I think this abbreviated gospel is what has fueled the onslaught of the Freegrace movement in the church. Everyone who hears the gospel should be told the costs of discipleship:

27 ...whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

28“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’ - Luke 14:27-30

Instead, we have a church full of people who want to be saved but who do not want to be changed. They are told they do not have to change or else that would be a 'works' gospel.

Are we seeking salvation for the sake of salvation? Or are we seeking salvation in order to become a disciple of Christ? It won't take long to find out.

"13Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away." - Luke 8:13

I heard one Preacher say this—“ You Don’t have to Change to come to this Church, but WATCH OUT! If you start practicing Faith, God just might Change You......”
That was my experience.....God gave me a New Heart ....all I ever did was ask to be Forgiven and Saved.....HE did the rest....That is why when I stand before Him on Judgement Day, HE will get ALL the credit and BB will get NONE......Just the way God wants it......NOTHING But The BLOOD.....

I'm confident that there are some who come into the church with less than the best reasons for seeking Christ, and their reason for coming to Christ gets changed into a better one along the way. But I'm of the opinion that probably does not happen very often. Instead that kind of 'convert' falls away altogether. And worst of all, they continue to hang around in the church.

This is the First Step in becoming a Christian....
It was said that “Lydia, the seller of purple” had her Heart opened by God and was then able to believe the Gospel.Jesus told Peter that the reason that He believed that Jesus was who He said He was , was because the Holy Spirit revealed it to him.
The initiative for Salvation begins with God— not us. Only the Holy Spirit can give us “ ears to hear” and “ eyes to see”.....
A preacher preaches the Gospel Of 1Cor15:1-4.....Everybody hears it —- some Believe it and are Saved..... To others, it is offensive and foolish ( “ The Gospel is Foolishness to those that Perish” )
“ All have Sinned”......Nobody seeks after God.....There is none good- no not one! That is God's verdict concerning the entire Human Race......Not until the Holy Spirit reveals to you that you are the wretch that God says you are, and you MUST have a Savior.....you are living in a “ Fools Paradise”. Lydia and Peter lived in this Fool’s Paradise until the Holy Spirit opened their eyes and opened their hearts to receive the Truth about who Jesus was in the case of Peter, and in Lydia’s case, she heard the Gospel and believed it—- the same thing everybody else must do to get Saved .....
The first part of the Saving Gospel says that “ Jesus died for your sins.” It is the Holy Spirit that opens your hard heart ( like Lydia ) and makes you Contrite.The Contrite Heart— made that way by a visit from the Holy Spirit— puts you in the same mind-frame as the Repentant Publican......” Lord , have mercy on me, a Sinner”. Only the Contrite Heart is ready to hear and Believe the Gospel That Saves......Anybody that lacks that “ Contrite Heart”will never appear in Heaven— Count on it.
I say all of this to make the case that all of us get saved in the same manner—The Holy Spirit “ Draws” men by convicting them of Sin.....the Heart is made Contrite .....that type of “ heart “ is now ready to receive the Gospel That can save them if one has the Faith to Rest in it.....if you don't Rest in the Gospel, you don’t “ believe” the Gospel......God will declare you Guilty Of “ Disobedience and UNBELIEF!” Do you realize how SERIOUS that Warning is? It’s NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD for your Salvation—- Pray To God that you are never on the opposing side of that Truth......God Bless...

Its simple to understand but harder to practice. Its not just about turning to God but total dependence in him and self sacrifice for him.

There is nothing “ hard” about Receiving a Gift.....that’s all there “ is” to getting Saved.....all that other stuff is Sanctification ...God using His Spirit to change an already Saved person into the Image Of His Son.....
