

Council's don't make a writing inspired by God. You're not looking for something inspired by God. Your definition of inspiration is the world's definition. You're looking for something that inspires you. That doesn't make it from God.

" There is no room for the Christian to believe the Bible is the Word of God." really? How did you come up with this thought? Obviously not from reading the Bible or from God directly.

God has placed you and me on different paths. He has asked you to study and share scripture. I think that's great. The Holy Spirit has asked me to work with addicts and help them with their recovery. So that is where my focus is not the Bible. Because the Bible doesn't talk much about recovery from addiction I have to use other literature. We are never going to agree on this. We are both wedded to our own ideology. Since this conversation is going in circles I'm going to stop posting at this point. I respect your position, I just feel differently. We are both Christians and that's the most important thing.

I hope you misunderstand. There is no room here. The Bible is the Word of God. There is no room for any other belief.

Perhaps I didn't word it clearly. The Bible is the Word of God. No room for argument there.

Yes you are right. The Bible is the Word of God at the time it was written . But after the Bible was written he didn't stop talking. You can find his new material if you care to look at Christian bookstores. Are you saying you have not learned anything important except through the Bible. I learned a lot about God by reading them writingd of Mother Teresa. She was in direct contact with God during her Ministry. Your mind is like a flower. Let it blossom.

The Bible is the only written Word of God on earth then and now.

God of course communicates with His people. He does it through His written Word and His Spirit. But...though He communicates with you by His Spirit, does not mean He is adding to His written Word.

And when the communication you have by the 'spirit' contradicts the written Word of God, the Bible, then you need to step back and consider the spirit you are listening to.

I haven't even scratched the truths that are in the Bible that God wants to reveal to His people. That doesn't mean I accept theories or beliefs outside of the Bible. God does not build on a lie.

Mother Teresa?!!!
You must be a roman catholic!!!
Christian bookstores?
Where are you from?
And what kind of bookstore would carry Mother Teresa?
I haven't seen a Christian bookstore is years, and I'm from the Bible belt.

In case anyone is interested in my opinion, I think Mother Teresa was a good works person, who saw salvation in every religion so there was no need to witness to anyone, and from what I've read, she questioned her own salvation in the end.
Not exactly a good example in my book.

The original KJV is not normal english and should not be compared with english translations.
I can't read it and understand it and I think I do very well with the english language.
The original KJV included the apocrypha
Can only be a catholic alternative Duway version at best

The Living Bible is a joke
Imagine someone calling their Bible living, as though all other Bibles are dead.
What nerve
And people actually believe it

The biggest Bible corruption of all is someone claiming that their Bible is right, and all other Bibles are therefore wrong
That's not a joke
That's sad!!!

I Googled the term obsessed with the Bible and came up with the term religious fanatic. I've never met one before and now I know two of you. To denigrate someone like Mother Teresa is a sin. What's important to remember is what Christ said. Love one another so that others will know that I live. That's just a paraphrase but the Holy Spirit asked me to tell you this. If you don't get the part about loving your neighbor you don't get the Bible. So you may read the Bible. You may study the Bible. You may have the Bible memorized. But you don't get its message.

OCD Obsessive Compulsive Dsorder is a form of mental illness. There's no cure. Bible fanatics have a deep-seated and unconscious fear of going to hell. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Read this if you dare.
It is only one of many.
