Scripture Of The Day - Understanding Our Identity

Matthew 6:34 - "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

According to psychologists, human beings are driven by their base needs. In the sixth chapter of Matthew, Jesus challenges that thought pattern. He instructs us to live from the perspective of what exists that we cannot see, instead of being totally caught up in the details and needs of our daily lives.

Faith lives in the potential, not in the present. Jesus simply asks us to have faith -- to believe in God's goodness and care. In teaching His followers that food, drink, clothes, and shelter are not the most important things in life, Jesus directly contradicts the psychological theories of our world. He dares you to believe God and think the opposite -- God doesn't start with your wants, but with who you are. God wants you to know first who you are.
 
Scripture Of The Day - Investing Ourselves

Proverbs 4:23-27 - "Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that's where life starts...avoid careless banter, white lies, and gossip...ignore all sideshow distractions...look neither right nor left; leave evil in the dust."

Passion takes energy. Vision takes energy. Strategy takes energy. As you pursue God's purpose for your life you will need to invest yourself there, which means you don't have time for energy-draining attitudes, feelings, and emotions -- like being jealous, intimidated, or scared.

You have a calling in Christ. Enjoy your life. Keep your heart tuned to God and the things God has called you to do. Don't focus on others; you need that energy to walk your own path.
 
Scripture Of The Day - Building Up Your Faith Account

Matthew 6:33 - "See ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

Some people want to float through life without putting out the effort to build up their spiritual account. They want to enjoy the heavenly blessings, but they don't want to develop the faith it takes to bring those blessings down to earth!

Don't expect to get something from God without faith (Hebrews 11:6). Abraham had to act in faith to get Isaac. Moses had to act in faith to get the Israelites to the Promised Land. Joshua had to act in faith to get the walls of Jericho to come down.

Do you need more faith in your heart account? How much Word you put in your heart determines how much faith you're going to have available when you need it -- everything else can be taken care of if the account is full. That's what Jesus meant in Matthew 6:33.
 
Scripture Of The Day - The Power Of Our Words

John 14:30 - "I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me, (He has nothing in common with Me; there is nothing in Me that belongs to him, and he has no power over Me)."

Scripture teaches us that we must be satisfied with the consequences of our words (Proverbs 18:21), and if we are going to be, then we need to be very careful what we say! Our words have consequences, and we need to use them wisely. Jesus knew that He was approaching a very important time in His life and He was determined not to give Satan any power over Him through unwise words.

Prayer:

Father, help me be quiet when I am in danger of saying things that I will regret later on. Teach me to think before I speak!
 
Scripture Of The Day - Being Mindful of Christ's Obedience

2 Corinthians 10:5 - "Casting down arguments, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;"

Have you ever felt condemned because of the bad thoughts you have had? You may have felt that you had to confess every one of them and seek God's forgiveness. But that is not what God's Word exhorts us to do. God wants us to bring "every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ." Whose obedience are we to focus on? Christ's obedience and not our own obedience!

This means that when our thoughts condemn us, we are to focus our thoughts on Jesus' obedience at the cross. The devil can only make inroads into our minds when he gets us to focus our obedience instead of Christ's obedience. His strategy is to point us to our obedience or the lack of it to determine our standing before God.

But just as our position as sinners is not based on what we do, but what the first Adam did, in the same way, we are forever righteous today not because of what we do, but because of what Christ, the last Adam, did on the cross. (Romans 5:19)

Affirm the following when your thoughts seem to condemn you:
"My righteousness has nothing to do with my obedience. Jesus' obedience at the cross made me righteous."

Then go ahead and pray, knowing that you have access to God and His favor, and the He hears the prayer of the righteous. (Proverbs 15:29)

I avoid Church, but if you had one here in Honolulu, I would most certainly attend. God bless you brother.
 
Scripture Of The Day - Comprehending God's Grace

Matthew 6:34 - "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."

When the children of Israel were in the desert, God gave them fresh manna from heaven every morning. (Exodus 16:13-16). They did not have to worry about tomorrow because when tomorrow came, there was fresh manna again.

Today, God's manna is the grace He gives you every day. If you are worried about a situation tomorrow, know that there will be sufficient grace for that situation when it comes. God wants you to simply rest in His ability to heal, deliver, protect, and provide for you every day.

God wants you to live a stress-free life, free in Christ Jesus --- not one filled with worries about tomorrow's problems. When you see a problem looming in your tomorrow, don't be afraid or dismayed (2 Chronicles 32:7). Look to the Lord, and see His grace and salvation deliver you.

Those who follow Jesus should be so sober and sensitive that they would not speak against someone else, whether the words are true or not. If Jesus had told the disciples that Judas would one day betray Him, what would have been the result? Everyone would have been bitter against Judas. So He saved all His disciples from being bitter against Judas for three years. What love!

Either that or He limited Himself as to what He allowed Himself to know until the fullness of time came about for Him to know it. Still....immense Love for all of us.
 
Scripture Of The Day - Craving Enough To Sacrifice For

Mark 11:24 - "Therefore I say unto you, whatever things you desire, when you pray, believe that you will receive them, and you shall have them." Faith says, "I can't see it, but I believe it is there."

Faith never deals with what you have done, but with what you yet could do -- everything you could be is you now, waiting for you to make demands on it by faith in God.

