Back then, they didn't know any better. Now they do. People today know that germs spread plague. Don't travel to plague zones, and bring that stuff back to your neighbors.
Yes, but people don't know that they are sick.
Between the pollution in China and the spring hay fever here in the states it's hard to know that you are sick. And that's been the problem.
I got severe allergies to pollen and mold spores. I've asked myself countless times whether its allergies or coronavirus.
And the yellow dust on my vehicles tells me what it is...as well as the heavy rains and cool temperatures.
If I was in China breathing their smog filled air I'd be having issues too.

Unless you suggest murder of the homeless ,cops aren't going to enforce it much.already seen it here.I won't report violations ,if a cop won't arrest a woman who moved her bowels in public why on earth would they arrest the homeless who don't bathe, congregate, and sleep .photos I can produce

Yes, but people don't know that they are sick.

People don't have to know they are sick. They only have to know how to stay away from New York, Italy, Spain, etc... Stay at home until the plague is resolved. People don't need to take a cruise, vacation in Europe, or attend a convention in New York during a plague. Why does the whole country have to lockdown just so a few people can take a cruise to plague zones?

No one is going to pay $200 for cheap sneakers
your already paying that for china made shoes... i disagree with parts
We don't want the toxic sludge here that manufacturers create. China's air is so polluted that often you can't see the other side of the street in the big cities.
we have technology that can eliminate most of this . i am not a tree hugger by any means .but there must me guidelines enforced by the federal government and the state , as per shoes/ sneakers. we have allowed china to flood the market ,this is the reason the trade war hurt so bad. we have been made intoxicated by chinese products . yes we all have to saves money where we can. all this is due to the flooding of chinese products. that took american jobs . bring american manufacturing jobs back to america .watch what happens . see many americans think they should make at least $20.00 a hour that is 800.00 gross pay out . it takes that to run a household but we can start out jobs at least for 10.00 a hour and build up the hourly wage from there. we have accepted what we have been told by corp america .

even where i live rural mo so far thank God we have not been hit hard . our county has 2 the next county has 3 . then you go to the bigger counties they have several .stay home and away from big crowds is a must and we must pray ( sometimes that feels like a defeat ) but its our only Hope

But also remember that a lot of the goods we purchase are made in Taiwan and not mainland China. Taiwan is rich and highly industrialized by comparison with mainland China. Taiwan is also "free market " and Christian by nature. Also Hong Kong is almost the same way.
These two places can just about buy mainland China.

Its mainland China's communism and secrecy and free speech limitations. The great wall is dwarfed by the information wall. Most residents have no idea what is going on in their own country much less the whole world.

Olive oil from Spain or Italy doesn't raise an eyebrow with most of us...nor French wines.
How about fancy dishware from England or beer steins from Germany ?
Tequila from Mexico?
Coffee from South America?
Chocolate from Africa via Belgium?
Gum Arabic is in most sodas...sole source is from the middle east
Flu vaccine was made in England but now is made in China
Tamiflu is made through volatile chemistry from German or Swiss (cant remember) star anise growers in China and processed in another country. (The plants have exploded several times)

Some of our favorite products come from elsewhere...ain't going to stop anytime soon.

yes i am well aware of where lots products come from. i am not a %100 uptodate on where each item is made. my whole point is all this can be turned around in due time.. we have the technology to do anything that other nations do . i work for briggs and stratton small engine division. we get lots of our component parts from china. imo for the most we can make most of those parts in the usa . the dept i work in cast iron flywheels . we glue a magnet and what they call a pole piece( type metal) on the flywheel and screw it down. the magnets comes from china. every thing else usa. i am not against foreign trade . i am against allowing countries to flood our markets .like the mississippi River does. when we get a overabundance of rain.. to be honest i suspect our Gov has a fingerin the pie...shocking i know.. honestly i am not anti corp but they are a machine out of control

what is even more sad i live in rural mo in ky there is a papermill plant that is owned by china go figure . how they can make it work and american cant..

As you can see my friend there are a lot of excuses people are making for continuing to import from China

They aren't thinking of the long run like you and I, about the benefits to everyone in the west. Probably cos they're too old to be alive to see the benefits
They're only focused on how much they will have to pay in the immediate term for their goods, "just give me my cheap sneakers" selfish really

excuses are like noses everyone has one.i see temporary job workers every day . sitting around standing waiting to see where they are placed. i have worked with temp workers for a year or better ..that waited to be hired only to be told they no longer are needed. put back on call in status .so see i dont accept excuses people are willing to work even atten dollars a hour. compared to my 14.10 i make as full time

We used to make all processing chips in a plant in Idaho.(micron technologies) But the cheap Chinese imports flooded the market. Plant is just about shut down.
We used to make the silicone needed for the chips and other electronics...again same story.

And still we gave China most favored nation status.
But with the current atmosphere...its over...been over since Trump took office in reality.

And some of that manufacturing will come back.
Other parts that destroy our own ecological environment won't though. Those will stay there.

That's what these baby boomers don't understand cos their generation had it made.

Temp work is all i've been able to get for the last 5 years. I'll land a contract for 6 months or something but then spend weeks trying to find another job. Meanwhile any savings goes in that time not working. It's a horrible cycle of uncertainty

Here is a reminder of how hard it is for the generation of today
It's never been so tough

Baby boomers had it all
They lived a good life with far less financial stress than today's generation
Now they are all old and rich with multiple properties and don't have much time left on earth

In Australia where the death toll is so low is it fair for this generation (who are already facing an impossible task of owning a home) to sacrifice their future even more for a generation that is rich and almost dead anyway???

It's very unfair. All that needs to be done is for the elderly to stay home, not everyone else

i understand that they make cheaper lawn mower engines not near the emission standards we use. . since starting with briggs there has been 3 plant shut down. murray ky the last one. which boosted us. the only reason poplar bluff plant survived . was the city cut them the better tax cut. yes both plants was held hostage by corp america . i hated to see murray shut down.they only had like 2 engine families . we have about 6 i think.change over is time consuming lost of labour . but then again i am only a H.S GRADUATE .. they have the big degrees and bigger pay checks== dumber decisions :confused

What I do to cope . . .

207,613. It has doubled in about a week. They don't have nearly enough tests available to find everyone who is infected, so this number is only a fraction of the true number.

March . what a month!
if I look back all those days ago to the first week. watching what was happening in Wuhan. Then the cruise ship docked in Japan. Thrn early reports in Italy.
just the level of escalation since that first week. from " oh thats just an overseas problem. cant affect Australia surely."
well it has hit Australia. whilst we only have 20 deaths , it is early days. Now the Govt. is risking bankruptcy by trying to hibernate the economy , save businesses and support employees.. The economic impact will be far greater than the number of deaths.
Coronavirus caused a huge economic earthquake. Life will never quite be the same. A first world country becomes a second world country?
