Why would a Christ say something nasty about God?

That one is concerned not to do this is evidence that one hasn't done it and that one would repent of it if for any reason one did.

Think of what Jesus went through in order to save you.
Is he going to just give up on us because we had a few bad thoughts?
Just what does the unmeasurable, unknowable extent of God's love that we experience actually mean?

You've confused me with this statement. Please clarify. How can it be unpardonable and later pardonable?
We blaspheme the Holy Spirit by degrading God by attributing to God evil acts that only satan performs....any bad word about God is blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

When our hearts become hard to this...then we are headed toward the Unpardonable Sin. It is NOT unpardonable right away because we have the chance to ask forgiveness and all sin will be forgiven.

But if we do not ask for forgiveness, or come to have faith in God, by the end of our lives....then THAT is the unpardonable sin....the not believing in the end.

The US is unbelief.

Acts 5:3
But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land?

The above grieved the Holy Spirt and lying to the Holy Spirit is blasphemous...however, Ananias could have been forgiven if asked.

Acts 7:51
51“You men who are stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did.

If the above die in this state, Paul is telling them they will be lost.
However, if one of these stiff-necked persons come to repent, he will be saved.

If I understand you correctly, you're saying that there are sins that cannot be pardoned but yet can be forgiven? This seems contradictory.

All sin will prevent anyone from entering the Kingdom of God. Unpardenable Sin are Sins you can't repent of. That you face judgement on and can't be forgiven .....not in this age or the age to come! You still can't get to Heaven if You can't repent of even the smallest sin.

If a person is a Christian,,,how could they not be sorry for a sin?

What you state above is true...I'd just like to understand it more....

No I'm putting in to perspective the chance that a Christian would commit this sin.
I read your post no. 22 again.
Exactly what are you putting into perspective?
I don't understand your point.

A Christian would commit WHAT sin?
The Unpardonable Sin could not be committed by a Christian.

A certain aspect of blaspheming the Holy Spirit can,,,but would not necessarily lead to the U.S.

1 Timothy 1:13 Paul (Saul) was a blasphemer and even persecuted Christians to death, but was a blasphemer out of ignorance in unbelief for he knew not Christ or the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. It wasn't until his conversion on the road to Damascus that his spiritual eyes and ears were opened, to understanding, Acts 9.

Those who walk in unbelief are just that being nonbelievers and are none of Christ like Paul was at one time. Those who have walked in truth given them by the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) John 14:26, are those who have also turned back to the flesh just as the foolish Galatians who walked away from faith in Galatians chapter 3. Those who blasphemy the Holy Spirit knowing the truth have walked away from it as their hearts become hardened and they speak evil against God (Holy Spirit)

Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. 32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. 33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
Galatians 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? 2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? 4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. 5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

BTW, what I have said here is not about OSAS vs OSNAS so let this not come up in our discussions. I'm talking about those who walk away from truth for whatever reason as they have allowed their heart to be hardened.

In a different thread WIP and I were discussing the difference between blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and the unpardonable sin.

Is there a difference?
Does one lead to the other?
What IS blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and
What IS the unpardonable sin?

These two verses were cited by the other member:

Mathew 12:31
"Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. "

Mark 3:28-30
28“Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter;
29but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”—
30
because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”

Jesus said the above.

There seem to be some questions regarding the above...so I thought it best to ask others what they believe to be the difference between the two...or, is there a difference?

For now, I'd only like to say that it is the Holy Spirit that convicts us of sin.
This is His work/job/attribute.

What are your thoughts?

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the unpardonable sin.

Blasphemy is defined as “speaking evil of someone” and in this case it would calling the Holy Spirit the Devil.

  1. slander, detraction, speech injurious, to another's good name
  2. impious and reproachful speech injurious to divine majesty

Agreed.
The question has come up:
Can this be forgiven?

We're told that every sin could be forgiven except the Unpardonable Sin.

The U.S. is understood to be the rejection of God to the end of life.

Do you agree?

This is His work/job/attribute.

What are your thoughts?
Here is what I believe about the unpardonable sin.
It is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit as the Bible says, but what exactly IS that and how is it different than blasphemy against the Son or the Father?
First, and as comfort, because I know a lot of Christians, me once included, fear this, I think it is impossible for a true Christian to commit this sin. A true and real Christian has the Holy Spirit indwelling them and if they could commit this sin it would be the house divided against itself that Jesus spoke of.
When a person is in Christ, (born again, redeemed, converted, however we say it) ALL their sins are forgiven because it is not our OWN righteousness, but the righteousness of CHRIST, that is counted as our own. Only this one is unforgivable. What is the difference?
It is it's relation to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit's work is to enlighten the mind of sinners (Eph 1:17,18), reveal and teach the Gospel (John 14:26, to persuade us to repent and to believe the truth(Acts 7:51). He explains the word of God and He opens the mind so it is understood.2Cor.3:16,17.
It is when His influence is deliberately, knowingly refused, opposing the light, then the U.P. can be committed as a voluntary and informed act of MALICE. These people have seen and understood, but have not been converted. And yes, then there is a hardening done by God that rules out repentance and faith. Heb. 3:12,13. God PERMITS the human will to be permanent in this case.
If a person wants to repent they have not suffered this hardening. He has not committed that profound act of hatred towards His love.
Again: anyone who has been born again will not commit this sin.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. 7 As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.

It has nothing to do with the U.S. or any country as it's only the people who once knew truth like that of the foolish Galatians that have turned away and hardened their heart against God and speak evil against His Holy Spirit as this does happen with many especially when they end up blaming God for whatever reason they have turned away from Him as they renounce His Holy Spirit

I think W was abbreviating unpardonable sin

Again: anyone who has been born again will not commit this sin.

I can not agree with this as I have seen those who once held all truths literally walk away in hatred as something devastating has happened in their life that caused them to lose all faith and speak evil of God's Holy Spirit.

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Because of persecution/tribulations (roaring lion) in ones life many lose faith and hope and go as far as speaking evil against the Holy Spirit as they lost all faith and trust in God as they harden their heart against Him. The story of Job comes to mind as God allowed Satan to take everything away from Job, except his very life. Job chose to be faithful to God no matter what happened. It's a matter of being strong in the face of the adversary or allow the adversary to make you weak.
