God's Covenant Promises

With Noah to save him and his family, Genesis 6:18

With Noah and his descendants to never again destroy the world by flood. (Genesis 9:9-17)

With Abram to give him and his descendants the land we call Israel today and to destroy the inhabitants of that land because of their great sins (Genesis 15:18-21)

God's follow-up with Abram, changing his name to Abraham, and designating him the father of many nations and millions of descendants, and adding the covenant of circumcision, and promising him Isaac as a son and the inheritor of it (Genesis chapter 17). God made His with Abraham unconditional. (Genesis 22:12-18)

God's conditional one with the children of Israel, requiring their keeping God's law and circumcision, in return for physical blessings (Exodus 19-4). Further terms (conditions) of this covenant were expounded later (Leviticus chapters 25-27; Deuteronomy chapters 29- 31).

With the children of Israel concerning the Sabbath. (Exodus 31:14-18)

God's concerning the Ten Commandments and Holy Days designated by God. (Exodus 34:10 - 35)

God's concerning the bread in the Tabernacle, and later the Temple, to be eaten only by the priests, descendants of Aaron. (Leviticus 24:8,9)

God promised a new covenant. (Jeremiah 31:31-34)

God spoke of His unconditional covenant with King David of Israel and of His continuing, unconditional covenant with Jacob's descendants. (Jeremiah 33:19-36)

God spoke of "divorcing" Israel and Judah, thus ending the earlier covenant, and of establishing a new one with them. (Ezekiel 16:59-63)

The most important one is a new testament or a covenant of fulfillment in Jesus and established by Jesus upon His death on the cross. (Matthew 26:28; Mark 14:24; Luke 22:20; 2 Corinthians 3:6; Hebrews chapters 7 - 10). Paul described the memorial that we are to keep. (1Corinthians 11:23-30)

excellent post except for this part

if you read the scripture you quoted it says it is an everlasting covenant - everlasting can not be ended - it means it is eternal

that is the thing with all of God's covenants - they are eternal - everlasting - unending

i would also add that the covenant with noah is with everyone including israelites

another point is that the new covenant of Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Hebrews 8:8-12 was made with isrealites - non-isrealites were included by a grafting in - Ephesians 2:12-14 - Romans 11:16-17 - Romans 11:1 - Romans 11:11 - Romans 11:25-26 - Romans 11:1-36 - Matthew 15:24 - John 10:16

Hebrews 8:7-8 says the fault with the 1st covenant was not the covenant but the people

Hebrews 8:13 says the 1st covenant is close to vanishing away due to becoming obsolete

why is it close to vanishing away but not yet? - Romans 11:25-26 is the reason - all of israel must be saved first

as per Romans 11:1-36 some branches were broken off so that some gentiles could be grafted in - and the broken off natural branches can much more easily be grafted into the root than gentiles can

so when the time of the gentiles has ended all of israel will be saved and then the end times begin where Messiah comes for all of His sheep - the israelites and the grafted in gentiles

as long as it is the time of the gentiles the 1st covenant has not vanished

how can the eternal 1st covenant vanish if eternal means forever?

the new covenant contains all of the directives of the 1st as per the words that God's Torah/Law is written on our hearts and minds - meaning the 1st vanishes into the new - just like the old way of making bread that rises - people did not buy yeast like they do today - they saved a piece of fermented dough to put into the new batch of flour and salt - the 1st piece of fermented dough vanishes away into the new bowl of flour and salt - that is what is meant by the firstfuit ( 1st covenant) is holy so is the lump (new covenant that contains the articles of the 1st covenant)- Romans 11:16-18

the reason the new is better is because it also contains the Holy Spirit living in every believer - unlike the 1st covenant where the Holy Spirit lived in only a few like the kings and prophets and judges etc

Except for two things.
1, all covernants have conditins and the covenants with Israel required them to keep Gods law. Their breaking of their conditions would break the covenant.
It was God's grace and mercy that caused him to still care for the Israelites andto rescue them.

2. As the covenant giver/maker God can end a covenant and give a better one.
This he has done with Jesus.

breaking the covenant does not end the covenant - God can do anything He wants - but He said eternal and He means eternal

I agree with all of this. I went back into my notes and deleted the part about God divorcing Israel as it wasn't a new covenant, but God establishing or reiterating the covenant He made with Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3. I just read it wrong.

I have to disagree with you as God's covenants are everlasting.

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

To all those who think that all the laws have been fulfilled in Christ you are very wrong as below are the laws that are written upon our heart and can only be fulfilled when Christ returns and makes an end to sin by throwing it into the lake of fire with that of the beast and the false prophets. The only laws that Christ has fulfilled so far are that of the Temple and its sacrifices.

There are laws (commandments) of God that were especially written just for the Hebrews pertaining to the rituals of the Temple, sacrifices, festivals, Torah, Kohanim and Levites, the King and the Nazarite. Then there are the existing moral laws (commandments) for all of us to still follow as in prayers and blessings, love and brotherhood. The poor and unfortunate, treatment of the Gentiles, Marriage, divorce and family. Forbidden sexual relations, business practices, employees and servants. Vows, oaths, swearing, Court and Judicial procedures. Injuries and damages, property and property rights, criminal laws. Prophecy, idolatry and all its practices as the moral laws (commandments) keep us in line with the will of God.

He doesn't, but he does start a better one.

You said in post #8 "As the covenant maker God can end a covenant and he dis as he replaced it with a better one." Now when asked to give scripture you say He doesn't. This is why it is important to back up what you say with scripture as here you are contradicting yourself.

Just some thoughtful advice from this ole country girl :)