In Mark 11:24, very often, the Church has misread the word desire. We have expected, perhaps, that the word desire means "what we are dreaming about." No. Desire is "craving enough to sacrifice for." Thus, whatever you desire when you pray, you shall have -- but only what you desire. Not what you pray for -- only what you desire when you pray.

Amen, Sometimes we may have the wrong desire, but I learned through having a better relationship with Him is better for me than asking a-miss.

James 4:2-3 2Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. 3Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

Scripture Of The Day - Utilizing The Holy Spirit

Galatians 4:6 - "Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, Father."

As the Holy Spirit was in Christ, so He is in us. Through the Spirit, Christ indwelling becomes an experiential reality, forming and manifesting in us the mind and disposition of Jesus. Furthermore, the Spirit of God equips us for God's service by revealing His purpose for our lives.

The Spirit will enable us to overcome the world and its entanglements, and bear witness to the possibilities of Christ's life in us. He will fill us with the love for God's people as we continually pray for it and receive it in our heart -- with love for those who dislike or ignore us; and with love for those who do not yet know Christ, so that we pray for them and are ready to help them.

We continually allow Him to fill our heart with the love of Christ and expect revelation of what the Spirit of God can do in and through us.
 
Scripture Of The Day - Achieving Holiness

Luke 11:42 - "But woe unto you, Pharisees! for you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over justice and the love of God: these ought you to have done, and not to leave the other undone."

When Jesus said, "and not to leave the other undone," it is clear that He is not arguing against doing what is right. God's word stresses holiness in our actions. The Pharisee's error was that they believed their actions could produce a right relationship with God.

You must be born again. If you are born again then holiness is a by-product and not the way to a relationship with God. Presenting holiness in any way other than as a result of salvation is denying Jesus as our Savior and places the burden of salvation on us.

Improper emphasis on achieving holiness or salvation through one's own actions can separate us from a relationship with God. We must trust Jesus completely.
 
Scripture Of The Word - Sword Of The Spirit

Genesis 15:5,6 - "He took him outside and said, 'Look up at the sky and count the stars--if indeed you can count them.' Then He said to him, 'So shall your offspring be.' Abram believed the LORD, and He credited it to him as righteousness."

Scriptural meditation simply means thinking about and reflecting on the Word of God. It means pondering a particular scripture and mentally applying it to your own circumstances again and again until that scripture permanently marks your consciousness.

That's what meditation is all about. Taking time to envision the promise of God until it becomes a reality inside you. It's tremendously powerful, and by focusing on the scriptural promise God has given you, you can put it to work in your life just as Abram put it to work in his.

Don't just read the Word -- affirm it and meditate on it today.
 
Scripture Of The Day - "Therefore, Go And Make Disciples"

Matthew 28:19,20 - "Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them..."

Virtue is always manifested through the blessings that you have passed on. Nothing will be of any importance to you except what you pass on the others.

God wants us to be so in the order of the Spirit that when He breaks upon us the alabaster box of ointments, which represents the anointing the He has for every child of His, we will be filled with holy incense for the sake of others.

In these days, God has for us a blessed inheritance, so that we should no longer be barren or unfruitful, but rather be filled with all fullness, increasing with all increasings, having the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that we are always like a great river that presses on into the lives of others.
 
Scripture Of The Day - Learning To Not Look Back

Philippians 3:12-14 "... I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me...one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead...I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."

Ignore the tendency to glamorize what you left behind. Not yet arriving at your destination can cause you to sweeten even an unhappy past and prompt you to doubt where you are headed.

Where you were does not indicate where you are going. Keep moving because you can't walk forward while looking back -- Destiny awaits -- you need all of your energy to answer the upward call of God in Christ.
 
Scripture Of The Day - Step Out And Take It

Joshua 1:3 - "Every place upon which the sole of your foot shall tread, that have I given to you, as I promised Moses."

God told Joshua that the land was his, but he needed to step out and take it.

God has provided everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). He has promised, but we need to take action as the Holy Spirit leads us. We must add our diligence to the promises and exercise our faith (2 Peter 1:5).

If you are expecting the promises of God to manifest in your life while you do absolutely nothing, you are mistaken. Pray and release your faith to see God's promises come to pass, and then do anything God shows you that you need to do.
 
Scripture Of The Day - Fulfilling Our Calling In Christ

Ephesians 4:1 - "As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received."

Scripture says you have treasures in your earthen vessel. Jesus came to bring you abundant life. Through the strength of Christ you can do anything you think or imagine -- and even more. But not every believer will look for the things God planted within them to be used for His glory. Not everyone will choose to fulfill God's purpose for their life.

Separate yourself from the heard and seek God's calling on your life. God is waiting to do much more through you than you can think or imagine.
 
Scripture Of The Day - See Your Miracle

Mark 11:24 - "therefore, I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them."

The last time you prayed for someone what did you see inside you? When you prayed for someone's healing did you see that person in a coffin? When you prayed for a financial breakthrough, did you see the banks pursuing you till you were bankrupt?

You don't get what you pray for -- you get what you believe you receive when you pray. Jesus said, "whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them." So when you pray, what do you really believe and see on the inside? If you can't see it -- then don't pray yet.

Change your vision on the inside first. When you can see it and believe it, then pray in faith, and you will have whatever you ask for!
