When major purchases of raw goods are made to turn into natural supplements, this type of technology is employed. For example, 100 pounds of echinacea; ok, you weigh it. It may be that they could see a wider spectrum of light.
There are people today who have a "condition" (tetrachromacy) that allows them to see many more colors than the "normal" population.

Many accounts from people who have had Near Death Experiences (if you believe in such things) of Heaven report the seeing of colors that they can't describe since they're not normally visible to earthlings, and unlike any of the colors we're used to. Much wider view of the electromagnetic spectrum.

It could have a negative adaptive value. In sports bars, they'd keep trying to adjust the television picture, and thereby encounter hostile behavior from trichromats.
