I woke up today to find another story had taken over C19...
Live images on the release of Cardinal George Pell, innocent in the first place

He was bishop of my town then bishop of my country so i keenly followed the case for the last 5 years
He maintained his innocence from the start and without getting into the case details much they had nothing but one mans word

The justice system really had no option but to acquit him.
It makes me wonder how many priests are in jail for unfair trials like Pell's had been before today

Cos it's highly suspicious all these accusations started coming out about things that supposedly happened 20 to 30 years ago
Why did it take so long to press charges. Why was it reported earlier. Im suspicious of such allegations and always give the benefit of the doubt to the defendant.

In this case it was than the benefit of the doubt, it outweighed the balance of probability considerably

Did you get to know this man on a personal level or from a distance?

Bishops and pastors are often difficult to get to know on a personal basis. Mine is a fairly reasonable guy but it's taken a bit of time to really know him well. Ours has no institutional backing so they tend to feel isolated and fearful of the congregation. So its difficult to really get to know them beyond the mask they put on for the masses.

And I can see why many people have originally defended guilty men in their ignorance.

Today, there are stories coming out of the Catholic seminaries today by priests that are horrific. And it didn't happen by accident. Nor are they likely by priests that are disgruntled either. The stories out of Baptists seminaries are the usual ones...they talk about the strictness of the institution, the price of the education, and the difficult coursework.

Most people I know don't go through seminaries to be head pastors. They go in believing that they will be an associate pastor of some kind of adult ministry...music or some other focus.
I've considered going...but its very expensive. And I'm not sure what I'd do with the knowledge. I really don't want to deal with people like they have to do. I'm too salty for that sort of life. I like beer, wine, and an occasional mixed drink...I'd do better in Methodist churches but I'm not liking their focus lately.

I'll just be me...maybe one day teach a Sunday school class.

I didn't know him personally, just from a distance
I have been to some of his mass ceremonies and had the chance to meet him briefly

The cardinal has had his life ruined by these false accusations
He was the third most highest authority in the RCC and could of perhaps been a pope one day

Five years this saga has taken, including a year and a half in prison, persecuted seemingly just for being a Christian. In that five years the man looks like he aged 15 years, its taken a lot out of him

But it's not over believe it or not. The person who made this allegation is already talking about filing a civil lawsuit against the Cardinal

I looked Pell's story over and found him to be at conflict with his words vs his actions. His claim that the Church should not be held accountable for the actions of it's priests is so ludicrous, he had to backtrack his statement. His escorting one of Australia's most prolific pedo-priests to court and then admitting he did so in order to try and procure a lesser prison sentence for him is telling.

I don't know what your talking about but I do know it has nothing to do with this case
