Hi all

I have to convert some data from Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code to North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code. Normally the SIC code is 4 digit. But I have data 6 digit SIC code like 5122-02. Could some one help me where can I find NAICS code equivalent of 6 digit SIC code.

Thanks

SIC codes, as defined by the US government, only have 4 digits. So, there are two possibilities for your data:

1) Your 6 digit codes are actually NAICS codes. I've personally seen the NAICS codes mislabled as SIC codes because the computer system was pre-NAICS and the field name had never been changed.

2) The 6 digit codes are issued by a private company that modifies the official 4 digit codes. If this is the case, then the last two digits only specify a subcategory, and you should be able to get by with just mapping the first 4 digits to the corresponding NAICS code. The specifics of the subcategory numbers would vary according to which company issued the codes. Here's an example: http://www.activemedia-guide.com/whatispsic.htm

Hope that helps.

The site you mention is very helpful.

Is there any site where can I give 6 digit sic code and it converts to naics code?

Thanks
