The thing that so many of us keep losing sight of is that all the closures and other actions taken have not been for the purpose of stopping the virus from spreading. It has always been about slowing the spread so that we don't overwhelm hospitals with patients. Over the past few months we have increased our hospitals' capacities to handle more patients, the virus has proven to not be as bad as first thought so that reduces the potential load on hospitals, and it is expected (not proven yet) that the virus, like many coronaviruses, will be able to be managed by herd immunity which can be accomplished in two ways - direct infection or vaccination. The latter being the preferred of course. Obviously the jury is still out on that part.

What I see as funny is how people make it sound like a surprise that case counts are on the rise. Well, no kidding! We came to a point where health care facilities are better prepared and also learned that the virus is not as bad as first thought so we began opening our economy in a controlled fashion. Of course the number of cases are climbing!

Compared to early on we have also ramped up our ability to do testing. Early on, the only people tested were those admitted to a hospital due to severe symptoms. Those with sever symptoms only amount to about 14% of the actual infections. Now we are testing more people besides those who have been admitted into the hospitals. Of course the number of known cases are on the incline!

What did we expect? Sheesh!
Great post and good point.

Since I live in Texas, I am of course concerned about this pandemic in my state.
It is a large state on the Mexican border [such a CA and AZ}, and as such, the stats will be highter than most smaller states.
With that said, here is an interesting article by a CNN reporter breaking down concerning Tx hospitals being overwhelmed, with no apparent end in sight for the forseeable future unless Texans hunker down and follow CDC guidelines concerning masks, social distancing and especially avoiding crowds [not likely to happen during the 4th of July weekend]....

CNN's Miguel Marquez has been reporting on the front lines of America's fight against the coronavirus since it began several long months ago. A fight, sad to say, it seems like we're both losing and not adapting to combat in the present or future.
After sharing his latest report from a Texas hospital struggling to provide care for the influx of patients, Marquez was overcome with emotion during a live hit on New Day.

John Berman gave voice to the fact that, though a reporter's job is far less stressful than those of the medical professionals right now, being near all that suffering and tension takes a real human toll. Worse, there has to be a profound sense of dread knowing that these stories will continue to be relevant and there will be ample opportunity to showcase the next overwhelmed city.

Latest story on hospitals having to transfer Covid patients to other hospitals.

Overwhelmed Houston hospitals transfer coronavirus patients to other cities as cases spike
New coronavirus infections in Texas are soaring to an all-time high, with over 8,000 new cases Wednesday. The surge of COVID-19 patients has Texas hospitals scrambling for beds and Houston hospitals are transferring patients to other hospitals for treatment. Janet Shamlian reports.

The state of Victoria has gone into lockdown again here. fortunately it is the only problem state re covid.
Since my state WA is almost restriction free, it feels like we are so lucky. It is not a time to gloat. To feel smug. Just pray we don't suffer again like Victoria is now. Our borders remains closed. I think it is good. Some tourist businesses disagree. As it is their livelihood.

Hello h s
Where is Victoria?

A major struggle for me is how we are choosing to enforce lock downs. To me it should be managed at lower levels such as city or county level and not statewide or country levels.

The reason I say this can be explained by looking at a state like North Dakota. In North Dakota there are a handful of larger cities with the largest being Fargo (~100,000) followed by Bismark (~60,000) followed by Grand Forks (~50,000) followed by Minot (~40,000). The rest of the population is quite spread out and thin. Viruses will spread easiest where people are more densely populated. So, why is it necessary to lock down the entire state when the most likely areas of concern will be these population dense areas?

Minnesota is similar. A full 2/3 of the total population in MN is contained within the 16 county Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. Aside from a handful of other larger cities like Duluth, St. Cloud, Moorhead, Brainerd, and maybe Bemidji our out-state population is spread out quite thin. Why is it necessary to lock down the entire state when the most likely area of concern would be those 16 counties?

I don't know. I am usually a complaining rebel but I let authorities be control freaks on this one.

That makes sense, but travel still needs to be dealt with. Someone who travels to the city can bring it back to his town. Someone who travels to Brazil can force his whole city to lockdown when he returns. All the sacrifices locals make can be made worthless by irresponsible travelers.

Some areas of the world had it in control, but then travelers brought it back.

Therein lies the hypocrisy. Whole states are locked down but not interstate travel.

I just wanted to add my two cents worth. Extroverts are having a hard time because they thrive on socialization. I am an introvert so staying home is no problem for me. Having said this, getting out of the house is problematic right now. This is why I appreciate this message board so much. It is like one big church gathering together without fear of catching the virus.

I haven't decided yet if God is transforming the world or if Satan is behind all this. But I do know that I am praying for those who do not have God to talk to during these trying times. His presence in our lives is a magnificent gift always but especially during a crisis such as this.

I believe God is using every situation.
To me the idea of Him working all things together for good isn’t about him manipulating a gazillion odd events to suit each of the millions of believers. It’s about the fact He can do what He intends in us, and equip each of us, and change each of us in and through all the crazy circumstances we might find ourselves in.
