As we've mentioned a time or two before the new guidelines for this forum have been put in place to help create a place for intelligent and thoughtful debate of theological subjects, and that these guidelines will be fine tuned from time to time. After discussion among staff, there has been a change made today.

The former 2nd point in the guidelines had read: "Subsequent opposing responses should include references to supportive scripture relevant to the thread and offer explanation for the contrary understanding."

The revision now reads: "Subsequent responses either opposing or adding additional information should include references to specific supportive scripture relevant to the thread and offer explanation of the member's understanding of how that scripture applies."

While this may seem like a subtle change, it is now no longer technically a violation of this guideline to ask a question regarding another members post without citing some kind of applicable scripture. (But it's still not ok to make an opposing statement just disguised as a question. This will still require scripture) and it's OK to make a statement agreeing with a post without having to provide more scripture. This had been the original intent of the guideline and we hope this is more clear now.

This new wording also is meant to encourage people to base additional information they wish to add to a thread on scripture even when that information is not in opposition, and cite that specific scripture the information is based on. This was also the intent from the beginning. I hope the new wording will be helpful and more clear.

Obadiah.
