You may be interested in this book: "CONCISE THEOLOGY - A Guide to historic Christian beliefs" by JI Packer. I believe it is a wonderful resource to have.

I have put a lot of the material on my site.

Thanks Gary. Hey, I was looking over some old tipics and ran across your name a few times. I said to myself, "Self (lol), I wonder where Gary has been." Welcome back. :biggrin

Christians

Thanks Vicjr. I do spend most of my time doing Christian apologetics with Muslims and atheists... but I often read the posts here. I do like to post using HTML and find that harder here. Anyway, it is great to find and read some Christian material and see the deep faith of many. Keep up the good work!

God bless you!

Pretty much anything by J.I. Packer is worth reading.

It sounds like a good book. Too bad it's not all available online. (Guess I've been spoiled.)

Of course, if you are not reformed (and I am not), you may have some conflicts with some of his teachings, as Packer is a staunch Calvinist.

The theology book I like, which is very readable, is by Charles Ryrie - Basic Theology, FYI. It's not available online either. But I have a hardcopy of it - it's an excellent resource.

Thx for the resource.

Packer

Well 99.9% of Packer's book IS online at the site! Enjoy.

Packer is an Anglican minister. "James I. Packer is a professor of theology at Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia, and is a senior editor of Christianity Today. An ordained Anglican minister, he holds the D. Phil. from Oxford University. Dr. Packer’s many published works include the best selling Knowing God."

In the "Introcuction", Packer also says: ".... My frequent quoting of the Westminster Confession may raise some eyebrows, since I am an Anglican and not a Presbyterian. But since the Confession was intended to amplify the Thirty-none Articles, and most of its framers were Anglican clergy, and since it something of a masterpiece, “the ripest fruit of Reformation creed-making†as B.B. Warfield called it, I think I am entitled to value it as part of my Reformed Anglican heritage, and to use it as a major resource."...

Charles Ryrie

Gary: I agree his book is good. I have it as well.

Wayne Gruden

Probably one of the best Theology books I have is called "Bible Doctrine - Essential teachings of the Christian Faith" ... abridged by Jeff Purswell from the Wayne Gruden's best-selling "Systematic Theology".

Only 500+ pages, it is packed (excuse the pun), easy-to-read, practical and Biblical.

.

Gary,

Thx. That's very interesting about Packer. I'm surprised he'd stay in the Anglican church. I've read enough of his quotes to know that he supports the TULIP, whatever he calls himself, and he sure sounds reformed. :biggrin

He wrote an article on the Reformed Doctrine of Justification."

http://www.the-highway.com/Justification_Packer.html

He also wrote an article on "Freedom and Authority" in which he defend irrestistible grace. But hey... when asked which of the points of the TULIP I agree with, I have difficulty being very clear.

And Wayne Grudem's book on Systematic Theology - I've got to get! I've been telling myself that for awhile now. He also wrote a few books on gender-inclusive translating.

Thx,

FG
