When is that first resurrection?
Hi Solo - Food for thought...
1. When is that first resurrection?
I believe the key is found in:
Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Two things to note:
1. The time – Prior to or at the very beginning of the 1,000 year reign - “
shall reign with him a thousand years.â€Â
2. The people – “they shall be priests of God and of Christ†– This is Israel - see Exo 19:6 And
ye shall be unto me a
kingdom of priests, and an holy nation.
Rev 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father;
The church, which is his body, has never meant to be priests in a physical land.
The church is to be in a
heavenly kingdom - Eph. 2:6 - Israel an
earthly kingdom.
Eph 3:10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
Eph 3:11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
2. Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, F4 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
In early Acts the Lord’s 2nd coming was still possible at that time – God was giving the nation another chance at the kingdom offer. All that was needed was for the nation to accept Christ, their Messiah that Peter preached in Acts 2. They started the official rejection in Acts 7. During this early Acts time Thessalonians and Corinthians were written and the 2nd advent discussed – not the rapture. The body of Christ had yet to be revealed by Paul. The Gentiles were getting in on the blessings as prophesied in the OT but still no body of Christ of Ephesians. The Gentiles getting in on the blessings and the body of Christ in Ephesians are different. Once Israel officially rejected Paul’s offer (Acts 28) then the 2nd advent and Israel getting into the land was put on hold and the body of Christ that was forming came to fruition after Acts 28 (Ephesians – Colossians).
Basically God’s plan for Israel and the Gentiles were coming to fruition during Acts but then it morphed into the plan formed from BEFORE the foundation of the word – the body of Christ. Israel’s plan was put on hold.
3. Behold, I shew you a mystery;
I believe it is mystery is the end of the tribulation “rapture of tribulation saints†– not the rapture of the church as most think of it. The context is 2nd advent.
4. Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
This, I believe, to be the “general resurrection†that Israel understood which will take place prior to the 1,000 year reign. Here Ezek. 37 (dry bones) and Jer. 31 with Heb. 8 take place and they all (resurrected Jew and maybe Gentile from OT and out of the tribulation) and are gathered together and enter into the land and Israel will fulfill Gods plan of becoming the nation of kingdom of priests.
5. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23
This is the 2nd coming during Acts that could have taken place but was put off until the future.
That’s my take.
God bless
